Would it be survivable to have Viper do a quick run and knock out a few transports as they came down before falling back again? It appears so far that the drop ships were sent in without ANY fighter support to protect them! Just want to make sure I have read the situation correctly...

i'm sorry. But a foot soldiers gun is going to have absolutely zero impact on Viper's heavily armored ship, and that's ignoring his shields. What might affect him is tank fire...if they can manage to hit the fast moving target so high in the air. but otherwise, without fighter support. Those dropships are sitting ducks! unless of course i missed something else. (which i what i'm checking on)

I think Viper actually has a pretty good handle on it. I didn't read anything about fighter support for the drop ships either. Unless I missed it too. Was kinda wondering why they were having such an easy time landing, if that's the case...

[member="viper"] any drop fleet would have some sort of escort, so you need more than one ship to do out. Also drops ships have their own guns, see this post, so they are never sitting ducks

Short answer: yes. There will be plenty of escorts, but the ASA is generally outgunned so you won't be alone. Have fun.

Any drop should be supported with fighters yes. But if it wasn't posted, I have to take it as they weren't deployed. I cannot just assume your drop was dispatched perfectly. If you guys forgot to post fighter protection that is our gain, your loss. and in your link, it said drop pods are fairly fragile, launch and forget ships. Not only that, but if they are by some miracle rigged with point defense guns. They have extremely limited range. Something Viper will be sure to stay well out of. Based on this. I am proceeding with a strafing run on the fairly, at the present, "defenseless" dropships.

If I missed anything else though, please let me know. I am certainly not all knowing. lol but based on what i see currently, the OP has a golden opportunity to nip this invasion in the bud.

Ok, love the enthusiasm, but at the least don't neglect the escorts that were specifically mentioned. You'll want to pay particular attention to the ones bristling jn quad lasers, flak guns and point defenses.
