JAIX KELBORN
divtexture.png
BACKGROUND

Before he bore the name Kelborn, he was Jaix Lij Skaesh, born beneath the crimson skies of Kalee.

The Kaleesh were a people who measured themselves not by wealth or status, but by courage. To them, there was little distinction between the hunter and the warrior. One learned to stalk dangerous beasts so that one day they might stand unflinching before an enemy on the battlefield. Every scar was a lesson, every trophy a memory and every victory another step toward glory. Even as a child, Jaix dreamed not of comfort, but of proving himself worthy beside the warriors of his people.

He would never have the chance.

When the New Imperial Order moved to liberate Kalee from Sith occupation, warriors from many Mandalorian clans joined the campaign. Among them was Clan Kelborn, renowned as hunters, pathfinders and trackers whose skills often proved as valuable as their blades.

The campaign was victorious.

For Jaix, it was catastrophic.

His family perished during the fighting, leaving the young Kaleesh alone amidst a world trying to rebuild itself. Yet grief never drove him into hiding. Despite his age, he refused to abandon the struggle. He carried ammunition to exhausted defenders, guided soldiers through wilderness only a Kaleesh child could navigate, warned patrols of approaching danger and helped lead frightened civilians to safety. The war had taken everything from him, but not his courage.

His determination drew the attention of the Kelborns.

The Mandalorians saw in the orphaned Kaleesh a spirit they respected - a child who had already learned that survival belonged to those who refused to surrender. Rather than leave him behind, they invoked one of Mandalore's oldest customs and took him as a Foundling, bringing him across the stars to the hidden world of Kestri.

There, Jaix began a second life.

The frozen forests of Kestri could not have been more different from Kalee's rugged wilderness, yet he embraced them as eagerly as he had his birthworld. Clan Kelborn raised him according to the Resol'nare, teaching him the language of Mando'a, the ways of the forge, the responsibilities of clan and kin and the discipline expected of every Mando'ad.

Yet for all they taught him, the Kelborns never tried to strip away the warrior that already existed.

Instead, they embraced it.

They saw that Jaix's Kaleesh heritage was not something to be forgotten, but something that could strengthen him. His instincts were sharpened rather than restrained. His courage was tempered with discipline. His ferocity was guided by purpose.

Among the Kelborns, hunting was more than tradition - it was a way of understanding the galaxy. They believed that patience defeated strength, that knowledge overcame brute force and that every worthy hunt revealed something about the hunter himself. Jaix absorbed those teachings completely.

He disappeared into Kestri's wilderness for days, sometimes weeks, testing himself against predators, the bitter cold and the unforgiving terrain. The forests became his home as much as any settlement. He learned to read broken branches as though they were words upon a page, to judge the age of tracks with a glance, and to listen for the smallest disturbance in the silence. His naturally acute Kaleesh hearing became one of his greatest gifts, allowing him to detect prey long before others realised anything was there.

His weapon of choice became the rifle.

To Jaix, the perfect shot was never simply marksmanship - it was the final reward for patience. Every successful hunt had already been won through careful observation, positioning and understanding his quarry.

Yet the rifle was never enough.

The Kaleesh believed a warrior earned glory by facing worthy opponents directly and Jaix carried that belief into his Mandalorian life. Across his back he always bore a hunting spear alongside his rifle, knowing that every hunt eventually reached the moment where predator and prey stood face to face. It was there, not from afar, that courage revealed itself.

As he matured, Jaix also embraced one of Clan Kelborn's oldest beliefs.

Like many among the clan, he came to revere Kad Ha'rangir, the Destroyer. To Jaix, the ancient deity represented neither cruelty nor conquest, but the eternal truth that struggle forged greatness. Worthless victories held no honour. True glory belonged only to those willing to overcome prey capable of fighting back.

When the time came to complete his Verd'goten, Jaix forged his beskar'gam beneath the guidance of Clan Kelborn's armourers.

The result surprised many.

While its construction followed Mandalorian tradition, its appearance openly embraced his Kaleesh heritage. His helmet took the form of the ceremonial bone-faced war masks worn by Kaleesh hunters, while trophies from worthy hunts gradually found their place upon his armour. To some Mandalorians, it was an unusual sight.

To Jaix, it was honesty.

He was neither solely Kaleesh nor solely Mandalorian.

He was both.

As the years passed, Jaix earned a reputation throughout Kestri as one of Clan Kelborn's most relentless hunters. He ranged far beyond settled lands, tracking dangerous predators, scouting wilderness few dared enter, and eliminating threats before they reached Mandalorian homes. His name became known among the clan not because he sought recognition, but because his quarry almost never escaped him.

Then Kestri bled.

The Third Vong War transformed the forests he loved into a nightmare. Mutated Yuuzhan Vong horrors emerged from beneath the surface, turning every hunt into a desperate fight for survival. Jaix found himself pursuing creatures unlike anything the galaxy had ever known through frozen forests, shattered settlements and mountains stained by war. Friends fell. Entire communities vanished. Every victory came at terrible cost.

When the war finally ended, the Enclave still stood.

But it would never truly recover.

As the years passed and the Mandalorian Enclave slowly declined beneath the weight of its losses, Zavar Kelborn Zavar Kelborn gathered what remained of Clan Kelborn, determined that neither the clan nor its traditions would disappear with the old order.

Jaix never considered leaving.

Clan Kelborn had given an orphaned Kaleesh everything he valued - family, purpose and a place to belong. His loyalty was never to politics or titles, but to the people who had raised him.

So when the surviving clans were called together beneath the banner of the Iron Covenant, Jaix answered without hesitation.

Among the Covenant, Jaix discovered warriors from many different clans who shared a belief that resonated with his own. Though they differed in custom and background, they all believed that the truest measure of a warrior lay in pursuing worthy prey rather than easy victories. They sought the Galaxy's most dangerous beasts, hunted enemy champions whose defeat inspired entire campaigns and viewed every deployment of the Mythos Fleet as another opportunity to test themselves.

Bound not by blood but by shared faith, these hunters gradually became known as Ha'rangir's Chosen.

They were never a formal military unit, nor an official order within the Covenant. They were simply warriors who recognised one another through the hunt itself. Some were beast-slayers. Others tracked enemy commanders through hostile worlds. Some sought legendary creatures whispered of only in stories. All believed that each worthy hunt was an offering to Kad Ha'rangir.

Among them, Jaix found kindred spirits.

Today he walks the stars wearing the beskar of Mandalorians beneath the face of a Kaleesh war-hunter. His loyalty belongs to his clan, his brothers and sisters of the Iron Covenant, and the Destroyer who watches over every worthy struggle.

He does not seek conquest.

He seeks the next trail.

The next challenge.

The next worthy prey.

For to Jaix, every hunt is a battle, every battle is a hunt, and only through worthy struggle can a warrior's name become legend.

PERSONALITY

Jaix is a man of few words, preferring to observe long before he speaks. Years spent stalking prey through dense forests and hostile battlefields have made patience second nature to him. He is calm, deliberate, and remarkably difficult to provoke, rarely allowing emotion to dictate his actions. To those who first meet him, he can seem cold or distant, but beneath the quiet exterior lies a warrior guided by an unwavering sense of purpose and loyalty.

Unlike Mandalorians who seek renown through grand victories or heroic charges, Jaix finds fulfillment in the hunt itself. He values discipline, preparation, and persistence above brute strength, believing that the prey decides the pace of the hunt only until the hunter truly understands it. Whether tracking a beast through a jungle or pursuing an enemy across war-torn worlds, he possesses a relentless focus that borders on obsessive. Once he has committed himself to a quarry, he rarely abandons the pursuit.

His Kaleesh heritage remains evident despite his Mandalorian upbringing. He trusts his instincts as much as logic, often relying on subtle sounds, fleeting movements, and intuition to read situations others overlook. He is deeply connected to the natural world, preferring wild frontiers over crowded cities, and is noticeably more at ease sleeping beneath the stars than inside a fortress.

Jaix's faith in Kad Ha'rangir, the Destroyer, shapes much of his worldview. He believes struggle is sacred, that every creature is ultimately tested by conflict, and that survival is earned rather than granted. To him, hunting is more than a profession or pastime - it is an act of reverence. A worthy opponent deserves respect, whether beast or warrior, and an easy kill brings little satisfaction. He despises wasteful slaughter, believing that death should always serve a purpose, either as sustenance, survival, or proof of one's strength.

Despite his intimidating presence, Jaix is not cruel. He respects courage wherever he finds it and has little patience for needless brutality or arrogance. Young warriors willing to learn often discover an unexpectedly patient mentor beneath his hardened exterior. He teaches through example rather than speeches, encouraging others to slow down, observe, and trust their senses before reaching for a weapon.

Among the Iron Covenant, Jaix is often regarded as something of a wilderness mystic - a hunter whose quiet devotion to the old ways borders on spiritual. He rarely seeks leadership or recognition, yet his experience naturally draws others to him when survival depends on tracking, reconnaissance, or navigating hostile terrain. He is happiest far from politics and ceremony, with a rifle slung across his back, a spear in hand, and fresh tracks disappearing into the wilderness before him.

To Jaix, civilisation is temporary.

The hunt is eternal.

STRENGTHS & WEAKNESSES

divtexture.png

STRENGTHS
+Master Tracker- Jaix is exceptionally difficult to lose once he begins pursuing a target. Combining Kaleesh instincts with Mandalorian fieldcraft, he can interpret footprints, disturbed vegetation, broken terrain, scent, and subtle environmental clues with remarkable precision. His keen hearing allows him to locate movement that others might miss, making ambushes against him significantly more difficult.
+Patient Hunter- Perhaps Jaix's greatest weapon is his patience. He is willing to spend hours - or even weeks - observing an opponent before striking. He excels at identifying routines, weaknesses, and opportunities, preferring one decisive engagement over several reckless ones.
+Expert Marksman- His primary weapon is the rifle, and he is an exceptionally disciplined shot. Jaix is comfortable engaging from extreme range, using terrain and concealment to control the battlefield before his opponent even realises they are being hunted.
+Stealthy Fieldcraft- Years spent hunting on Kestri have made Jaix an expert at camouflage, concealment, and silent movement. He knows how to disappear into natural terrain, establish concealed observation posts, and relocate without revealing his position.
+Versatile Combatant- Although known as a marksman, Jaix is far from helpless once the distance closes. His hunting spear allows him to fight aggressively at melee range while maintaining reach, and his Mandalorian training ensures he remains competent with pistols, knives, and unarmed combat.
+Hunter's Adaptability- No two hunts are ever identical. Jaix excels at adapting to unfamiliar environments, quickly learning how terrain, wildlife, weather, and enemy behavior can become assets rather than obstacles. He is difficult to surprise with unconventional tactics because he expects the unexpected.
+Iron Discipline- Jaix remains remarkably composed under pressure. Panic, intimidation, and psychological warfare have little effect on him, allowing him to think clearly even during prolonged engagements or when isolated from allies.

WEAKNESSES
-Deliberate Rather Than Fast- Jaix prefers preparation over improvisation. When forced into sudden, chaotic engagements without time to study his opponent, he loses many of the advantages that make him so dangerous.
-Not a Duelist - While capable in close combat, Jaix is not a dedicated melee specialist. Against elite swordsmen, lightsaber duelists, or Mandalorians who specialise in close-quarters combat, he is generally at a disadvantage if prevented from creating distance.
-Hunter's Tunnel Vision - Once Jaix commits to a particular quarry, he can become intensely focused on completing the hunt. Clever opponents may exploit this determination by creating distractions, false trails, or forcing him to choose between his objective and the wider battlefield.
-Reserved Nature - Jaix is not naturally charismatic. He rarely inspires through speeches or commanding presence, preferring actions over words. While respected by those who know him, he is unlikely to rally strangers or quickly coordinate large groups in the heat of battle.
-Predictable Philosophy - Jaix believes every hunt should be worthy. He dislikes overwhelming force when skill will suffice and often gives dangerous opponents opportunities to prove themselves. While this earns him respect, ruthless enemies may exploit his sense of honour.
-Limited Urban Experience - Although capable of operating in cities, Jaix is noticeably more comfortable in wilderness, jungles, mountains, and broken terrain. Dense urban environments filled with crowds, surveillance, and confined spaces diminish many of his preferred hunting techniques.
-Faith Before Convenience - His devotion to Kad Ha'rangir shapes many of his decisions. Jaix prefers difficult victories over effortless ones, believing struggle refines the warrior. This philosophy can sometimes lead him to reject expedient solutions in favor of what he considers a more honourable or meaningful hunt.
