SPECIAL FEATURES

- Long-range encrypted comms
- Satellite up-link capability (when deployed on planets with communications satellites or with friendly ships in the area)
- Air purification systems
- Sensor suite:
  • Thermal (infrared)
  • Life forms
  • Electromagnetic (however, it is blinded when the main gun is fired)
  • Ultraviolet
  • Ground-penetrating radar
- Environmentally-sealed interior
- Scanner jammer
- 3 Sabrina waste heat recovery devices

Strengths:
  • Main weapons long range: the standard concussion missiles and the heavy particle cannon both have a 5 km effective range
  • Heavy firepower capable of being used for a wide variety of battlefield purposes
  • Capable of defending itself against both airborne and ground-bound threats
Weaknesses:
  • Slow/ponderous: sacrifices have been made in the mobility area
  • Weak turret joint: one lucky shot at the turret joint and the turret is frozen
  • Tank becomes unstable in flight if flying altitudes are too high above ground (5 meters above ground or more at normal gravity)
  • Weak tank underside
Description: In the face of the Chiloon Rift campaign, the Tenth Dominion Sector Army came to the realization that the hitherto main battle tank used by the Dominion was outclassed by the main battle tanks used by the Primeval army in several respects, the main weakness being that they are unshielded, but also vulnerable to ground-attack aircraft. It was decided that the next generation of Dominion main battle tanks would be shielded, and address a number of shortcomings, with the main battle tanks used in the defense of Irnfall during the Chiloon Rift campaign now being used for one specific purpose: minesweeping. However, one weakness that is common to turreted vehicles that is still, unfortunately, remaining on that vehicle is the turret joint. One well-placed repeater shot or armor-piercing ammunition fired at the turret joint can disable it, rendering the vehicle much less effective. Nevertheless the main weapons, such as the heavy particle cannon and the concussion missiles, have an effective range of about five kilometers, meaning that it can blast other vehicles from that distance if it has a clear shot at it. The driver has the control over the concussion missiles as well as driving the vehicle; the two gunners control the main cannon (and with it, the turret) and the machineguns respectively.

Despite the flaws of its predecessor, the Irnfall still used a chassis mostly based on the Zamboni, with similar mobility flaws: once the tank flies at an altitude over a few meters above ground (the safe altitude depends on the gravity: in general, higher gravity allows for higher altitudes of stability due to the nature of repulsorlifts - at standard gravity, this is about five meters). Also, due to the Irnfall not being designed to float high above the ground, it has another flaw: Even accounting for the freed space arising from not having to house a rotating flail, the hull of the Zamboni had to be somewhat enlarged to be able to house deflector shields, missile ammunition, and even the enlarged reactor necessary to power the shields. Finally, while unable to provide boosts to weapons or shields, the waste heat recovery devices, one of which is mounted on the reactor, one on the main battery and one on the shield generator, allows the tank to power the sensor suite, the communications systems, as well as the life support systems.
