- Structure Name: Jahnae Jedi Praxeum
- Classification: Temple
- Location: Bestine IV, adjacent to Jahnae Camp
- Affiliation: The High Republic, Jedi Order
- Accessibility: Medium: While the temple is fully submerged, only allowing access via submersible vehicle, it is fairly easily accessed beyond this fact. It sits in a shallow portion of the sea and is highly visible.
- Description: A collection of white dome-shaped structures built into a continental shelf, submerged entirely within the ocean of Bestine IV. It is a pristine structure dedicated to education and science through the Force, reflected in sterile hallways, uniform rooms and furniture, and the natural integration of technology with a natural environment. Despite the studious environment, many describe the Jahnae Jedi Praxeum to be 'cozy'.
- Hydroponics Wing: An entire portion of the temple's facilities are dedicated to Hydroponics, that is the growth of biological matter, typically flora, exclusively within water without soil. The three major sections of this facility are dedicated to three different types of biological products: Those used as foodstuffs, Kolto for medical use, and those used for environment reconstruction. This area of the temple is a full blown lab, with various office spaces, monitoring equipment, and large pools in which plant matter is stored.
- Hydro-Simulation Chamber: This room is made to replicate various underwater currents and is used to train initiates against the elements often associated with an Ocean planet like Bestine IV. The room has various obstacle course modes, in which Jedi can learn how to best traverse the sea below the waves when the water becomes turbulent. This chamber is roughly 300 by 100 feet in surface area and another 100 feet in depth. Plant life has been allowed to grow within the chamber. It can, in the advent of an emergency, be drained.
- Surge Pods: Small rooms scattered about the temple with small-scale hydroponics tanks, spaces where Jedi can practice Plant Surge, one of the specialties of the temple. These temples are most frequently used by young padawans and younglings, as they are best suited for the training of beginners.
- Floating Gardens: This space is a series of islands composed entirely of plant matter, which float atop an indoor pool and have been woven into uniform square shapes. There are four islands in total, each sporting a single tree that anchors the islands via their roots. The islands are color coded (green, blue, orange, and pink respectively) and are connected via simple bridges. This space is primarily for meditation and is the most natural appearing space within the temple.
- Sparring Halls: Rooms dedicated to dueling. They are rectangular spaces, typically built out like an arena with seating along the edges. In the center is a long platform surrounded by a moat, filled with aquatic plant matter. This is to allow for the use of Plant Surge and Water Shaping in combat, the two specialties of the temple. They are best suited for two combatants.
- Standard Facilities: Halls of Healing, dormitories, mess hall, classrooms, lightsaber workshop, starship simulator, hangar.
SECURITY
High: Due to the insulating nature of the ocean and the presence of Jedi, the Jahnae Jedi Praxeum is difficult to penetrate. A regiment of Temple Guards are stationed here as well to defend the facility. Ion Shield and Particle Shield generators, as well as an outer-shell composed of Impervium, help defend the temple from attacks.
HISTORICAL INFORMATION
The Jahnae Jedi Praxeum is only fifty years old, fairly young when compared to most Jedi Temples. The Praxeum takes it's name from the nearby Jahnae Camp, a settlement in which the Jedi who ultimately organized the temple were born within. The temple was made to serve as an institution dedicated to biological science, as viewed through the lenses of a Jedi. The temple prioritizes the production of Kolto, foodstuffs, and plants that are useful in environmental reconstruction projects. Ever since first opening it's doors, the Praxeum has invited Jedi of a more scientific persuasion to assist in the development of biological goods to be produced for the purposes of community health and war relief.
In the modern day, Jahnae Jedi Praxeum sits within the territory of the High Republic, and thusly is associated with its Jedi Order. It serves as the prime location for those seeking to hone talents adjacent to healing and cultivation, as the temple teaches the tenants of living in tune with the environment to those who enter its halls. While the temple is specially suited for those of the Agri Corps and Medical Corps, it is not exclusively a service temple.
CULTURE
The culture of the Jahnae Jedi Praxeum is most akin to a university. Initiates are studious and regularly attend lectures, progress on the development of new Kolto strains regularly find themselves published on the holonet, and well-studied Masters are eager to engage with the intergalactic scientific community. Many joke that the Jedi of this temple are poor combatants due to their preference for science over other matters, but the spaces within the temple reserved for sparring are regularly filled. Generally, such is considered to be a myth. Influenced by their aquatic environment, the Jedi of this temple wear their robes over wet suits, always prepared to tread water when the situation demands it. Their robes are typically white and pristine, more like lab-coats than a monastic uniform. Armor is minimal on these robes, evocative of their less combat-oriented nature, but they do often sport hip armor lined with Duraplast. The flat-footed boots they wear double as water-fins. These boots combined with their science-first orientation has lead many to call them "Quacks" as an insult, though many of the Jedi who attend the Praxeum wear this name with pride. To many, the Jedi of the Praxeum are considered to be out-of-touch and flat. While overly concerned with the bigger inter-galactic picture, many seem to perceive them as ignorant of issues on a smaller scale, especially in regards to more rural communities. Perhaps this is true, but many suggest that the studious, professional nature of the satellite may also influence social misunderstanding.
The knighting of initiates is typically accompanied by a capstone project, a matter of much pride amongst the Jedi of the Jahnae Jedi Praxeum. This can be on any matter, from new developments in bio-science, a specialization of a Force technique, or a deep-dive into the history of order. Various tassels are awarded to graduating knights that show proficient understanding in a given study, which many choose to proudly display on the pommel of their lightsabers.
