CHARACTER CREATION | INQUISITORIUS:
"The Empire regulates reactors, fleets, and armies. Why should the Force be exempt?"- Unknown Imperial Admiral
Mission Statement:
The Inquisitorius exists to ensure that the Force serves the Empire rather than the other way around. Throughout galactic history, Force users have repeatedly elevated themselves above governments, laws, and institutions, dragging entire civilizations into wars fought over prophecy, ideology, and personal ambition. The Inquisitorius rejects this tradition completely. Its purpose is to identify, contain, recruit, train, and if necessary eliminate Force-sensitive threats while ensuring that supernatural power remains firmly under Imperial control. Inquisitors are not expected to be monks, prophets, or conquerors. They are weapons of the state, investigators of the unknown, hunters of dangerous individuals, and guardians against those who would place themselves above civilization simply because they possess extraordinary abilities.
OOCly, the Inquisitorius exists to provide Force-user writers with an Imperial experience that differs significantly from traditional Jedi and Sith roleplay. Rather than focusing on ancient destinies, secret bloodlines, or endless philosophical debates, the branch is built around service, discipline, investigations, internal politics, dangerous missions, artifact recovery, Force-sensitive threats, and the tension that comes from wielding immense power while remaining subordinate to a greater institution. We want Force-user characters who feel grounded within the wider faction rather than existing separately from it. Whether your character is a hunter, interrogator, scholar, enforcer, investigator, or aspiring leader, the goal is to create compelling stories where the Force is an important tool, but never the sole answer to every problem. The Inquisitorius should feel like a natural part of the Imperial machine, not a separate faction living inside it.
Alright, Let's do this:
Creating an Inquisitor begins with answering a simple question: what kind of person would willingly, or unwillingly become one? The Inquisitorius is not a refuge for heroes, nor is it simply a collection of Sith with different uniforms. Every Inquisitor has sacrificed something to stand where they are now. Some were recruited from failed Jedi traditions. Others were discovered before any order could claim them. Some sought power, others sought purpose, and a few simply wanted to survive. Consider what drew your character to the Inquisitorius and, more importantly, what the Inquisitorius took from them in return. The best Inquisitors are often defined less by their powers and more by the scars left behind by the process that created them.
Once you understand their past, think about their relationship with the Force. Unlike Jedi or Sith, Inquisitors are not expected to devote themselves to a grand philosophy. The Force is a tool, a weapon, and a responsibility. Some Inquisitors may fully embrace this doctrine, viewing themselves as disciplined servants of the state. Others may secretly struggle with it, balancing personal ambition against institutional loyalty. Your character may be a hunter, interrogator, scholar, investigator, executioner, diplomat, or something entirely different. Not every Inquisitor needs to be the strongest duelist in the room. In fact, some of the most interesting characters are those who rely upon intelligence, manipulation, knowledge, or specialized expertise rather than raw power alone.
Finally, remember that Inquisitors are intended to create stories, not dominate them. A good Inquisitor should generate opportunities for interaction both within and outside the faction. They may investigate Force-sensitive threats, recover dangerous artifacts, oversee political operations, mentor recruits, clash with Intelligence officers, work alongside military commanders, or pursue personal missions that intersect with wider Imperial goals. Most importantly, do not feel pressured to create an unstoppable dark lord. The Inquisitorius is a branch built on discipline, growth, rivalry, and service. A young Inquisitor struggling to find their place, a veteran haunted by what they have become, or an ambitious operative climbing the ranks will often create far more engaging stories than the most powerful Force user in the galaxy.
It is also important to understand that while the Inquisitorius is the Force User branch of the Imperial Reclamation Authority, the Authority itself remains a primarily Non-Force User faction. The Army, Navy, Intelligence services, and Government form the overwhelming majority of the Empire's personnel, resources, and decision-making power. Inquisitors are influential, dangerous, and respected, but they are not intended to overshadow the rest of the faction or become the solution to every problem. An Inquisitor may possess abilities beyond those of ordinary individuals, but they still operate within a larger institution that relies upon soldiers, officers, spies, administrators, and countless others to function. Writers are encouraged to view their Force-sensitive characters as part of the Imperial machine rather than separate from it. The goal is to create Force Users who contribute to the wider faction narrative, support other branches, and participate in the same stories as everyone else rather than existing in a world of their own.
"Some of us were chosen. Some of us were taken. In the end, the distinction stopped mattering." -
Alexandra Delaine
So, no sub-branches:
Unlike the Army, Navy, Intelligence, and Government, the Inquisitorius does not possess formal sub-branches because it is simply too small and specialized an organization to justify them. The other branches oversee tens of thousands, or even millions, of personnel performing vastly different functions across the Empire. The Inquisitorius, by contrast, is a compact body of highly trained Force-sensitive operatives whose responsibilities frequently overlap. An Inquisitor may spend one month hunting a rogue Force user, the next recovering a dangerous artifact, then assisting an Intelligence operation or advising a military commander. Attempting to divide such a small organization into rigid departments would only create unnecessary bureaucracy and limit the flexibility that makes the Inquisitorius effective.
This is also a deliberate design choice from both an IC and OOC perspective. The Inquisitorius is intended to function more like a specialist corps than a conventional branch of government. Every Inquisitor is expected to be adaptable, self-sufficient, and capable of performing a wide variety of duties depending on the needs of the Empire. While individual Inquisitors will naturally develop specialties—such as investigations, archaeology, interrogation, diplomacy, combat, or intelligence work—these are personal areas of expertise rather than formal organizational divisions. The branch remains small enough that its members can know one another, develop rivalries, mentor newcomers, and maintain a strong collective identity without being fragmented into separate bureaucratic structures. In short, the Inquisitorius has no sub-branches because its greatest strength is versatility, and the moment it becomes large enough to require subdivisions, something has likely gone very wrong with the Empire.
Alright, what about Ranks/Units:
The Inquisitorius uses a deliberately simple rank structure focused on authority, experience, and responsibility rather than bureaucracy. Unlike the Army or Navy, where officers may command thousands of personnel and complex organizations, Inquisitors operate in much smaller numbers and often independently. New members typically begin as Acolytes, Force-sensitive recruits undergoing training and evaluation. Above them are Inquisitors, fully recognized members of the organization trusted to conduct investigations, recover artifacts, hunt threats, and carry out Imperial directives without direct supervision. Senior personnel may rise to the position of High Inquisitor, overseeing major operations, coordinating multiple Inquisitors, and serving as advisors to the wider leadership of the Authority. Advancement is determined less by seniority and more by demonstrated competence, loyalty, and the ability to consistently produce results.
Similarly, the Inquisitorius does not organize itself into large military formations. The smallest and most common unit is simply the Individual Inquisitor, reflecting the branch's preference for independent action and personal responsibility. When a mission requires additional support, Inquisitors may form temporary Conclaves, small task forces assembled for a specific objective such as artifact recovery, hunting a dangerous Force user, investigating supernatural phenomena, or conducting a sensitive operation. These Conclaves are usually dissolved once their task is complete. Larger gatherings of the Inquisitorius are rare and generally reserved for matters of significant importance to the Empire or the branch itself.
OOCly, this structure is intentionally lightweight. The Inquisitorius is designed to encourage character-driven stories, personal rivalries, mentorships, investigations, and cooperative operations without burying writers beneath unnecessary hierarchy. Your rank should help define your character's experience and responsibilities, but it should never prevent you from participating in stories with others. The branch works best when its members feel like a small community of dangerous specialists operating within a much larger Imperial machine, rather than a separate military organization with its own sprawling bureaucracy.
