Jedi meet at journey's end...

"I'm telling you, he knows a lot more than he's saying." The guard standing in front of Kian smiled mischievously. He was an older human male, his hair salt and peppered and his face marked with age. "If you had just let my guys have a few minutes in there, we'd get him talking." A few of the security guards down the hall laughed at the comment and Kian sighed and shook his head.

"He will talk. And he'll do so without us hurting him." Kian said and then turned and leaned in so his face was much closer to the human's than he normally got, "And that is the last time you ever suggest harming a prisoner and stay serving on this vessel." The man's face paled.

"Of course sir." The man said and snapped to attention. Kian sent a look down the hall and saw that the other men had vanished. Reaching out, Kian opened the door and stepped into the small interrogation room. Sitting at the table in the small, dimly lit room, was a small frame Tarasin male. His skin was light green, with light purple coloring in accents across it. Kian was unsure if that was natural or tattoos.

Kian pulled out the chair and sat down across from him. "Hello." Kian said smiling beneath the mask. The Tarasin just stared at him and said nothing. "Your name is....Verm?" Kian said glancing down at the file on the desk. Again, the Tarasin said nothing, but nodded in ascent. Kian didn't need the force to tell him that Verm was scared. Kian could tell he could use the force to persuade him to talk....but he preferred not to.

"I understand you're scared," Kian said and leaned forward on the table, "But no one here will hurt you. What I can do, is take the information you give me and do some good for your people."

For a long moment Verm contemplated his hands on the table in front of him, and then he looked up and met Kian's gaze. "What do you want to know?" He said in an accented, reptilian voice. Beneath the anti-ox mask, Kian's smile broadened.

Several hours later Kian sat in the conference room of The Sha Koon. He had sent out a call to his fellow Jedi to meet at The Sha Koon to assist him in a hunt. He hoped there were takers. Kian had gone in alone on a lot of missions as a Shadow....but he was getting a bit old and this mission was a bit much for a single Jedi to take on. Their target was the planet Cularin....and a darkside cult.

Vun was slaving away in a quiet meditation chamber. It had only been weeks since he had renounced the dark side, with the aid of his current master, and adjustment to the Jedi life had been something of a struggle. After so many years of learning to embrace pain and anger, it was no easy feat to simply abandon them. He had been told that he should allow them to melt away, but Vun found himself forcefully suppressing them most of the time. Master Karr had told him that to focus on training his inner self; he was familiar enough in the art of handling a lightsaber. Moments of genuine harmony with the Force were rare, but after having experienced them, the Shistavanen was redoubling his efforts to attain those moments as often as he could.

Those precious moments had also convinced him that his master was telling the truth. Long and difficult as this path might be, it had the potential to set him free from the pain and trauma that had chased him since his childhood. He would never forget that. So when his master issued a call for Jedi helpers, Vun wasted no time in answering the request.

He boarded the Sha Koon and purposefully strode towards the conference room, where his master would be waiting. This was to be some sort of hunt; just the sort of thing a Shistavanen was suited for. But was Vun himself ready for such an undertaking? Now that he had committed himself to this mission, that question did not need an answer. He recalled an old Jedi adage: Do, or do not. There is no try. That was right. He was ready for this; he had to be. Determination and strengthened purpose marked his movements as he reached his destination.

Entering the conference room, Vun greeted his master with a deep, respectful bow.

Kian's eyes drifted up to see his padawan, Vun, entering the conference room. He took in the sight of the Jedi. Vun was hard on himself, Kian understood that given his past, but a mere glance at the younger Jedi through the force told Kian that he was already making progress. While Kian was sure it was an effort, the Shistavanen already carried himself with a calmness that seemed so alien and impossible only a few weeks ago. Kian was as certain as he could be that the young Jedi would succeed....especially with guidance.

"Greetings Vun," Kian said nodding his head. "Please take a seat, hopefully the others will be here soon and we can begin the briefing." Kian indicated the chair to his side with a wave of his taloned hand. Kian was hesitant at first to bring the younger man with him. Shistavanen were predatory and Kian feared that getting caught up in the hunt could make it hard for him to control the darker impulses that were likely still very present for him. But Kian also knew that he would be doing his padawan a great disservice if he did not put faith in him. So much of the life of a Jedi, especially in the early years of training, was struggling to feel confident in their abilities. Having a master that played to that lack of confidence was a recipe for failure. Kian would trust in his padawan, but remain vigilant.

"How are the meditation techniques coming?" Kian inquired. Kian had spoken to him about focusing, for a time, away from combat training and toward force techniques to aid in the calming of the storm within. Kian had faced off against Vun in combat - his skills were considerable. "Do you feel as conflicted as you did when we began your training? If not - you should be proud. It is a hard thing to turn away from the path you were on - it takes a great deal of internal strength."
