The Impending Storm is a light cruiser developed by Iron Wrath Industries during the later years of the Iron Empire. Prior to its dissolution, then-Vice Regent Zeradias Mant commissioned the construction of a smaller, scrappy command vessel which might evade unwanted attention when detached from main fleets. Even as the Iron Empire dissolved, development and construction of the ship continued, and Mant received notification of its completion shortly before his attempted assassination on Coruscant.
The ship was designed to cover a wide array of contingencies one might encounter in space, and independence from support craft or larger fleets was a guiding principle in its design. In order to minimize the crew necessary for optimal operation, many non-essential functions have been automated or sourced to droids. With a fully organic crew, the Impending Storm is able to carry enough resources to spend three continuous months away from port, but with a reduced crew, it can spend an upwards of two years.
Because of the versatile nature of the light cruiser, it is able to fill a myriad of roles to include patrol duties, acting as a support vessel to larger fleets, serving as an armed transport, as a communications vessel, or as a forward reconnaissance ship. Practically, it functions as a highly mobile and adaptable command vessel and as the personal flagship of Zeradias Mant.
