- Description: As the Mahporeem Imperial Remnant continues to expand its power and influence across the Outer Rim, it has run into a problem that has plagued Mahporeem since it reopened itself to the galaxy at large: a severe and constant shortage of manpower. Though the acquisition of cloning chambers, the opening of the Dome City Prison Complex and increased immigration to the planet due to the refugee crisis around the Core Worlds has somewhat alleviated this problem, the Imperial Remnant still remains short on soldiers. That is where the Imperial Corsairs come in. Officially neutral and condemned by the Imperial Remnant, Imperial Corsairs are supplied by Mahporeem to raid cargo vessels and attack starcraft belonging to enemies of all Imperials, though Imperial Corsairs tend to work with Mahporeem more for their own benefit than out of ideology for the Imperial cause.
- Unit Size: Large, many of the ships needed to raid vessels operating throughout the Outer Rim require fairly large crews, especially if these crews are attempting to engage in boarding actions against enemy ships.
- Unit Availability: Common, as with the state of the galaxy and the chaos permeating throughout it, there is no shortage of criminals and former soldiers looking for an easy payday, especially in the Outer Rim where many major factions have yet to establish their presence.
- Unit Experience: Recruit, as one might imagine, many of those "serving" as Imperial Corsair are simply looking for an easy payday or an excuse to inflict violence on others. Few of them are trained in combat, though interspersed amongst some crew are former Imperial Confederation personnel who have some idea of how to actually fight.
- Equipment: Like many Mahporeenian units, Imperial Corsairs often have to make do with whatever the Imperial Remnant has on hand for them. This generally means an assorted mismatch of old Imperial armors and antiquated weapons of various makes and models. No two Imperial Corsair crews wield the same equipment, though the Imperial Remnant does at least attempt to standardize the vessels they use by purchasing or stealing open market models for them, which allows the Imperial Remnant to claim some amount of "plausible deniability" as to who the pirates actually work for:
- Combat Function: Imperial Corsairs serve a vital number of functions for the various Imperial Remnant factions of the Outer Rim. Firstly, Imperial Corsairs raid cargo vessels for their shipments and passenger vessels in order to take hostages, generating much needed income for many of the Imperial Remnants. Secondly, Imperial Corsairs serve as "cannon fodder" for more experienced Imperial units during fleet engagements, though any Imperial Corsairs brave or stupid enough to face an actual military fleet will inevitably find themselves fleeing at the first available opportunity, though the allure of military grade salvage does remain hard to resist. Finally, Imperial Corsairs act as the "eyes and ears" of the Imperial Remnants, as the increased number of available ships allows these remnants to more effectively patrol and survey their territory. Of course, from a public standpoint at least, the Mahporeem Imperial Remnant remains opposed to any forms of piracy within its territory, and Imperial Corsair are just as likely to attack their Imperial overlords as they are their intended victims, and are almost guaranteed to run away at the first sign of any serious opposition.
- Force Abilities (Force User Units Only): N/A
- Plausible deniability: Though they often utilize Imperial equipment, Imperial Corsairs are technically not affiliated with Mahporeem or any Imperial Remnant, giving the Imperial Remnants plausible deniability for anything that the Imperial Corsairs do
- Surrender your booty: Imperial Corsairs often raid cargo vessels and passenger vessels for their shipments and hostages, helping to generate additional income for Mahporeem and the other Imperial Remnants
- Disposable: Imperial Corsairs are often viewed as little more than "cannon fodder" and are essentially expendable to the various Imperial Remnants
- Nonstandard: It is often quite difficult to prepare for Imperial Corsair raids due to the varied nature of the equipment used by them
- Keep your eyes peeled: Any hostile force operating in Imperial territory runs the risk of being ambushed by Imperial Corsairs, though more heavily armed naval forces are less likely to be attacked
- Plausible deniability: The fact that Imperial Corsairs work with Mahporeem and the other Imperial Remnants is something of an open secret, and anyone with even half a brain would be able to put two and two together
- Unruly: Imperial Corsairs are just as likely to attack their allies as they are their enemies if it means securing themselves a payday
- Undisciplined: When faced with overwhelming force or serious opposition, Imperial Corsairs are quite likely to try and flee the moment they're able to
- Nonstandard: The use of nonstandard equipment amongst Imperial Corsairs can make maintaining any sort of logistics immensely difficult, especially for Mahporeem
- Publicity: Any actions taken by Imperial Corsairs tend to reflect poorly on Mahporeem and the Imperial Remnants, no matter what official Imperial policy against them is
The instability of the Outer Rim was made far worse with the collapse of the Imperial Confederation, as emboldened criminals and ex-Confederation personnel began turning to piracy in order to make ends meet and to enrich themselves at the expense of others. Yet, as time went on, clear patterns began emerging about who these pirates would choose to attack. Ships affiliated with the Wild Space Rebellion and anti-Imperial causes were almost guaranteed to be targeted, while ships operating under the Imperial Remnants,
These patterns of attack were no mere accidents or coincidences, but rather the work of Mahporeenian aligned Imperial Corsairs. Officially, Imperial Corsairs were pirate gangs made up of criminals and ex-Confederation personnel that were operating throughout the Outer Rim without the express consent or permission of the Mahporeem Imperial Remnant, making them enemies of all Imperials. Unofficially, Imperial Corsairs were directly supplied by the Imperial Remnant with old Imperial equipment and open market ships to wreck havoc upon anyone opposed to Imperial ideas.
Of course, the fact that Imperial Corsairs work with the Mahporeem Imperial Remnant is something of an open secret, though this hasn't stopped them from targeting cargo vessels and taking hostages for ransom aboard passenger ships. Every action that Imperial Corsairs takes is designed to generate income for Mahporeem and the various Imperial Remnants, with both the corsairs and the Imperial Remnants getting a share of the plunder. Imperial Corsairs are also used to bolster Imperial forces throughout the galaxy, and while most of them are concentrated throughout the Outer Rim, some have been seen operating as far away as Bastion.
Though useful, the quality of Imperial Corsairs often leaves something to be desired, as these pirate gangs are infamous for their poor discipline and unruliness. Imperial Corsairs are quite likely to flee at the first sign of trouble or to attack their allies if doing so is advantageous to them. Whether or not the benefits that these corsairs bring outweigh the drawbacks of their existence remains to be seen, but regardless, their presence throughout the Outer Rim will only continue to grow unless serious efforts are made to wipe them out once and for all, something that Mahporeem may not entirely mind for the future...
