Classification - Residential orbital habitat.
Location - In Lagrangian orbit above Hafnip.
Affiliation - Hafnip Federation.
Population - Approximately 7 million civilians.
Defenses - None.
Points of Interest -
Island Ease is the largest single habitat structure in the Hafnip Federation, and incorporates a number of notable cultural and economic locations. These are in addition to the normal infrastructure of a cylinder type space habitat, also included below.

A major feature of the Hafnip Federation's economy, the Island Ease Central Stock Exchange is the largest such exchange in the system. Located in the heart of the habitat's commercial district, millions of stocks and billions of credits are traded at the Exchange every day, representing thousands of publicly traded businesses. The Exchange is closely monitored and regulated by the Hafnip Federation government; insider trading, among other shady financial practices, is forbidden, and carries a hefty penalty.

The Island Ease Commercial District is the business hub of the habitat, as well as much of the rest of the Hafnip Federation, ultimately. Business of all kinds takes place there, from the sale of consumer goods to high finance and commodities trading; it is estimated that a 10th of all economic activity in the Federation takes place here, either directly or by proxy.

Regarded by many to be the cultural hub of the Hafnip Federation, the Island Ease Entertainment District is where the newest shows, art, toys, technology and other distractions are viewed and sold. The Entertainment District is particularly famous for its theaters and galleries, many of which are located along a central drag known as Kino Avenue. The Avenue is also famous for its large number of neon displays and other lighted signage.

Located at the ends of the habitat, Captown 1 is located at the "rear" of the colony, while Captown 2 is located at the "front". High-density residential areas, the two Captowns are the result of an effort to enlarge Island Ease immediately after the Miln-Imperial war, which was accomplished by adding additional length to the habitat's two end caps. The rear of the colony was the most significantly extended, with an additional population potential of around 1.5 million. The front, not as drastically lengthened, can support about 500,000.
Dark and crowded, these two areas are considered by many Miln as less than ideal places to live, but the residents have managed create stable and even thriving communities in the caps. The Captowns best resemble mid-level residential areas on Coruscant.

Aside from the relatively newer Captowns, the original residential areas on Island Ease are more traditional in design. Aside from a few notable urban concentrations, most of the Island's land area is landscaped to look like natural terrain, with homes and businesses arranged as villages and small towns, folded into the contours of the land and connected by sub-surface rapid transit connections.

Running nearly the length of the central habitat cylinder, the "windows" of Island Ease and other cylinder type habitats admit heat and light beamed into the colony by the large mirror vanes outside. Composed of sandwiched layers of reinforced glass and metal lattices several dozen meters thick, these transparent hull sections are strong enough to resist both the air pressure inside and hard vacuum outside, as well as absorb light impacts without breaking.
Besides providing the interior of the habitat with sunlight, these windows are popular recreational areas. In addition to providing breathtaking vistas of outer space, they are covered by a several meter deep layer of liquid water as an extra layer of radiation shielding, creating large "lakes". Assuming one does not mind looking down into starry blackness, these bodies of water are popular for swimming, boating and even fishing.
In addition to species released to control the growth of algae on the interior surface, the window section are also used for small-scale aquaculture, raising edible fish and crustaceans for consumption. On Island Ease in particular, the Hafnip Federation government has issued licenses to raise suuri in special floating enclosures; imported by Tynnan immigrants, these spike-shelled sea creatures have become a popular dish among the native Miln as well, often served boiled with a ramekin of melted margarine or other sauce for dipping.

Located at the "front" of the habitat, agricultural activity for the residents of the colony is carried out in a beaded ring of linked cylinders, each rotating individually. Crops and livestock (mainly edible insects in the case of the Miln) are grown and raised in each of these "cells", mostly for consumption by the habitat's population, but also for export. Non-food crops are also grown, including ingredients for organic plastics and other compounds.

As with all large space habitats built by the Miln, Island Ease incorporates comprehensive port facilities. Located at the "front" of the cylinder, the space docks are situated in a non-rotating zero gravity block, separated into a passenger terminal and cargo handling area. Passenger shuttles leave hourly, connecting to all major settlements.

- Description/History -

With its surface rendered more or less uninhabitable by Imperial bombardment centuries ago, and recovery efforts slow in coming, the vast majority of the native Miln species do not live on their historical home-world of Hafnip, but instead in the vast shoals of artificial habitats which occupy its Lagrange points.
Built using resources harvested from the system's asteroid belt, Miln space habitats exist in all shapes and sizes. The largest, however, are of the cylinder type, massive constructions which can exceed 20 kilometers in length, bigger than a Super Star Destroyer, and house populations in excess of 5 million beings. Lacking true artificial gravity, they spin in order to generate centrifugal force, simulating a "downward" pull on their inside walls. Light, heat and power are generated primarily by solar energy, directed by huge mirror vanes and beamed inside through large transparent hull sections.
Almost entirely self-sufficient, these habitats grow their own food, recycle their own water and atmosphere, and provide ample living space for their residents. Cylinder type habitats are typically paired up, connected to a counter-rotating twin in order to balance out undesirable gyroscopic effects, which would otherwise make it difficult to keep the habitat's mirrors properly angled toward the sun.
Though much more numerous beforehand, only three intact cylinders (one pair and one single habitat) survived the Miln-Imperial War, and no more have been constructed since due to the substantial resources required. Many ruined examples can still be found in war-era debris fields, though most are too badly damaged to ever realistically be repaired, and the dangerous nature of the surrounding debris makes even scrapping the wrecks a difficult prospect.

Located at the L3 Lagrange point, Island Ease is the largest and most densely populated single space habitat yet built by the Miln. Having survived the Miln-Imperial War, it had originally been a pair of cylinders, but one half had been severely damaged and was later cut loose. The remaining habitat was enlarged in order to house refugees in the immediate post-war era, receiving an additional 4 kilometers in length in the form of extended end caps, increasing the total length of the cylinder to 24 kilometers. These new areas, designed as high-density residential districts, increased the colony's population capacity by an additional 2 million to a total of 7 million.
Though widely regarded as crowded and poorly maintained compared to other Miln habitats, Island Ease quickly grew to prominence in the decades after the war, its large population boosting its commercial potential, cultural significance and political importance. Coming to be known as the "big city" of the surviving large habitats, it was seen as the beating heart of the Miln reconstruction effort, through which all business, all ideas and all people eventually flowed. Within a few short decades, the space around Island Ease became crowded with smaller "suburb" habitats.
In the present day, Island Ease is still considered one of the most important and dynamic settlements in Miln space.

Intent - This location is intended to be the commercial and cultural center of the Hafnip Federation, the NPC government of the Twenteska I system. It is also intended to provide an example of a Miln cylinder type space habitat.

As per usual, excellently thought out and brought to life. Very well done there.

The only issue is the size. This thing is massive on a scale that would make a Factory judge quietly crap themselves. Fortunately, I'm not a Factory judge. Since the station is unarmed and unshielded, we'll let the dimensions stand, but you'll need need a 10-15 post dev thread of your usual quality to go with the submission. Once you've got that knocked out, lemme know and we'll be able to move forward.
