SPECIAL FEATURES
- Weakens armored surfaces
- Ineffective against shielding
- Set Em' Up: The Drawbridge functions by momentarily disrupting the target's chemical structure. This can (very briefly) leave them more open to damage by energy or kinetic weaponry.
- Utility Tool: Aside from occasional use in warfare, the Drawbridge provides excellent utility to mining, shipbuilding, and other such activities.
- No Damage: The Drawbridge inflicts little to no actual damage of its own.
- Un-Energetic: The Drawbridge has no effect whatsoever on shielded targets.
A bizarre experimental machine, the Drawbridge is perhaps Helix's most complex and ill-understood project so far.
A variant to the "Silencer", the device operates by emitting blue-white meson-disrupting energy beams, capable of unbalancing an object's chemical composition. The result is a significant (though very short-lived) weakening of the object's resilience, allowing skilled workers to much more easily shape materials, demolish structures, or perform innumerable other useful functions.
Exactly how much the Drawbridge can "soften up" a material varies. Substances such as wood or duracrete can be rendered pliable with only brief exposure. Tougher materials, such as armored metals, will require many more shots to become brittle enough to breach.
More of a tool than a war machine, the Drawbridge does nonetheless have military applications. It is an excellent breaching tool, entrenchment device, and anti-vehicle utility, though only in a support capacity. In theory, it can render hard targets somewhat easier to bring down, though the short duration of this increased vulnerability makes this somewhat impractical.
The system lacks any ability to cause any lasting harm of its own, however. Organic victims describe the effect as potentially disorienting, and sometimes even mildly painful, but lasting harmful effects are unknown at this time. At worst, a living target might be too overwhelmed with nausea to move for a brief period.
Most commonly, Helix's pirate forces use this device as a means to break into hardened areas, such as bunkers, vaults, or starship hulls. In this capacity, it excels, as quick-thinking troops can capitalize on the target's momentary structural weakness to cause great harm with other weaponry.
