Jedi Protectorate(OOC interest gauge)

Hey everyone! So I am proposing a new jedi sect. The Jedi Protectorate. I was thinking jedi in the protectorate could choose from two sub classes.

1. Jedi Temple guards: Role-They would run all security within the temple. They would stand guard when the council is in session, they could be assigned as body guards etc. My general idea for them is they would be the first to know of and respond to a breach in temple security.

Inspiration- I got the idea from the temple guards in the clone wars tv show. I would want the guards to have similar robes, because the style seems very fitting. As a guard you would carry your personal saber, but all guards would have a unique double blade saber given to them.

I was thinking of having ranks within the guard, for instance there would be someone who was in charge of all the other guards, in the temple on Coruscant, that person was Cin drallig.

2. Jedi Rangers: Role- Tasked with long range missions they are not often at the temple. They play roles as scouts, they guard important envoys, and I was thinking they might also have some rangers sent out with the purpose of finding new force sensitive people. I was thinking they could sometimes work alongside jedi shadows, but the Rangers are not nearly as secretive. They are highly skilled though, and have been trained to adapt to a situation, not just relying on the force, and their lightsaber.

Gear- I have not decided on the rangers full set of gear yet, but Suggestions are welcome. I really was thinking they might have some type of bow, but I didn't know if a laser bow had been made yet. I thought that would give them a Ranger feel, and give them something unique that other jedi don't often have.

Inspiration- This one I didn't get the idea from star wars. I do however think of the ranger corps from lord of the rings, carrying knives a bow, and often a sword. A jedi ranger would be away from the temple for long periods of time, so they would have outpost set up across the galaxy, and would have gear sets to help them survive.

Anyways. I wanted to see how many if any would be interested in these classes. I also want to hear your ideas. I wanted to get 3 classes, but really no good ideas for a 3rd, so if you wanted to propose one that you think would be a cool class that is fine. Thanks, and hope to get a good discussion going!

I think...I understand where you're trying to go, but I'm not sure I can picture it based out of what you've described. I understand the desire for diversity in plots and character backgrounds, but I'm not sure the above suggestions really add any "flavor".

For instance...a Jedi Temple Guard is just...a Jedi Knight that has elected to serve on the Security Force. There isn't really a whole lot of "extra" that goes into it outside of perhaps some training in security procedures/doctrine. Also if a Temple is attacked...every Jedi is probably going to respond anyways so...

Jedi Rangers sounds like Jedi Shadows and Investigators rolled into one. These entities already exist...so why make-up an entirely new discipline?

And lastly...none of the above required the creation of a new "Sect of Jedi". You're just describing functions which, logically, already exist. They may not have a fancy tag or a lot of publicity because nobody currently chooses to write their character in that manner. If you wish to do so with your character, I say go for it. Flesh out the specifics of one of these under-represented disciplines. However, I would recommend you do it within the confines of what already exists...even if only because there are already SO many perfectly good options that fit what you're looking for.

Hopefully that makes sense. I'm personally of the mind that less is more when it comes to all this crazy. Jedi are Jedi. You do what you feel is necessary when you feel it's necessary.

Bust 'em.

Ok I see what you are saying. With the guard I just thought it would be fun to have a temple guard class because in history there was an entire group who were tasked with the defense of the temple. If you look back at when Anakin and Barris Offee were fighting in the temple it was the guards job to stop it not just a passing jedi. They were the ones who escorted Barris to the supreme court. What you said is true it would be a jedi who wants to serve to protect the temple, but that is not uninteresting. If under attack by say the sith yes maybe some jedi who are not in the security force would fight, but some would be evacuating. The temple guard would be the ones helping to evacuate, and holding invaders back while evac happens. They would be in charge of operating defense systems. Ray shields, Temple security droids. Someone has to do the job, and I think it would be cool if instead of just saying there is temple security we have those who actually make it happen. So if the time comes when The new temple is faced with a sith attack or attack by any other force we can actually have legitimate defenses. I also thought they could be present when The council is in session as guards, opening up the possibility for a cool Rp where there is some sort of assassination attempt on the council members, and the guards work to find the security breach, who tried to kill them, etc.

As for Rangers. I talked With Kian Karr and he didn't say anything about them being too much like shadows. In fact the point of the Rangers was sort of the opposite. They aren't crazy secretive. They are a face for the jedi. They travel out to seek force users, they would get unique gear that I would create, because I have a custom jedi gear shop. They would be an elite force, but their primary objective isn't necessarily to go undercover like Shadows. I had even thought they might work with Shadows sometimes, but not exclusively. I had some cool ideas for their gear. I have already made wrist saber gauntlets, and I am working on the light Bow, and possibly some saber daggers, which aren't exactly WOW factor, but I was looking at making them balanced and throwable. The Jedi Rangers actually have history. They were created when the Jedi where still new and the name was spelled Je'daii. "A rank within the Je'daii Order, Rangers were members who had successfully trained on Tython and were thus eligible to undertake official missions on behalf of the Order. As representatives of the Je'daii Council, Rangers were the public face of the Order offworld and were stationed across the Settled Worlds to prevent conflicts and war.[1] " Any ways. I do appreciate your input, but I think the classes could have an interesting roll to play. It would be something new, not just the classic jedi guardian, Sentinel, and counselor classes.

I got ya, and I agree with the spirit of your comments. I'm just not sure how useful adding this in is to the roleplaying environment. Honestly - the "Rangers" would do very little different than Jedi Investigators which we already have.

Again if you still want to do the Guard idea, I say just do it. There isn't anything stopping someone from writing their Jedi as a Temple Guard. You may end up a bit under-tasked, but you can do it.

Got ya on the gear and whatever. I'm pretty straight forward and vanilla with my Jedi personally but some people are into all the super high-speed armor/weapons/planes/trains/automobiles/whateverelsetheycomeupwith.

I've put some thought into this and think perhaps rather than trying to create a separate sect of Jedi, if this has traction and others like the idea, Jedi Ranger simply gets added to the one of the other classes, perhaps under the category of Jedi Sentinel, which is where Jedi Shadow falls.

Ardeo, I would put some thought into how the Rangers can be different form the Jedi Investigators and Jedi Diplomats. For example, while the Jedi Investigator focuses on investigating criminal behavior and aiding law enforcement and the Jedi Diplomats focus on building peaceful relations with other places, perhaps the Rangers could be the explorers of the Jedi Order? Perhaps they can focus on exploring areas of the galaxy so far unexplored? Perhaps when new planets are created, they should be the first ones there to assess risk and investigate the people and culture?

Your interest in the Shadows and Rangers working together could tie into this, suppose one of the worlds you explore has a heavy darkside presence/cult/relic, this would certainly be something the Shadows would be interested in!

That sounds like a good idea :) I'll work everything out and then get back with you on everything I have for the rangers
