Ancient Emperor, Preserver of the Sith

OUT OF CHARACTER INFORMATION
GENERAL INFORMATION
  • Holocron Name: In Preparation of Dawn (Animus' first Holocron)
  • Alignment: Dark Side
  • Origin: Darth Animus, a Sith Lord during the Great Galactic Wars turned Emperor by necessity following the Republic's eventual victory, created a series of holocrons chronicling the events following the end of the Greats Wars, the collapse of the Empire of the time, and his pursuits for a prolonged life.
  • Affiliation: Lord Venari
  • Gatekeeper: A minor force imprint of Darth Animus lies within the crystals of the holocron. He was a tall humanoid; half Firrerreon and half Echani wearing the Sith robes of the time along with an armored cuirass and Sith pendant. He also has a distinctive half gold and red mask covering the left side of his face. The imprinted copy responds best to those interested in a perfected Sith order where one's merits & power stand above things like species, and interests that would jeopardize the whole. As this is the first in a series of holocrons Animus had made after the end of the Great Galactic War it can details events up to its creation but cannot convey Animus' later findings.
  • Description: The holocron is smaller than most at around the size of a fist. Animus discusses the Great War and how he believed a more meritocratic Empire might have ultimately been victorious. Having recently gleaned into a possible future, Animus furthered his research into the force's abilities to prolong life in a mixture between Sith Sorcery and the various powerful applications of force drain. He recorded his findings in a series of holocrons to both sort his thoughts and make them accessible to future generations of Sith if necessary.
DEFENSES
  • Accessibility: One must speak an old Firrerreon phrase, "may you be shielded from the wind" while pouring an immense amount of dark side energy into the holocron.
  • Security: Should the holocron sense the power of the light within a five-meter radius it will attempt to drain the source of its life over time. On the other hand if the user lacks the necessary strength in the dark side it will remain inert.

CONTENT INFORMATION
The Holocron details events Animus would refer to as the New Dawn of Light, a period after the Great Galactic Wars came to an end and the Republic began to reestablish control in the galaxy. Remaining Sith factions warred over the power vacuum left behind by the Empire. Meanwhile, Animus rallied those remaining Sith and Imperials that had a head for the long game, to prepare for the battles to come. After gathering the personal and equipment he deemed valuable, Animus drew out into the unknown regions where he waged a drawn out war prioritizing the survival of the Empire. While some criticized his efforts, his moves ensured the Empire would live on. For many years his shadow war proved successful, seeing major blows against Republic fleets and the elimination of key Jedi figures.

After a seemingly flawless campaign he had a premonition, an encounter that would jeopardize the remains of Sith Empire. Following contingencies he'd planned, much of his Shadow Empire went into hiding to gather their strength. Animus withdrew from the war effort & continued research from years prior; with his apprentice, Darth Avarice, a rare and powerful Sith healer. Together they delved back into a merge between Sith Sorcery and unique, powerful applications of the dark side's ability to drain life in order to prolong their own and those they deemed worthy. Avarice himself had stumbled upon a power use the dark side to heal those around him but without mastering it, Animus was left with the strides he'd made during the war.

The abilities Animus would store within the holocron related to many Sith magics including some iterations of dark tendrils, force blast, certain levels of healing and protection as well as twisting life to one's will and necromancy. Additionally he passed on some of the applications of force drain including a deadly field that would wither away those around him (which would eventually be learned and expanded up upon by Darth Bane).

After initial testing with this merging of powers, Animus elucidates some of his core philosophies and how the great Sith Empire had fallen. While the pillars of the Sith are built on the strong consuming and replacing the weak, he believed the cowardice of some Sith that chose to wait until their masters were caught in battle against the Republic to only turn Imperial forces on each other was the largest deciding factor of the war. As infighting between the dark council escalated there were just as many Sith & imperials fighting each other as there were battling the Republic. If one thought they were stronger than their master then they best challenge them directly and at a time where the Empire itself would not be put in jeopardy. Scheming and mischief, while always existent within the Sith history, ultimately left the Empire with weakness in places of leadership and only crippled the whole. Additionally he felt race didn't dictate one's potential. Slaves should be made of the weak, not the different. An unbiased meritocracy based on strength and power would serve the Empire best.

HISTORICAL INFORMATION
Preparing for a possible eventuality that would see the end of the Sith Empire, Animus sent the bulk of his forces into the deep unknown. After various contingencies were followed through he set off to search for ways to prolong his life and potentially grasp the ever-sought immortality all Sith desired. Chronicling his research and progress with the melding of various dark side abilities and Sith sorcery, Animus created a series of holocrons between the time of his forces departure and what he saw as his potential end. The shadow Emperor had every intention of fighting his apparent fate, but decided it best to record his thoughts and progress, whether it be for him to reflect on later, or for the two Sith he truly trusted, Avarice and Sanctus, to discover and use. Should all go wrong future generations might gleam some insight into both the failings and successes of those past.

Ultimately the holocron ended up in the hands of scavengers, which Lord Venari encountered on Ilum. Having sensed its power he executed the group of them and recovered the Animus' holocron which would forever change his perception of the Sith and the dark side. Upon investigation, Venari saw that the previous logged stops of the scavenger vessel were on Riflor and before that Zakuul.
