Is it hot or is it just me?

Socorro

The black sand of Socorro's desert crunched under the weight of Rasu's boot. The heat of the planets single sun glared down, bringing with it scorching heat which was absorbed by both the dark sand and the Shi'ido's emerald green skin. Many a Force-user had walked upon the sands of Socorro over the centuries. A Jedi Academy of the Old Order had once stood on this planet, where Jedi were trained for combat during the New Sith Wars. Once this conflict had been concluded, the academy had been abandoned, seeing no more need for Jedi to be trained so vigorously if the Sith were said to be extinct. A millennium had passed before more Force users returned to the planet, in the form of Imperial Knights of the Fel Empire. This organisation built another Temple, this time dedicated to their own Order, where their own initiates could be trained and molded into the loyal soldiers of their Emperor. But with the return of the Sith and their newly formed Empire, the Imperial Knights became more of a legend, leaving another abandoned Temple to be taken by the black sand.

"Thank the stars! Finally some shade." Rasu exclaimed as she hurried under the giant shadow of the ruined Temple, escaping the deadly heat of the sand and sun. She waited for her fellow Jedi, Iella E`ron to join her before approaching the mountainous structure. The planet had only just been recently rediscovered by the Republic so the Jedi had sent a member of the Council, the newly appointed Master E`ron and Rasu herself to explore the remains of the world and the traces of their old Order. Rasu's white robe darkened slightly as she entered the shelter that the massive structure created, her green skin losing it's brightness as it left the light of the sun. A cold breeze whistled through the ruins, sending shivers through the Shi'ido as the warmth provided by the sun had now abandoned here. Her shivering quickly brought her hand down to her lightsaber, confusing the sensation to be her danger sense, she hoped her reaction hadn't caught the attention of the Jedi Master. Thugs and Looters were common on this world, as in the Outer-Rim it was often hard for galactic law to reach this far out into the galaxy. There was no form of law-enforcement on Socorro, so it became a breeding ground for gangsters and all sorts of nasty low-life's to take refuge from galactic justice. With the ruins of academy looming over the two Jedi, Rasu turned to face the human Jedi, asking, "So are we ready to go on in Master?"

Iella crouched as she gathered up a handful of the black grains of sand .. letting them filter through her fingers and return to the earth. "Socorro", she whispered, in Olys Corellisi, the old language of Corellia. Iella had wondered why her family had insisted she learn this old language, she very rarely gets to use it, but time will reveal that mystery. She stood up and walked toward the ruins, the large edifice looming and providing much wanted shade. The unforgiving sun burning her back, although protected from it's rays, Iella wanted for respite. Her boots sinking in the sandy surface as she walked, her white cloak billowed around her body but her cowl provided the needed respite. Her boots with each foot fall felt the heat of the desert, the black sand absorbing the heat, which was a slight blessing, instead of the radiating of the surface of white sand, however it proved more problematic.

Her head lifted as she heard Knight Rasu exclaim her want of shade and smiled. As she approached her, she out a second bladder of water .. "Take this you will need it", she offered, as Iella already had her's slung over her shoulders. For a moment Iella looked up at the remains of the ruins. Battered by time and elements the ruins stood proud in the landscape as if attempting to defy the odds. She placed her hand on the surface of edifice and focused. As she pushed out with the force .. searching through her thin weaving threads she sensed the old presence of many pasted. The ruin still holding the traces of the Jedi, but she is not searching for that, her senses reached within and could detect nothing at present.

"Yes .. lets get out of this heat". she said as she moved toward an opening in the ruins.

Gratefully taking the spare metallic water flask that Iella offered to her, Rasu opened the lid and took a great gulp of the fresh, cool liquid. The water rushed over her mouth, washing away the sand that had found it's way into her throat. Relieved, the Shi'ido clipped the flask on her belt and began to follow the Jedi Master towards a large opening in the aged walls of the abandoned Temple. The desert's minions seemed to have taken over the ruins, black sand seemed to cover every section of temple's floor. Her boot's crunched as they crushed the black grains littering the entrance.

"It feels extremely cold in here Master E`ron, almost unnatural." Rasu turned to Iella, as she spoke, her skin sprouted goosebumps, as an artificial breeze flowed through the gaping hole in the wall, the cold air contrasting with the heat of the Shi'ido's green skin. The Jedi began to question where this cold air could be coming from, as it didn't make sense for the breeze to suddenly decrease in temperature while in the middle of a desert in the middle of the day. What secrets do these ruins hide? Rasu thought. The only way that they would discover the truth was if they continued further into the Temple. "The breeze seems to be coming from further in Master, should we check it out?" Iella was leading this mission, so Rasu wouldn't do anything without having her approval first.

Iella felt the cold breeze wash over her body, yet it did not give her peace or respite. She frowned as she did not sense this through the force, it might be something cloaked to them and unable to be grasped. Her cloak billowing with it and the chill ran down her spine. In her past life, Iella has been in many caves and ruins due to her job as a smuggler and treasure hunter of artifacts, selling them to the highest bidder, the danger money very impressive to her bank account, but warranted because of the dangerous nature of the business. On more then one occasion had she found herself in all kinds of trouble and that familiar feeling more returned.

However, these experiences taught her well coupled with the added missions into such places with the Jedi Order. They always.. always had defenses designed to disable or more .. kill any intruder. She almost smiled at the thought, she had to admit she loved the thrill of the hunt once again. But she pushed that aside, now she is Master and responsibilities now called duty. She pushed her cloak folds away and over her shoulder to aid movement if required. Her saber now leaped to her hand but she did not ignite it, not yet. She turned to Rasu now and nodded her agreement.

"It is unnatural, I agree. That maybe why I did not sense it, whatever it is. There is no breeze outside, not one breath of air stirs in the desert", she said quietly, however her mind going over her own comment as to why she had not sensed it, this should not be the case, natural or no. "Stay close and lets proceed, and be ready". She added. Iella . . moved forward and into the main room of the ruins, the light still giving them vision from the outside, but as they proceed, this will vanish too.

Following Iella's actions, Rasu too, took her own lightsaber but didn't activate the saber, instead keeping it at around hip height and began to follow the Jedi Master further into the ruins. The cool metal, calmed the Knight's slowly increasing nerves and helped center herself so that she could focus on what had to be done. The light that emanated from the opening in the ruins was having a hard time stretching this far into the building, leaving Rasu partially blind as she tried to make out where she was going. She looked across to Iella, to see if she too was having a hard time navigating through the rooms with only a small amount of light, however Rasu could hardly make out the human female so turned to face forwards do she could focus on where she was going. Her mind raced through the possible reasons for this continuous flow of unnatural wind, could it be that there were some sort of tomb looters in the ruins and this was in fact their way of fighting the desert heat, or perhaps this was some sort of defense mechanism designed by the builders of this temple long ago, a trap that was still functional? The heat that Rasu had gained from the desert was beginning to pass now, the breeze absorbing all that warmth leaving the Shi'ido surprisingly cold.

The seeds of panic began to sprout within the newly appointed Knight, her body temperature was dropping very quickly and the available light had all but vanished, leaving the two Jedi in complete darkness. Stopping where she was, Rasu quickly ignited her lightsaber, yellow light leaped out of the blade and flung itself onto the surrounding walls, floor and ceiling, illuminating their path. A wave of heat also passed over the Shi'ido as her blade emitted it's warmth to it's master. Relieved, Rasu turned to Iella, who she could see now more clearly thanks to the yellow glow of her ignited weapon, and was thankful that neither of them had been left behind in their brief moment of blindness.

"Now things get that much more tricky." she said out loud, her voice bouncing off the walls and ceilings of the old Temple in echoes, alerting those that might inhabit the structure of their presence. Rasu turned sheepishly to face the Master, her teeth gritting in a pained expression. "Sorry!" she said, this time much more softly so that her voice would not be carried through the vast corridors and rooms of the building. She would have to be much more careful from now on.

"Don't worry .. I get the feeling if there is someone here, they know of us already, hence the welcoming present", she said in a whisper, and indicted to the cold breeze. As they moved further the light grew dimmer. Iella however, used her gift of sight .. she pushed out with the force, sending out her threads to all parts of the ruins. She could see her way using the force .. every rock, debris and dust. The walls filled with old history spoke to her of many things, good and bad. But she still could not sense any signs of living beings, at least not yet.

"If this .. breeze is the first indications of the ruins holding defense then I must wonder at it, as this once was a Jedi facility, if it is Jedi made it should not harm us, however this place has a long history, and many have been through these walls, and some not so friendly, the ruins have told me that much", she informed. Iella sensed Rasu's unease which is understandable, Iella too was on edge, but she pushed those emotions away and focused on the task.

Rasu's sable light lit and revealed a large outer room of the ruins, the yellow blade giving a soft bleed of light that felt tranquil and warming. Iella's eyes roamed the walls, the structure still solid but showed the signs of aging and decay. There are strange marks etched on the stone, symbols not recognisable to her, script of a language foreign to her in scrolling text carved above the next doorway that leads beyond this room and further into the ruins.

She turns the Rasu now, and moved toward her, "As we proceed the light will vanish further, even our sabers will only provide limited vision", she thought for a moment, this was not really the time to train someone but in the circumstances it might aid her. "I want you to try something, concentrate your focus on the force, use it to see the ruins in your mind's eye, reach out with it to all parts of the room, let your threads, touch all part of the landscape until you see it, can sense all around you. This will only give you limited vision here and now, but it might help, and over time you can develop it and began to stretch is further. It is very handy to have as a skill, especially in these situations and on the field of combat. If you can see your environment then you will have a great advantage over everyone".

Iella moved toward the door way opposite to them and walked through. Before her a dark narrow corridor .. and as she reached out through the force she sensed the incline .. they would be walking underground.

Taking Iella's advice, Rasu deactivated her lightsaber, letting darkness surround them once more. Opening herself to the Force, she spread out her awareness in all directions, like tiny threads, making sure to touch everything around her. Nothing remained untouched by her, the walls, ceiling, and entrances all soon became clear to the Shi'ido, forming a small picture in her head. Rasu was quite impressed with herself, normally it would have taken a while for her to get the hang of such an ability but she had pulled through and now she had another trick that she could add to her repertoire.

With her enhanced sight, Rasu followed the Jedi Master through another entrance, still continuing to extend her mental threads, adding to the image of her surroundings. She too, began to notice the small incline in the ground, realising that they would be heading underneath the temple, Rasu began to slow her pace, not wanting to trip and tumble down the rest of the slope. The Knight's curiousity sparked again, wondering where this incline would take them. The cool breeze seemed to be getting stronger the further they travelled, meaning that sooner or later they would come across the source of the wind down in the...catacombs?

"Master, did the data on this Temple ever say anything about it containing catacombs? Because really, I don't know what else we could be walking into." she said softly, she was still cautious not to raise her voice too much so that it wouldn't echo throughout the ruins again.

"No", she said in a whisper, because something was here. "You know as much as me". Iella sensed something .. as her threads reached out to all parts of the ruins .. she had detected a presence. Not evil or good, just a sense of a presence. At the end of the corridor .. they entered an anti-chamber, vast and now deep under the surface of the desert. The breeze constant in it temperature but not of it's strength. Iella's cloak billowed around her back, as if she was standing on top of a cliff ledge. But the source of the breeze still remained a mystery.

Suddenly without warning Iella ignite her blade, the white light spilling around the anti-chamber. The walls engraved with odd markings she had never seen before, script of a language she could not read, but that is not her interest. The four figures standing toward the back of the chamber was.

From the out line of their body shape, they are women. Completely covered from head to feet in a cowled cloaks, the difference between them and Iella was their cloaks did not move with the breeze. Their faces .. what could be seen of them .. held a countenance of sadness, palpable to the point Iella could sense it and she had to block the emotion from her mind, using a technique through the force. Iella's mind raced as she stood there looking at them, they had not moved or acknowledge their presence as yet. She remembered reading a small piece of information on this planet. The legend of the Judges of the Dead. It was said that four women would stand in judgement and deliberate on allowing past soul admittance to the after life. But this was not the location of that legend. But this had to be them, a legend now standing before them.

"Why have you come before us?", they began to speak now in unison.

"Ready yourself Rasu", she whispered. "Ancient Ones ... we are explorers looking to acquire knowledge of these ruins. We do not come in harm".

"We shall be the judges of that", they replied as their heads lowered. Iella suspected they are communicating telepathically, sitting in judgement of them. She gave quickly glance to Rasu and nodded toward her blade. Opening a telepathic link to her ... "Rasu, have your blade ready but do not ignite it", she said. Iella left her blade ignited but moved it to a neutral position.
