Xanesh learned about Darth Moirai through the Primyn Group, and that she can get as much information about the Netherworld as possible from the woman. Long ago, in her time, the Netherworld was nothing more than just the afterlife. She had never been there, none of the sisters, for they were trapped in the world of the living for nearly 5,000 years. Since their resurrections he has learned more and more about the present. Among other things, about what happened not so long ago about the Netherworld, and she was very interested in it.

This place opened up quite a few new perspectives that should have been studied, or experimented. She knew that AMCO AMCO , the first Archon of the Primyn Group, was also conducting research on Netherworld. But Xanesh actually had enough time to do her own research as well. That is why she contacted the woman, who was willing to host her. The Valkyries were currently on board the ship Serran, so Xanesh had to travel there.

She rarely felt excited just because of his "old age." But now she was excited, it all felt like when Ireria found her first artefacts at a first excavation she controlled. Or when Benûwia first created a sithspawn, or just relics with the help of the Force, as when they were very young. But it all happened very, very long ago. She also arrived on the ship on the appointed day, she "enchanted" calmness with ease as would be expected from a Sith Lord.

Immediately upon her arrival on the ship, she asked for guidance to find Darth Moirai, as soon as she received the necessary information, one of the ship's officers accompanied her to Vaylin. When they arrived Xanesh sent away the officer with a single hand gesture, and after that he went there alone to the zabrak. If the woman was busy just now, she waited patiently to finish her task.

”Darth Moirai, we are Darth Xanesh, we are grateful for you spare some time for us and this meeting!” she said. ”As we mentioned before, we would like to talk about the Netherworld.”

It wasn't very often that Vaylin got a request for a meeting, about the Netherworld of all things. Sure, she was part of a group that was dedicated to it, but it was more common to be fielding answers to her own students about the subject. But this time, a Sith Lord by the name of Darth Xanesh had reached out asking to meet. Vaylin knew little about the person, other than they were part of the Sith Empire too.

Knowing that, Vaylin was happy to relay information to them about when and where the Serran would be stopping next. Orbiting above a planet within Sith Space as the Valkyries went about their business planetside.

She had intended to pull up some information on the Sith, but had been too preoccupied with her Valkyrie duties. Namely reports, far too many reports...

Thus, when Xanesh finally arrived she was escorted through the Super Star Destroyer, and brought before the Valkyrie Elder's office. As the door slid open, Vaylin looked up curious who had decided to visit. For a moment she frowned until it clicked just who was standing before her. Vaylin smiled, placing her datapad down and standing up.

"The pleasure is all mine, Darth Xanesh," she held out a hand for the Sith to shake. Raising a slight eyebrow at the mention of 'we'. "Please, take a seat. Care for some tea or caf?" Vaylin stepped away from behind her desk, heading over to the nearby table where a couple machines were located. Even if her visitor wanted nothing, the Zabrak needed a little something.

Xanesh, of course, accepted and reciprocated the handshake, she pretended not to notice the raising of the eyebrows, when she referred to herself in the plural. She has been accustomed to this ever since she resurrected that most people react in this way, even the Emperor did similarly. However, she was amused by the situation, especially that her own disciple did not dare to ask her, only over time.

”Thank you!" she said at the offer.

She had already opened her mouth to offer tea or coffee, but eventually her voice trailed off and she just shook her head. The two sisters wanted to say two different drinks all at once. Ireria would have asked for tea while Benûwia would have asked for coffee. Sometimes life was difficult with previously two, but now there is only one merged soul. It took a few seconds to Xanesh to find an intermediate solution.

”The water will also be perfect, thank you!” she said gently.

While the Zabrak were at the table, she looked around the office. If the woman has returned with the water, she will gratefully take it over from her. She was sure of one thing, she didn't want to abuse Zabrak's hospitality. For she wanted to know as much information as possible, that’s why she didn’t run down with the question / request to “tell us everything” what she could. So she tried to put it mildly already as much as possible so as not to seem overly intrusive.

”When the Netherworld events happened... well we didn’t really play a role in the Galaxy again, we were still dead. So, unfortunately, we missed this very interesting scientific event - in every sense. But we would be interested in accurate and authentic information. We were informed that you are one of, if not the greatest experts at Netherworld. And that's why we visited you, Darth Moirai. We hope you will help us in this area of science, of course, for a fee, we don’t expect you to help us for free.” she said.

A request for water was not an option Vaylin thought she'd hear. but one that made her that more curious about the woman seated before her desk. The moment she had set foot in her office, the Zabrak felt like something was off about it. Not a bad thing per say, but as someone who had walked across the Netherworld a number of times, Vaylin had a sense for when something was wrong within the physical plane.

Not the first option.

Not the second option.

But the third option, a compromise between the two.

"Flattery will get you anywhere, dear. But I'd certainly not call myself the greatest expert in all things Netherworld. For years I was but an external hand of it, guiding destined spirits towards it across the galaxy's battlefields." As Vaylin spoke, she went about brewing some freshments. First was the water, simple enough to pour into a cup and placed in front of Xanesh. "I would argue that no one can truly become an expert of it, as the Nether is ever infinite. When you think you've learned it all, there's always another layer." Before the Valkyries, Vaylin held the same preconception of what the Netherworld was, a final resting place for the dead. Then after surviving her Trials, she had grown a greater understanding for it. Something that never stopped growing since.

With her tea now in hand, Vaylin returned to her desk. "Before we name a price, I'd like to know a bit more about you Darth Xanesh. Namely, I'd love to know just how old you are." The Zabrak took a sip of her tea. "Both of you."

”It’s not our habit to flatter Darth Moirai, the facts are stubborn and speak for themselves.” she said this a little colder now.

To feel that she really didn’t say it out of flattery, she didn’t matter if she took it upon herself or not. Xanesh went after this thing before contacting Vaylin, really didn’t find anything or anyone else, or if so, there was also a footnote that zabrak was a better choice. So the whole opportunity gave itself, and the woman did not even have to break herself to visit many. Straight to the best, she saved time and energy with it. It would have been a problem if Vaylin had not agreed to the visit. But this did not happen and she was here.

While the Zabrak spoke and brought the refreshment Xanesh watched her all the way. When she received the glass of water, she nodded gratefully, but she hadn't sipped in yet. She wanted to wait for Vaylin to take her place again, but in the meantime she had learned several important details. She always thought that the Netherworld could be the size of a galaxy or the entire universe.

”From such a point of view, no Sith or Jedi could ever call himself a Sith Lord or a Jedi Master, or a Force user to Force Master, for the Force also always explores newer and newer aspects and there has never been a person who knew all aspects.” she responded to the modesty.

Xanesh nodded at the question and smiled, now she too took a sip of the glass of water she had received before. Again this question has already begun to slowly get used to everyone asking her.

”We are four thousand five hundred and sixty years old. We were born in BBY 3700 and died in BBY 3620. We were twin sisters and our physical bodies were destroyed during a ritual. During the accident our souls were merged and Darth Xanesh was born, this year, in ABY 860, we finally found a physical body that we could occupy.” she answered. ”We find the operation and action of the Valkyries interesting, there were no such persons in our time.”

Vm9OGHS.png

Vaylin looked on with amusement, listening to how Darth Xanesh seemed to almost fall into a routine of explaining her age. It was certainly not the first time they had to do so, and the Zabrak suspected it wouldn't be the last. She couldn't imagine what it must've been like to have your very soul be merged with your sibling. There was a joke somewhere in there about sibling rivalries becoming that much more personal.

Although, the Zabrak pondered if being twins had made the process easier. A query for another time...

It did remind Vaylin of her own siblings. Two older, fraternal twins. Thick as thieves and ever at each other's side, helping the other. Less so when she had come into the picture, seeing her as nothing more than competition for dear mother's favour. They had the advantage, years of training ahead of her. But then her Force sensitivity appeared and made things worse.

Mother feared her.

Siblings hated her.

Looking back on it...was it ever a surprise she ended up where she was now?

"It's definitely not the first time you've had to explain that to someone." She smiled, taking another sip of her tea. "And you're quite right, there was no search group during those times, as the Netherworld was not as open as it is these days. The only thing you'd find were Force Ghosts, of Jedi who had found a sense of complete and total serenity, to manifest their souls into the physical plane." Vaylin leaned into her chair, a more serious mood shifting across the office.

"Ever since ABY 837, when a powerful entity invaded the galaxy, seeking revenge and a lost love. Her terror saw the Force unraveled and our connection to the Netherworld thrown open. Defeated yes, but her actions were like a pebble against glass. It caused a hole, of which cracked and spread until ABY 844 when the glass finally shattered. And billions were pulled into the Netherworld of the Force." The Zabrak paused to drink some more of her tea. "Now we live in an age where the living are capable of walking it's haunting lands."

It really wasn’t the first time Xanesh had told anyone this and she knew exactly that it wasn’t the last. They may have been twins, but they are very different, with different interests and thoughts. One side loved history and archeology, the other alchemy and experimentation. One was not interested in power, the other, also wanted to be an Empress and not just Dark Counselor. It was for this reason that they were not always in harmony and spoke to others with different looks.

At least they certainly agreed on something. It was Netherworld that they both wanted to know and learn as much as possible about it. She smiled for a moment, and then nodded at Vaylin's words.

”You're right, this isn't the first time. The first time happened when me met with his imperial majesty, Darth Carnifex Darth Carnifex . Since then, almost everyone asks this if we refer to ourselves as we.” she explained. ” Just a Jedi? Back then, we knew, all we knew about this was that Netherworld was presumably divided into several different parts. The souls of the Sith and Jedi will be elsewhere, as well as non-Force Users too. Though they are if all true are fully merged into the Force because they are not enough strong in retaining their own consciousness in the afterlife.``

Of course, Xanesh was aware that they might be wrong and nowhere near as she thought, they thought. She finally found out more about how the incident happened decades ago. She found all this very interesting and very useful. Love… the most useless emotion in the world.

”Love, no one ever learns that love can ruin worlds or galaxies.” she sighed. ”What kind of entity was it, can you know that? Are the people transferred there, are they still there, or have they managed to return? In addition, I have heard that alchemists and sorcerers have able to summon various creatures, demons, or ghosts from Netherworld by necromancy since this happened…”

Vm9OGHS.png

Y0Yp1u5.gif

"Agreed, love can be a damning emotion." Vaylin paused, her gaze shifting away slightly before returning to Xanesh and taking another sip of her tea. "It can be both a curse, a blessing or even both all at once. Unfortunately it as a curse hits a lot harder in comparison."

Much as she had personally known that with the eventual deteriorated relationship with Jorryn, Vaylin couldn't help but think of Allyson Locke Allyson Locke . The Corellian had been enraptured from a single meeting. Of course, things had developed further after that day but the chance moment on Dantooine had seemingly changed everything for Allyson. Someone who had willingly gave up everything because of her feelings for Jorryn. Step away from whatever degree of stability she had within the Galactic Alliance.

It was a question of if the cracks had already been showing by then. Given how easy it had been to push her the rest of the way, through the manipulations of the Emperor and the Lady of Secrets.

Vaylin had pondered that, if she was still capable of it, how much would she have hated Allyson. The Corellian had been that final push that caused her to separate from Jorryn after all. But then their issues had existed long before Locke had ever shown up, lingering in a bottle the Echani had refused to open until it was far too late. She probably would've hated Jorryn more.

"The reports are mixed and varied, tell different things here and there." Vaylin continued, not missing a beat. "The common one that I've seen, is that the being was Celestial. And in terms of those that had been pulled in...well there's a number that did manage to, all depending on how strong they were at the time. Others, they fell prey to the Netherworld, physical bodies lost and their souls damned." She had seen the effects in some of those survivors, having returned with their minds damaged behind full repair. "And you would be correct, ever since those events the doorways to the Netherworld have been opened that much wider. Rituals have been constructed and adapted to draw from it, like a new font of power."

Xanesh wasn't really familiar with the upper circles of the Empire, so he didn't know about a thing like Allyson Locke Allyson Locke , Vaylin Vaylin and Adriana Fortemps Adriana Fortemps 's love triangle. However, she learned exactly for example about Darth Alekto's death. So she was aware of matters important to the Empire, less so to private ones. That's why she said her words the way she did.

It is likely that if she had known about the matter, she would have articulated it more subtly, or he would not have reacted to that part. Although her opinion would not have changed about it even then. But that was just a private opinion. true what else could be expected from a two person where neither half ever afforded the luxury of love and never felt love? And for the other half, the first husband tried to kill her because he went crazy, and after her second's death, like an honorary Voss she would never choose a new pair for herself, as usual among the Voss.

And by merging these two souls, it was probably not too difficult to figure out what fate “came” for Xanesh. Meanwhile, Vaylin went on to answer his questions, so he listened intently to her words. He hummed a little all over the end.

”Interesting, we have only assumed the existence of the Celestials that it is possible that they exist. We read that it has since been revealed that it is indeed an existing species. This is also interesting. According to this, “everyone” who moved to the Netherworld after their death became these things. To our knowledge, anyone who is not very strong in the Force could not maintain his/her individuality in the afterlife and ceased to exist, merged into the Force. It was for this reason that only the Jedi and Sith were able to preserve themselves in the form of a spirit or ghost and find a way to our world. If we understand your words well, this is exactly how this operation broke and changed in Netherworld when the events happened.``

She waited for an answer and thought, then there was something else related to this so she also asked.

”According to this, if we think correctly, the creatures summoned by the necromancers are the cursed souls who died in the territory of the Netherworld.”

Vm9OGHS.png

Y0Yp1u5.gif

It was fascinating to watch Xanesh think and speak, wondering what it was like inside their head while they thought on the information, debated it and then spoke. She imagined given the time the two had spent before they obtained their freedom, that they had found a form of shared consciousness. To avoid potential headaches of having two minds knocking about in a single form.

And yet Vaylin still couldn't wrap her head around it. Just thinking of having another voice, another spirit in her body almost gave her a migraine, and made the Zabrak shiver a bit.

It reminded her of her earliest adventure, where she had done a bit of exploring, finding her way into a tomb and almost being possessed by a crotchety old spirit. Hearing that voice in her head had made her skin crawl for a good while after. And that was after successfully banishing the being for good.

"You would be correct, yes. Anyone who had no connection with the Force would've just been absorbed into the very energy upon falling into the Netherworld, provided they didn't have assistance from a Force User that is. For Jedi, Sith and the like, they still had to claw their way out of such a foreign and deadly realm. I even knew of a few individuals, Jedi from Padawan to Master to succumb to the Netherworld." The group she had been with on Dxun, that had 'abandoned' her when the Event had occurred. "But there's also a case for how the person or persons got killed. If it was violently, their spirits may remain to haunt, until their murderer finds their way to the Netherworld."

Just like how her mother and eldest siblings had been awaiting her when she had embarked on her Valkyrie Trials.

"I've never personally dabbled with Necromancy, but that that is a sound theory." And no doubt the practice got even more easier to draw upon once the walls between the realms had weakened. "There are many kinds of nightmarish creatures the Netherworld can spawn, influenced by the most tormented and haunted spirits that reside there. No doubt such necromantic summons came from the region of Chaos, within the Nether."

Xanesh continued to listen intently to what Vaylin had told her. Benûwia was more interested in this topic than Ireria. Although it was interesting for the historian to hear this as well. After all, what she heard was interesting enough. Some of her previous studies were still valid, which is a pleasant surprise. That is, the part that what was believed to be an assumption in her day thousands of years ago is now a proven fact.

”Jedi, eh? We have to admit, we don’t find this so surprising.”

There was some contempt in her voice. And the rest of the speech was still interesting. Would Force users help non-Force Sensitive people? After all, it was a perfectly normal attitude for them to become one with the Force view. Jedi… In this view, both Benûwia and Ireria fully agreed. And all this did not happen many times. She nodded firmly at the last part.

”We did the same, though our deaths were not a murder. But we too are trapped in the world of the living, with a merged soul. We never moved to the Netherworld. If our new body does not go to there, where we were and we cannot possess her body, we would still exist only as a Force Spirit.”

She just revealed a little detail about herself, too. That is, more details than before. After all, she didn't mention that she was stuck in the real world, just referred to it. She toyed with the question of whether, when this event happened, they would have been able to resurrect or not. That is, only alone, although it is possible that if they are not stuck in the world of the living, their souls will not merge either. After that, she looked at the other woman again, with full attention.

”We are familiar with necromancy, especially Benûwia. Chaos, we understand. Is this the same Chaos that the Corelians call “Hell” or “Void”? The place where the Sith and all other dark side Force users will end up after their deaths? Or at least those who are not stuck in the world of the living.”

In any case, it was promising that in this case she will be able to learn this…

Vm9OGHS.png

Y0Yp1u5.gif

Vaylin let out a quiet 'Hmm', leaning back into her chair as she sipped away at her tea. Ever since her eyes had been opened more towards the Netherworld, she had come to learn and understand that surprises were always going to be around the corner. Even if she felt like she had learned all she could.

There was always something new to learn.

"That's what fascinates me about your situation, how exactly would the Netherworld react to you both, in a single physical body."

It was already a risky point to try and physically traverse the Nether, if you weren't prepared mentally, you'd constantly feel a tug against your very soul. The Netherworld trying to draw it from your body, an unnatural feeling but then everything about it was unnatural.

"I can only speculate that if you were to walk into the Netherworld, you'd feel its effects two-fold. For each of you, the Netherworld would try and draw your souls to finally find rest." In her research, Vaylin had found information from ancient texts. Speaking of Sith Sorcerers from bygone areas that became hosts to several spirits at once, in order to gain more power. What was the name now...Darth Nox?

"Tell me Xanesh, when you were both merged, trapped in the form of a Force Spirit. Did you ever feel like something was trying to pull you away?" It was during a time when the Netherworld wasn't as open as it was these days. But Vaylin was curious if they had ever felt that particular complusion. Sure, there was a general desire to be free, but the Netherworld was always calling for lost souls to find rest.

Even if it was a bit more quieter about it during Xanesh's time.

The mention of Chaos brought a chuckle out of Vaylin's lips. It was particular subject that always amused Vaylin after she had discovered it.

"The one in the same, yes. Chaos, Hell, the Void. Different names for the same place. A location within the Netherworld solely for the spirits steeped in the darkest pits of the Force. The irony however, is that I've never set foot in it, not once. Despite my nature these days. Maybe I will when that day comes." If it ever did, Vaylin certainly didn't plan on it.

She raised an eyebrow for a moment, as Vaylin mentioned, that in Xanesh's case, going to the Netherworld could have an interesting effect. She also thought that because of her condition and the fact that she was stuck in the world of the living, her journey might not be too healthy for her. After all, she should actually be part of the Netherworld as a dead person, actually persons. Force Ghosts.

”We anticipated that our condition might be causing a problem or might just result in an interesting situation.” she agreed.

She listened intently to the possibilities Vaylin had outlined for her. She understood perfectly what it could all be. Maybe her souls will break apart or they may die. Or other options. Well, she thought it was still worth the experiment, or try, if the opportunity arose.

”Well, really, our ultimate goal is to somehow separate our souls. We weren’t explicitly doing well with each other while we were alive, we were just allies rather than sisters. So you can imagine that after all this time, this condition is tiring.”

She had to think about the next question, she had to recount exactly what it was, that is, the year they died. It was long enough, so she measured the time for Vitiate's death. As soon as she calculated the exact year according to BBY, she immediately said so.

”We died in BBY 3620, nearly 4,500 years ago. And no, we never felt that way, but we suspected it might have something to do with what we had done before we died. We worked in an alternative way that could have achieved immortality, but in a different way than what was known in our time. We wanted to tie ourselves to our own bloodline with a ritual so that we could reincarnate in the body of any of them at any time, if necessary. We also used a unique method we developed that allows us to share our power with each other or with another. We suspect that because of this method, our souls have merged. And no, we never felt that Netherworld would call us, or trying to pull us away.”

She nodded gratefully for the last sentences, then she thought really well. She had no other questions about this topic now, so she didn't react to anything other than the nod. But the information was definitely helpful.

The Zabrak listened intently as Xanesh explained their situation further, their ultimate goal finally revealed, and an ambitious one at that. But it was also an understandable one. As despite no matter how in sync they could be, how much possible unity there was between them, there was still two of them. Each with their own consciousness, identity, desires, dreams et cetera.

It brought Vaylin's mind back to her eldest siblings, who she had never considered as such to begin with. Already made into drones by their mother, who'd easily pull the strings to manipulate them into whatever she needed. The irony was, that she probably wouldn't have become so generally defiant if they hadn't immediately seen her as an opponent.

Because that's all they were to each other. Not siblings, not friends, not even associates. They had been rivals, and nothing more than that.

Vaylin shuddered at the thought of having her mind trapped in a single body with one of them. Though, from the sounds of things neither part of Xanesh were like that to the other.

"I'll be upfront and say, that goal of yours might be unobtainable at this point. At least not to the result either of you desire." Although she figured Xanesh already suspected this, if her line about their souls being potentially merged. "You spent four and a half millennia, with your souls not just trapped together, but combined. The no doubt result of the ritual backfiring." Vaylin did wonder if during their time in isolation, that either entity had figured out what had gone wrong. An error in the ritual setup? Sabotage maybe?

"That's not to say it's entirely impossible. Somewhere in this galaxy, or maybe the Netherworld itself, might have the solution to splitting you into two again. But it's a question of even distribution, so to speak. One of you might come out at the other end whole, the other scattered into fragments."

Waited patiently until Vaylin delved into her thoughts. In fact, she was thinking about what she should do, what the solution might be. As they talked about it, she remembered something. Although she has reached a dead end with all this, but who knows. Maybe the great acquaintance of Netherworld gets more than Xanesh. She thought again for a moment, then placed a shining “gem” to the table.

”This datacron, to which our soul was attached for millennia before this body reached the area where we were trapped in the world of the living. Since we were released it has only a simple datacron again. At least we didn't feel anything about it. There is nothing left, but it is true that we do not even know the other dimensions, planes yet. You might find or sense something we don’t.”

She nodded at her words, guessing it wouldn't be so easy or probably impossible, which would have been very unfortunate. The only positive side was that both of them had power like Xanesh. But regardless, they really wanted to be separate.

”Yes, it probably is. That is, rather that something or someone disrupted the ritual and an explosion occurred, which the swirling Force and all other processes only amplified. Even with the Flaw Walking ability, we weren't able to figure out what caused it. Or maybe who. That event is a complete blind spot.”

The next possibility that Vaylin outlined was considered and thought of by both sisters. In the end, they came up with pretty much the same answer. She was silent for a short time, a minute or two, that was the time the sisters tried to get along with each other. When all was done, she spoke afterwards.

”We have come to the point that we will postpone experiments that for the time being would certainly aim at separating our souls until we find a safer way. However, we have no objection to any other process that could cause this as a side effect. After all, it’s also a science, it’s worth the risk for us.”
