OUT OF CHARACTER INFORMATION
PRODUCTION INFORMATION
  • Manufacturer: Helix Solutions
  • Affiliation: Helix Solutions
  • Market Status: Closed-Market
  • Model: JKJ Somnium Bio-Droid
  • Modularity: No
  • Production: Semi-Unique
  • Material: Durasteel, Impervium, Phrik, Life-support components, Stun tentacle components, droid components, weapon components
TECHNICAL INFORMATION
SPECIAL FEATURES
  • Operated by dual-system droid brain and harvested force-sensitive organic brain.
  • Capable of utilizing a limited number of force powers.
  • Specialized for non-lethal capture of POIs.
STRENGTHS
  • Use the Force: The JKJ is the result of a delicate fusion between the removed central nervous system of a force-sensitive organic, and a controlling droid overmind. As such, it is capable of limited use of the Force when directed to do so by said overmind.
  • Spider's Web: The JKJ is designed to infiltrate and extract, armed with a number of non-lethal tools for capturing persons of interest, and methods to make itself scarce should it be discovered. When cornered, it is more than capable of brute lethal force if need be, capable of shrugging off most forms of damage and retaliating in kind.
WEAKNESSES
  • Of Two Minds: Should the droid overmind be damaged, there will be nothing to keep the organic mind constrained, and the maddened brain will rampage about, attacking friend and foe alike until it is put out of its misery.
  • Uncommon: Obviously, there are not exactly a great surplus of Force-sensitive minds around, and it is even rarer when Helix Solutions can capture one intact. As such, these machines are seldom seen, and typically restrained to high-risk or especially complex missions.
DESCRIPTION

One of the most complex and advanced droids Helix Solutions has ever created, the Somnium was Helix's first foray into the realm of biotechnology. Designed in response to an increasing need for non-lethal solutions as its clients handed over more and more complex missions, the Somnium filled the role with ease.

A monstrous arachnoid thing with a burnished brass and gold body, it stands two meters tall and twice that wide, while weighing enough to effortlessly bowl over and restrain most forms of humanoid life. This is, in fact, its primary purpose: capture and retrieve. It is aided in this task by bundles of stun tentacles that are capable of fine manipulation and restraint, as well as snapping bone or crushing victims to a pulp. Additionally, it carries rare paddle beam technology as well as a bubble wort projector should direct physical restraint fail. Despite this panoply, these are still only secondary tools to its primary danger.

Despite its size, it is sprightly and agile, and capable of moving silently when it needs to. It is also fully capable of moving on sheer walls, or even upside-down on ceilings to help avoid detection. Additionally, it can fold its body and squeeze into surprisingly small spaces when required.

The bio-droid's true nature only becomes apparent when it is in action: like the smaller JK-13 it is based on, it is capable of using the Force to limited capacity. This seeming contradiction is made possible through a science as appallingly inhumane as it is complex. Using techniques adapted from the brain removal surgeries of the B'omarr Order, the brain and spinal column of captured Force-sensitives are removed, and spliced with a controlling droid overmind. This hybrid consciousness controls the droid, allowing it a degree of precognitive ability, which it typically uses to avoid being seen or evade enemy shots or strikes.

Some of these droids are capable of more advanced usage, such as limited telekinesis (though usually not enough to do more than open a door or lift small objects). Their exact capabilities vary depending on the Force capabilities of their original organic components.

Under normal circumstances, the organic mind is kept in a state of dreamy, agreeable half-sedation, with its mood carefully managed by cocktails of sedatives and mood-stabilizers. This renders it totally obedient to the desires of the droid overmind wired into it, allowing the overmind to wield the Force by proxy.

Unfortunately, as most of the accompanying flesh (and thus life-force) of its body is stripped away, much of the original force user's potential is lost. While powerful, they tend to be incapable of any techniques more complex than the basics.

The droid's primary limitation lies in the delicacy of its cyborg brain. Should the controlling droid mind be damaged or destroyed, it will be unable to restrain the force-sensitive brain, which will shortly thereafter be freed of its influence.

The resultant berserk, self-destructive frenzy will almost certainly see the death of the droid, as they have been known to hurl themselves off cliffs, into enemy fire, or onto explosives in an effort to self-terminate, as well as attack allies and enemies alike.

Thankfully for the galaxy, these nightmarish machines are quite rare, as Force-sensitives are notoriously difficult to capture.

Very interesting, but unfortunately this is not how the Force works. The brain is not enough to this. I can recommend two other option to this.
  • The first is you can put a shard into the droid, and there are Shards who can use the Force, and these are sentient creatures. Maybe this is the closest what you wanted to make.
  • The second is these are full droids and they can use Force through the Midi-chloroxian.
  • And because of the Force, these are more of a Semi-unique things than a Limited ones.
You should decide on this first, then if you have that, then we can move on.

Well, as far as a brain alone being able to use the Force, my belief is that Shadow Droids prove that they can, at least in Legends continuity.

Kind of an obscure source, but there's at least that one canon example that a brain controlling a droid body and being able to wield the Force has been done before.

I do agree that Limited is too high for something like this, I was imagining only having maybe 6-8 in existence (if that). Semi-Unique is fair. That's easily changed.

Thank you!
About it, the precognitive ability is ok, just like a very limited telekinesis, but the mind tricks are too much. The droids/cyborgs what you linked have only precognitive ability, so even the limited telekinesis is more what was in the Canon.
And yes, 6-8 is a Semi-Unique scale.
