Jedi Guidance and Conversation

Location: The Prosperity
Valery at her core had always been a fighter — she was trained and prepared for the war in the Old Republic, and now her focus had shifted to bringing those same skills to the front as a member of the NJO. That was her primary task; to defend and stay true to the role as a peacekeeper. But to do so properly, a deep understanding of the Jedi and their philosophy had always been as important as her studies with the blade and the Force.
Through years of service, she eventually developed the experience to also carry over this knowledge to new generations of Jedi, much like she had once been instructed by those before her. And especially in these times of Galactic war, many Jedi find themselves in need of guidance or conversation, as they struggle each and every day. The consequences of war were a heavy burden to carry, and even a simple conversation could make a difference. But to other Jedi who might just be starting their path, very different struggles may obstruct them.
But regardless of rank, experience, or status — The Path of a Jedi is that of an eternal student, and in order to overcome an obstacle and grow, one must be honest with themselves and acknowledge that which they need help with.
So one question remains,
"How can I help you today?"

OOC Notes:
This thread is meant to remain an ongoing opportunity for any Jedi to come and ask for guidance about something they struggle with, or for those simply looking for conversation about something Jedi-related. I'd prefer to have one at a time, and the back-and-forth will generally happen within this thread.
Should the problem run deep to where a single conversation won't be enough, I also offer to take the guidance RP to a private thread where we can more elaborately set something up for your character and their particular situation!

Lossa softly stepped inside with her cheerful demeanor filtering through pheromones. Like a walking filter of calm but joyous attitude, she eventually stood before Valery with an infectious bubbly attitude if the woman allowed.

The question had been proposed proper as Lossa eyed the woman.

She knelt, settling her long hair beside her as the smile faded into a bland expression of confusion. A question that had burned for some time in her that lacked understanding on her part. Even proposed by her new master, the idea seemed foreign in some regards.

"What does it mean to fear?" She finally offered to the woman. An honest and unabashed question lofted forward from the mouth of babes. There was confusion on Lossa's face about the idea.

A turning of the proverbial gordian knot in her mind. The idea was perplexing in some measure. Fear she had been told was a natural response to the unknown in all measures. The thing that confused her perhaps a bit more nuanced than posed in her own question. Something she hoped to understand at some point through their discussion.

The young Padawan was greeted by Valery's usual warm smile, perhaps brightened by the cheerful nature of the girl who made it hard not to greet her in kind. As she stepped forward and asked her question, Valery tilted her head slightly. It was quite unexpected to see such a joyful person ask a question like that.
But perhaps all the more reason to take it seriously.
"Fear is a very natural part of existence — it's an unpleasant feeling or defense mechanism against a perceived threat that could do you harm or make you feel truly awful. It's a sign that something external can motivate you to take action, often in a negative way." she began while her eyes studied the girl.
"So to Fear means that there are things out there that you wish to separate yourself from for emotional reasons, or in self-preservation. And that's why Jedi talk about it so often because one instinctive way to handle fear is to lash out at whatever created it." she continued.
"Frightened people are capable of terrible things, yet it's also a crucial thing for most. Without any sense of fear, what would stop one from exposing themselves to threats they can't begin to control?"

Valery then paused and decided to return the conversation back to the Padawan who asked the question.
"What is it about Fear that you find yourself struggling with?"

The cheerful expression did not change through the explanation. Instead causing Lossa to blink a few times to show she was processing what was being said. Perhaps it was because she was young, or how she had come to understand fear that colored her opinion in such a way that she was struggling to understand.

"If we remove fear from ourselves without addressing it, we have no notion of that which makes us incapable." She murmured. "I understand fear as a fundamental idea, but I haven't experienced it yet. Perhaps not as you have anyway."

She didn't address the question posed to her just yet as she continued.

"If fear is a thing to conquer, to better respond instead of lashing out, does that not mean we should seek out opportunities to address our fears head on? Is this not a common practice?" Lossa posed a question back before addressing the one posed to her.

"I hear the word fear, and it does not stir an emotional response. Fear is the presentation of a problem that has not yet been addressed in your life. Or is a reoccurring problem as I understand it." Lossa struggled to phrase the idea she had, the only time her happy expression shifted into something of consternation.

Valery listened intently and offered a smile when the young girl asked a question in return first.
"If fear is a thing to conquer, to better respond instead of lashing out, does that not mean we should seek out opportunities to address our fears head on? Is this not a common practice?"
"It actually is very common, and part of the standard training Jedi go through. For a Jedi Padawan to become a Jedi Knight, they must directly confront and overcome their fears." Valery replied — she was all too familiar with the Trial of Courage but even outside the Knighthood Trials, Jedi were often confronted with their fears out in the field.
"In some cases, it even happens very often. I've known Jedi who had an extreme fear of heights, or a really common animal scared them a great deal. They might constantly have to address their fears head-on. Sometimes they don't go away either, but they do learn to live with them."
"All that's important is that your fears don't get in the way of what must be done — we can't allow someone stuck on a mountain to lose their lives because we're too afraid to climb up there and help them if we're able to."
Valery then paused and listened to Lossa again, understanding that she hadn't quite experienced fear yet.
"You're right about what fear is, but the problem seems to be that you haven't encountered one yet? It's not entirely uncommon, as certain types of people are less prone to experiencing it. But not having feared something or someone now doesn't mean you can't in the future. Many fears are created through life experiences, and you still have to be aware of them and deal with them."
(Sorry post took a while. Almost forgot and was a bit meh with muse. All good now though!)
