Does the whole mustache need to be removed? Is the goal to mar the perfectly groomed appearance or total clean shaven upper lip?

Furthermore: is the priority delivery every fiber of the removed mustache, or if, say, a portion of it was burned away, would just a portion of the mustache be enough? Must it be intact enough to recreate the mustache from the remnants?
