Kara was a bit taken aback by the Mandalorian in purple. She told him all her troubles, gave a slight apology for her outburst and tried to explain why she responded as such to begin with. And all the Mandalorian could muster was a two word sentence. 'Sure. Okay'. The people on this station truly frustrated her to no end.

But alas, an answer was an answer. His response was the kind that made her wonder if he had truly heard what she just said, but her gut feeling told her he'd get to enjoy dealing with the reason for her warnings later.

"Yes, I'm right behind you." she responded, a bit absent minded. "I doubt any of the crew members actually know what Morgan is doing, given how highly secured his lab is." The Kel Dorian wondered out loud. In fact, she doubted if any of the crew members knew what the others were actually doing. Everyone had different equipment, files and work hours.

Hiding the folder within her cloak, Kara followed behind Zephyr as he approached Inira and Kla'ak. His question was rather straightforward and out of nowhere, so she decided to step in. "I told him about the anthropomorphic single-cell organisms the scientists from Arkania supplied you with." The small talk she had with Inira on the first day was paying off beautifully. "After I explained what that meant, he started wondering what the overall research subjects of the facility were." She explained with a slight chuckle.

Isabeau's elbow to his side actually hurt surprisingly. Rubbing away at it, he frowned and glanced at her "Was just making sure. Relax your buns, hon." he retorted, honestly he didn't have to respond back he just wanted to use the rhyme. After explaining to everyone, Cas quickly slipped on his enviro-suit and kept his lightsaber firmly grasped. He had a very bad feeling about this.

As Dawil moved to open the blast doors, Cas activated his lightsaber and angled it in the direction of the blast door's panels, its cyan hue acting as an extra source of light for not only the engineer but for the party as well. Without the Force to to sense any threats nearby, Cas would have to rely on his own six senses for this one and so he remained quiet to allow himself and everyone else to focus. After Cas and everyone else informed Dawil they were ready, he opened the doors, his grip tightened around his hilt as it opened but let out a subtle sigh of relief when there was nothing behind it. Cas waited for the rest to enter first as he followed behind, keeping an eye on everything and everyone.

The Padawan held his lightsaber upward to provide light for everyone as they wandered through the pitch black halls of the station. Cas scanned his immediate area for any hints of a threat as well as listened out for any subtle noises in the distance. While it was... strange not to rely on the Force, he had previously spent seventeen years of his life without it so it was just a matter of adapting to old habits. "What the hell happened here?" he quietly thought out loud as they trekked further, it felt almost unnatural.

Turning his head to his left, Cas noticed an office - maybe that held some answers to what happened or at least gave a bit of light on the situation. "Anyone mind checking out this office with me real quick?" he asked through the suit's comms. Whomever agreed to accompany him, Cas would cautiously head toward the office's entrance first, before entering inside, he angled his lightsaber in the direction of the office to shed some light inside as well as listening for anything suspect. If the coast was clear, he would enter first but remain on high alert as he scanned the office for any form of info on what the hell was going on in this station.

She looked at the older man and how he turned on the suit's flashlights. "Can I?" she asked quietly, more for herself than anyone else. Reaching for one of the lights with her hand, she started screwing and wiggling it until it came loose "Neat" she mumbled before attaching it to the end of her rifle, giving her one light pointing where she looked and one light pointing where she aimed. After turning the lights on, she gave the others her go-ahead to open the door and nodded at Zenor to confirm that she was with him. Isabeau and the older man soon lead the party into the ship with careful steps. Once they were all in, she would keep her eyes fixed to the front but stop the party "Dawil, if you close the door now, will you easily be able to get it up again later?" Depending on his answer, she would tell him to close it if he said yes. If he said no, she would simply nod and continue moving.

Seeing the area they entered gave her an eerie feeling and a slight sense of creeping dread. They had received a distress signal not too long ago, but the plants were all dead. "Dawil?" she asked upon hearing Cas' question. She had no idea what had happened but wouldn't be too surprised if her favourite engineer had a theory. With her eyes set on the corridor, she noticed how Cas turned to the office. She never lowered her rifle and kept it pointed at the corridor. "Zenor, you should probably go in with him. With your experience you might find something useful." Letting out a sigh, she then spoke again "Barnet, Dawil, you should go too. The quicker we've searched the room, the quicker we can move on." she said. With her mind set, the Mandalorian would argue and insist until the others did as she suggested. She trusted both Zenor and Cas to keep Dawil safe. Barnet was a wildcard, for she had never seen him in action despite of all his boisterous tales.

Once they were all inside the office, Isabeau would slowly start advancing in the corridor, moving a little shorter distance than they could see when their flashlights were still up by the office doors. Her advance was slow as she moved with her back arched backwards and rifle held at her belly level pointing forwards whilst moving with a slight tilt to the left. It was a stance which would allow her to quickly turn in any direction or fire at something that appeared in front of her. The Mandalorian was careful, slowing down to scan every object and to peer around any corner and whatever new things she would see and hear as her flashlights got further and further ahead, she would report to her team via the helmet commlink, whispering despite not truly thinking that there was still someone on the ship who could hear her.

Both stopped, upon hearing the question, both researchers turned, only to be met with the Mandalorian by Zephyr and the Jedi quickly after Zephyr. The one-armed woman was the first to speak up, "fairly broad subjects" commented Inira a little taken back by the question, didn't the Mandalorians get the tour? Frankly, she couldn't remember.

"But, I'm currently working on Cytokines & Growth Factors in the cellular levels in humanoid bodies. It signalling molecules that bind to specific receptors on the surface of their target cells and induce signalling pathways, which then regulate an array of biological processes. Numerous diverse molecules are categorized into different families of cytokines and/or growth factors. With that said, Chemokines are a large superfamily of mostly small, secreted chemotactic cytokines that function in leukocyte trafficking, recruitment and activation. They also play a critical role in many normal and pathophysiological processes such as allergic responses, infectious and autoimmune diseases, angiogenesis, inflammation, tumour growth and metastasis, and hematopoietic development. " explained Inira, giving a short summary of what she was working with.

Looking to her colleague, Kla'ak had been working on his data-workpad while Inira explained her work. When the focus went to him and Irina didn't talk his ears off, he looked at both Zephyr and Kara. Fixing his glasses that had moved down a bit on the bridge of his nose, he thought for a second.

"Well, if you must know. My subject or multiple subjects I'm working on is that of RNA interference also called RNAi for short. Also on Post-Transcriptional Gene Silencing as it is a conserved biological response to double-stranded RNA that mediates resistance to both endogenous parasitic and exogenous pathogenic nucleic acids and regulates the expression of protein-coding genes. It's quite curious how the natural mechanism for sequence-specific gene silencing promises to revolutionize experimental biology and I think it may have important practical applications in functional genomics, therapeutic intervention, agriculture and other areas" explained Kla'ak, though not nearly as enthusiastic as Irina.

"You're welcome to tag along, but we're just going to continue our work," said Irina and waited to see if they agree or said no. Regardless, whether the Mandalorian and Jedi wanted to go with the two researchers, they would still head back after waiting a bit for an answer.

~~~~~~ Meanwhile back at the crew entering the derelict ship ~~~~~~
With Cas holding his lightsaber high above his head, the surroundings received a bright glow from the blade of Cas's sabre as they slowly moved inside. It was strange, but nothing seemed out of the ordinary in the open corridor right at the beginning by the blast door. While the door in the corridor for the office, was half knocked off its hinges, nothing out of the ordinary could be found in the office.
Zenor looked at Isabeau with a raised eyebrow, "we're not here to search a small office room, but the whole ship if can" told the security officer to Isabeau and didn't enter, but stood watch. Barnet, with the axe over his shoulder, stood with his free hand in his pocket and kept watch over Dawil, who just took a peek inside.
Upon entering the office room, it was a medium-sized room, filled with computers and machines that looked very much scanners to screen through suitcases and other like-minded objects. If Cas decided to get a more thorough search, he would find lots of desk, office chairs and mostly everyday objects one would find in an office-like building in an industry.
Not feeling particular in an adventurous spirit, only stayed by the door and waited for Cas and barnet to return from their searching through the office. One thing Cas along with Barnet quickly notices, was the fact that all the screens were shattered, but everything else was untouched. "Odd, very odd" commented Barnet, bowing a bit forward to get a closer look at the destroyed monitor screen.
Watching Isabeau slowly making her way down the corridor, Zenor popped his head inside of the office door, "let's move, I don't like this and there's nothing in there" he whispered with a stern tone and with the blaster at the ready, he stealthed his way after Isabeau. Dawil looked inside the office and then down the corridor at Isabeau and Zenor. Deciding to follow Zenor, Barnet soon exited the office and headed after the rest.
Upon meeting the end of the corridor, it split into two other corridors, one heading left and one heading right. If the group looked down both corridors, they would just see more hallways as far as the corridor went and from where they stood, it looked like those hallways split into more corridors. However, Zenor noticed something both alarming and oddly not. Placing a hand on Isabeau's shoulder in an attempt to get the woman's attention and would nod towards the floor right in front of them. Long wide blood lanes started where they stood and then continued down the right corridor, before disappearing into a room with a door ajar.
However, it was dried up blood and looked like it had been there quite some time. Kneeling down, Zenor examined the extensive dried up blood, "whoever was pulled back into the ship, tried to claw themselves free" commented the security officer and took various pieces of nails between his fingers to get a better look. "The hell happened here?" Asked Dawil, looking at the nails, seeing minor torn human flesh still attached to the nails, while others were broken into smaller pieces.
"So in short, the research on this station is geared towards cellular mutation and modification of eukaryotic cells." she summarized for Zephyr. "But now that I think of it... I don't recall Morgan ever mentioned what publication he's currently working on. He's always so secretive about it. Do you guys happen to know what it's about?" she'd ask rather innocently, half-expecting a 'no' as answer. But if somebody could give them information or a possible lead, it was going to be one of them. Besides, she wouldn't have much time before Morgan found out about the missing folder. She was going to have to hide it sooner or later.
There was no little doubt the crew were unaware of the research Morgan was performing given how secretive the set-up seemed, as Kara pointed out, but to be certain Zephyr wanted to check with some of the researchers. The conversation was quickly overtaken by Kara who was quick to create a fictitious reason for his sudden question which was then followed by a slew of scientific jargon which left him grateful no one could see his bewildered expression behind his helmet. Kara, however, seemed in her natural habitat as she summed up the explanation for the Mandalorian.
"Yeah... thanks." He replied with a hint of bitterness. "No, that's okay. I've got work to be getting on with." He half-lied to the researchers. Although he did have work to do, whether or not he was going to do it was a different matter. He was intrigued about the question Kara asked and looked at the two researchers expectantly for a response. It seemed the next step would be trying to catch Morgan in the act and to try to find out exactly what he was doing in the secret room. Once they were alone, Zephyr spoke to Kara in a hushed voice. "If we go to one of our rooms we can watch the camera." He told her.
"The small office is part of the whole ship. So technically..." Cas argued, firing back at Zenor's objections to Isabeau. Barnet accompanied the Padawan inside the office, after a brief but thorough search they came up with nothing of value but what was interesting was the fact everything else remained tidy and in place except the smashed computer screens. The Kiffar took a closer inspection, scanning over its contents, he really wished that he had been born with Psychometry at this particular moment.
When Zenor ordered him and Barnet to leave, Cas remained behind for a moment - wondering if he had missed anything at all, he even tried to call upon the Force and sense something... anything but... nothing. It was strange, he could sense the signature of each party member but everything else inside the facility was void.
Cas followed after Barnet, resuming his position of guarding the rear as he accompanied the group through the corridor. Reaching the end, it split off in two directions - perfect, and his instincts couldn't tell him which way was right or not. The Padawan moved up to the front with Zenor and Isabeau to see what the hold up was, only to feel nausea in his stomach at the sight of a dried blood trail and broken off nails on the floor.
He made a gagging sound when he watched the security officer pick up some of the nails off the ground, placing a fist over his mouth he argued "Don't pick that up, man. We don't know where it's been." he half-joked. Although... with how dead this facility was and the leftover blood trails as well as the apparent disappearance of the Force, one thing was clear. Whatever came here had already killed everyone on board. Turning to Isabeau, he leaned over and whispered "We should get out of here. We came here to aid any survivors, you think anyone here's still alive?" he asked rhetorically, glancing around the area "What do you think, o' great warrior?" he would ask with a hint of humor behind it.
To say that she was annoyed would be to put it lightly. Despite arguing and even insisting that Zenor stay with the group, the old guard refused and stayed out in the corridor with her. That's worse was that when they eventually moved out from the office, it was all disorganised. Cas did his job and kept an eye on their rear, but Zenor, Barnet end even Dawil the Engineer decided to walk out into the corridor on their own. She had been clear with them all about the best approach before and at this point, she was starting to loose faith in them. Mentally, the Mandalorian prepared to see them dead. If they could not stick to the plan in an uneventful situation such as this, her expectations would not be very high of their capacity if things actually got dangerous.
Naturally, the warrior noticed the trails of blood as soon as she saw them, approaching them was a conscious choice. Kneeling down, she looked at it from up close, observing the dried blood and the wicked nails. Shaking her head disapprovingly, she eyed Zenor from behind her visor as he picked up the nails while they could just have looked at them without holding them. Cas' words represented her thought very well as the man whom she was annoyed with acted in a nonsensical way.
While she had no real wish to leave, the Jedi made a good point in their objective being completed "Aye, I don't think anyone is still alive in here, seeing the dried blood and all." she said before taking a few steps back toward Dawil the Engineer. "My first guess would've been slavers, but I don't see why they'd use nails against people for anything. At any rate, it should be too late now." The girl went quiet for a bit, knowing that she actually would like to explore the ship further. Waiting for Zenor to make his mind known, she would eventually speak "Dawil, what do you say? Wanna go back to the base?" she asked, indicating that his opinion would bear much weight on her decision. "The Jetii is right, our main job here is done" she said, showing that she could take a step back and not only care for her lust of adventure if the situation called for it.
Both scientist looked at each other with perplexity when asked about Morgan and his publication of work. Both had a clear facial expression of confusion from Kara's question and they actually had to think for a second. "Did Morgan ever show any interest in cellular mutation and modification of eukaryotic cells or any of the other subjects they others are working on?" Asked Inira to Kla'ak who had his eyebrow raised. "You can't be serious, thinking Morgan would have any interest in science Inira. The closest I've seen that man to science is trying to cook his own meal" commented Kla'ak and without further notice, went back to his holo-workpad, "now, if you would all excuse me, I have work to do" stated the scientist and turned around on his heels and down the corridor.
Standing back with Kara and Zephyr, was Inira who smiled apologetically, "sorry, he's not much of a talker, but we really need to get back to work. With that, Zephyr and Kara have been left to their own devices again.
~~~~~~ Meanwhile back at the crew entering the derelict ship ~~~~~~

Zenor dropped the teeth, he held and followed the trail of blood to the door with his eyes. He agreed and the chance of any survivors on the ship was very low if any survivors at all. "I agree, no use to continue" agreed Zenor and rose again. Dawil looked just a little spooked by the dried up blood and a bit paler behind the spacesuit. "What do I say? This is freaking scary man and we should go back right now" comment Dawil with a rush in his voice, giving all the signs of one who doesn't want to stay one minute longer on his spooky dead ship.

However, the silent broke by a sudden blaster shoots, coming in the direction of the other tunnel and away from where the blood trailed. The blaster shots were followed up by a yelling voice followed by more blaster shots. Zenor immediately aimed his blaster at the direction of the clean corridor. "Oh krak, oh krak, oh krak!" cursed Dawil with wide eyes, at took a couple of steps back. Barnet held his axe at the ready but stepped back to protect the engineer.

Keeping his eyes locked at the corridor and the open door while holding his blaster firm, "Dawil and Barnet, get back to the ship. Now" ordered Zenor, not taking any chances. With a nod from Dawil, the engineer along with Barnet, quickly headed back to the ship without a second thought to waste. "Cas, get back to the ship with Dawil and Barnet, without your force, you're at a handicap. Mando, on my left", explained Zenor, showing a much more tactically army mindset, than before.

Time for talking was over, someone was in danger and Zenor was damn if he was going to let somebody die on his watch and with that, he moved tactically down the corridor. With the wall to his right, he held his weapon high and ready to fire if it came to that. Whether Cas listened or not, he was expected not to act professional and he seemed to act more silly than serious half the time.

Isabeau, on the other hand, was very much a welcome sight in this situation and he at least hoped, if not expected she would follow him. Whether both or just Isabeau followed Zenor down the corridor to a large open blast door, Zenor stopped by the side and peeked in.

Upon peeking inside, he looked down a long eerie corridor, littered with bodies in various degrees of horrible mutilation.
7b2771c509e7cdf233ee066632bf7295.jpg
All of them had ashen or black cracked skin from being burned alive, while bodies inside of the glass-pods to the left leaned out of the broken glass. However, all of the death, wasn't what caught his eyes when peeking, no it was the small child in a spacesuit, chased by an adult in a spacesuit of his own, who hobbled after the kid with a blaster rifle in his hands. The man seemed actively trying to shoot the kid, as he wobbly started to aim and fire.

Kara was completely at a loss now. The scientists, the people who had been living with the mysterious Morgan for months already, completely dismissed the possibility that Morgan could have an interest in cellular biology or science at all. Apart from a short "Ah, I see..." and a "Keep up the good work", Kara remained silent. There was much she had to take in consideration as of now. They were like sitting ducks to whatever deadly threat was out there, one that could be the end of them if the so called 'rescue' team made any mistakes. When this team would return, they couldn't still be solving mysteries and fighting among themselves. No, she had to figure out the enigma that was Morgan. And she had to do it now.

"Zephyr... I have a plan... I think. It's not exactly a good plan, but one that will result in answers." Her fingers clutched around the thick folder hidden underneath her cloak. "We've set up a security camera in his lab, so let's use it." She began, hoping that Zephyr would agree to her plan. "I suggest we go back and confront Morgan. I have his reports and files, and I have no doubt that he's looking for them right now. If anything happens, we'll have it on camera." Her plan could be dubbed 'The direct approach'. Although whether she would go in alone or not, depended fully on Zephyr.

The revelation that Morgan had no involvement in any of the science aboard the station was surprising and then immediately concerning as it confirmed that no one else had knowledge of his work on the station and such secrecy could never be good. Still, Zephyr wasn't too concerned as it seemed unlikely that Morgan wanted to harm any of the crew and was likely using illegal research for his own gain rather than malicious intent.

Still, the reasons behind his research and Kara's subsequent proposition intrigued him and with little else to do on the uneventful station but wallow in boredom then the Mandalorian had no reason not to agree. It wasn't as though Morgan was a threat to either of them so they had nothing to lose. "Ok. Let's do it." He agreed, hoping he would at least be able to impart some more information to Isabeau about what had been interesting her about Morgan. Maybe they would even get a reward for bringing down a criminal, though he was content enough just doing something for Isabeau.

He returned the way they had come and upon approach to the door to the secret lab, he called out "Morgan?" In case he was in the lab or nearby.
