DESCRIPTION When it was found that the fusion plasma contained inside standard energy torpedoes is, in fact, highly ionized, it was a natural step to take to have the user select between ion and plasma modes, for use for disabling and destruction respectively. The Izumo was, in fact, an Umbaran-designed man-portable energy torpedo launcher, with the advantage of having a long range and minimal lead required to fire it at a moving target, thanks to its relativistic muzzle velocity. It even has three firepower modes, each with its own stopping power and firing rates, with maximum firepower having a blast radius of 15m, with the highest amounts of damage being dealt in the innermost 3m. The highest firepower mode is best used against hardened targets, such as tanks, while lightly-armored targets can still fall prey to the lower two firepower modes. Thanks to the Umbaran EM plasma design being incorporated here, the contact with an energy torpedo fired from it would be most unpleasant: not only the highly-ionized plasma would disrupt the lightsaber's containment field, it would also get the plasma out of the blade in the process. So, should a target survive a hit from an Izumo in plasma mode, it is also liable to suffer ionic damage due to the high ionic content of the fusion plasma.

However, extreme stopping power comes with its drawbacks: the man-portable energy torpedo launcher is heavy and bulky, and also its reload rate is very slow: it takes an entire post to reload the energy torpedo launcher after its magazine is exhausted. Also, the intense amount of heat produced when the weapon is in use makes it easier to detect on thermal and EM sensors and also slows down its firing rate, due to the need to cool down after firing. Finally, as with all things with explosive effects, the Izumo is indiscriminate and it can be a problem in small-scale operations.
