Fortunately for Phillip, whilst he was not the strongest, nor the fastest, the one he did have for himself was resolve. He did not back down, so instead Phillip rushed forward to meet the strike. Instead of standing still and letting it come down at its full force against his own staff, he went to intercept it mid swing, smashing his own staff to halt the momentum.
And then, for a classic staff weapon move, Phillip went for Saphira's face as he went to shove his bo staff against her in an attempt of disorientation...He was going to feel bad about it afterwards...but he had already pulled his punches earlier. He needed to take this seriously otherwise neither of them would learn.
