He didn't know it, but when he discovered it, the irony would nearly knock him off his feet. A Jedi, hiding in the tundra and caves of Hoth, had helped the First Order conquer Hoth. Things had reached a pretty pass, when sworn enemies could join hands. As Karryar Ren watched in irritated disbelief as his forces were ravaged by artillery fire and a massive corridor leading up the central path directly towards his base was blasted open, he knew that he had more important things to do than marvel at the -- what? -- strategy? dumb luck? He allowed a moment to indulge himself in rage, to draw strength from it, to refresh himself in it. It provided warmth in the chill of this godforsaken planet.

Then, he knew it was time to get to work.

"It's over," he told his technicians. "Sound the evacuation code signal. Continue firing the ion cannons to keep the path clear for evacuation. Pull our men back in staggered waves and deploy the fighters. Get firing solutions on those artillery and walkers and send the heavy bombers. I don't care what it costs."

He turned back to the table. Now that he didn't need to worry about keeping the base secret and in tact, it was time to open up the big guns. Elsewhere in the base, a mismatched fleet of bombercraft lifted from icy flight decks and streaked skyward, obtaining firing solutions on the First Order and allied forces marching on his location. Fighters launched too, to provide escort. Soon the payloads were dropping, targeting everyone that wasn't Karryar Ren. It wouldn't stop them, but he hoped it would give them time to evacuate the most valuable materiel and personnel.

A moment later, the evacuation signal sounded. Civilians began to load their transports.

"Copy that, Black Three," said Dae-Hyun, pleased for the backup. "Keep it tight and watch out for those rocks. If you think it's too much or if you take a hit, get out of here. I'm not sending you back to your people in a box over two-bit smugglers, got it?" He threw his ship into a right spiraling dive, drawing another shriek of concern from BB-10K8. He dialed her volume down and plunged further into the asteroid field, juking this way and that to avoid the spinning rocks.

::WARNING: THE ODDS OF A DISABLED SHIP SURVIVING WITHIN THIS ASTEROID FIELD ARE 581,145,902 TO 1! THE LIKELIHOOD OF FUGITIVE SHIPS DESTRUCTION IS ALMOST CERTAIN!::

Dae-Hyun frowned as he brought his ship through another death-defying spinning turn, lofting around an asteroid like a glider cresting a hill. The ship he was chasing disappeared behind another large rock. He opened a channel. "Unidentified ship, this is Captain Kim of the First Order. You will not survive in this asteroid field. Return to clear space and surrender and you will not be harmed." He touched his earpiece as static came through it, then a voice.

"This is civilian freighter Prudence. We accept your offer. Please aide us in getting out of the asteroid field."

"Copy that, Prudence, I'll approach to provide escort and flight guidance. Make ready, approaching from vector six six one." He brought his ship around, ready to extend radio guidance, but was instead greeted by an explosive charge, left right in the vector he'd told them he was coming. "Motherkr--" the charge went off, the shockwave blasting his TIE fighter backwards. His ship bonked against the asteroid and begun to spin listlessly. His engines didn't respond. He flipped over to the First Order channel.

"Mayday, mayday, this is Black Leader. My TIE fighter is disabled. Appear to have limited thruster control, but no engine. Repeat, no engine." He grunted and looked at his radar, wincing hard and using his thrusters to spin out of the way of an approaching asteroid. He began to sweat, sweat prickling down his flight suit. "OK, Kate, what do you reckon the odds on this are?"

BB-10K8 only made a mournful beep.

"Yeah, that's what I thought, too. Sit tight and let's see what options we have for rescue are, or if we'll just live here from now on."

:: Acknowledged Black Lead ::

She had turned upward to try and get behind the smuggler, Black-Two and Four moved to flank as well. The asteroid field greeted them plainly and as the chase continued even Niance hadn't noticed the trap they were being led into. It wasn't until the explosion, "dank farrik!" Cursed the Imperial and the poor BB unit screeched in every possible combination of binary that it could.

:: Black-Three to Orb, requesting assistance, repeat we have a bird down - requesting assistance ::

Short of a tow cable the best Niance could do was delegate.

:: Black-Two and Four patrol the area keep Black-One in your view ::

Niance chewed on the inside of her cheek and pressed on the yoke pushing the TIE harder than it had been pushed in the last few minutes. Its screams were silenced by the void as it tore through the empty black of space maneuvering around the asteroids. "Bee get a scan going let me know if they've got any more party gifts for us."

:: Orb to Black-Three, assistance is on the way ::

“Ah yes, passion, so very important,” Tithe replied absentmindedly as he continued to survey the ice-encrusted compound. The zeal the Eclipse Rebels had for the liberation of their people was admirable be imagined, though largely a subject abstract to the Vice Chancellor. To care for something other than one's self - with the exceptions of amassing unimaginable wealth - was a foreign concept. Certainly, Tithe had gone to battle before, but never unless there was something in it for him and his bank balance.

“My contacts within the First Order, I’m ashamed to admit, are paltry,” he explained. He’d spent time building relationships with the Rebels and the Zweihander Union in preparation for his covert war with the Eternal Empire, but until now, the FO hadn’t figured into the equation. His understanding though was that the regime had a common enemy in the Empire, which presently occupied a number of former FO worlds. By ideals or greed, he would find a way.

“But paperwork, see now we're talking. I’ll handle the documentation if you can sort out all of, this,” Tithe replied, gesturing at the abandoned base the two men stood within. “I’ll be in touch.” He nodded to his SIA paramilitary escorts to signal they were leaving and fastened his thermal coat tighter in preparation for the wind chill outside.

“And Commissioner,” he called back over his shoulder, the whirling frozen wind from outside the base threatening to mask his voice. “As always, a pleasure.”

A tunnel ever shrinking around a white tower, white with swirling snow. Everything shrunk down, down, down to blackness.

And then.

Ahh-le-lu.

Sybil first felt it like a sort of pain, reawakening as electricity coursed up and down her body before stabilizing. Severe as that might have been it certainly beat the alternative. At first, she gasped at the sight of a helmet, reeling that somehow this was that shining demon bestowing some other shame upon what should have been a corpse. A moment passed and Shepard realized that this was some kind of Mandalorian. A specialist? Another Agent? It didn’t matter. The beskar was real enough, and in this half and half state of life this mystery person seemed like an angel.

Instinctively, Sybil clung to the rescuer, apologizing breathlessly because her lungs couldn’t really draw in everything needed in such a pathetic state.

“I’m sorry. I’m sorry.” Terrible bother, she was.

~Reboot FAILED; CODE NW-31453-6. ??? V.MISSING FILE. MISSING EXE~
Suit integrity: ERROR

Power Reserve: ERROR

Meanwhile, the Construct was not much better off. Explosions had severed even more connections, and worst yet, the lack of attention paid towards the Mando interloper resulted in a premature resuscitation of the vessel. It didn’t matter now. Whatever percentage of the package uploaded would just have to be enough. Remote ports shut down. Speakers both within and without the suit fizzled out, and the turrets on the server level really started going bonkers.

Sparks of electricity started to burst out the seams of the ultrachrome helmet as the programming code inside failed. Consciousness reverted down to basic executables, and the machine interface overloaded, making the droid holding this all together go on a rampage of blind attacks with little in the shape of form or function. Terminals were smashed, systems were terminated, and the whole lot of this whirlwind turned into a kind of shocking vortex of brandished edges, sizzling wires, and random blasts.

"Pakod burc'ya pakod," the Mandalorian replied and slowly eased the person up against a solid wall. "Ni malyasa'yr cuyir norac."
The other agent there Nima Vantoon was one that Ariel recognized but Matidia knew nothing of. Instead of focusing on the agent, Matidia focused on controlling the droid beast. Wires laid opened and exposed as consoles erupted with audacious fury, but a fury that both Matidia and Ariel could find peace in. The Mandalorian was able to side step the now frenzied droid, the attacks had much less pattern to them and more chaos. One last detonator, the Beskar-clad woman charged into the fray and managed to slap the droid with it and did work on the remaining part of the room with blaster fire.
Every part of this room had to be destroyed, flamethrower at work the Mandalorian ducked and weaved around the droid. Once satisfied that the room would either collapse on itself or collapse when the droid was detonated. Matidia went back for the wounded woman against the wall and carefully lifted her up. "Mhi ganar at slanar!" She shouted toward the other agent that had as far as Matidia could see been on her feet.
Matidia went toward the central most part of the room where she could hazard a glimpse upward where they had come down through. She angled her arm forward and a small grappling hook appeared. The hiss of the hook releasing from the gauntlet could be heard. It managed around a jagged piece of durasteel. "Vod!" She shouted toward the other agent again, "mhi ganar at slanar!" They had to go, otherwise the Mandalorian hoped to Manda that the woman managed to survive.
As the grappling line reeled upward with the Mandalorian and the Major, Matidia heard the beep of the detonator go silent followed by the explosion. She managed to get herself and the wounded party back onto the ice cold floor of a passage way. The flames shooting upward from the server room forced Matidia to cover the Major with her body once again. She then looked to see if the other agent had managed to come back up.

Nima's narrowed her eyes as she watched this Mandalorian face down the frenzied droid. She was screaming something- some language, the Mandalorian language?- at the downed Major Shepard. Then pulled out a flame-thrower, and Nima knew it was time to move.

Surreptitiously, she edged near a server. Yanking a drive out of her wrist, she quickly plugged it in and scanned the databank before downloading a few choices files, looking over her shoulder as the Mandalorian screamed, 'Mhi ganar at slanar!' in her direction.

"Vod!" She shouted toward the other agent again, "mhi ganar at slanar!"

Nima looked at the frenzied droid, noticing for the first time it was attached to a detonator, then the rapidly retreating form of the Mandalorian with the prone body of Shepard in tow. Cursing, she yanked the drive out and sprinted towards the opening they had retreated from, and began to attempt to wall kick her way out.

She wasn't fast enough.

The concussive force hit Nima first, propelling her out, far faster then she would have been able to do physically. Then came the flames.

Blearily, Nima looked up. Everything hurt. She touched her ears, noticing the blood coming out of them. And everything hurt. Her mechanical arm- blown to hell. She touched her face, feeling the blisters on the top right side of it and on her head- which seemed be bereft of a lot of her hair. She tapped her SOS on her comm.

With what felt to be a herculean effort, clambered to her feet, immediately noticing two things- her equilibrium was completely shot, and the Mandalorian- the Mandalorian who seemed to be responsible for her getting bludgeoned by a crazy droid and nearly blown up twice- was a few hundred feet away.

"Who...who the KRIFF...who do you think you-", Nima growled out before her world tilted on it's axis, and she knew no more.

Karryar Ren did a brisk walkthrough of the base, looking for stragglers left behind. The First Order forces were advancing on the base rapidly now that the defenses had been thwarted so decisively. Ren wasn't even angry; Hoth was never meant to be a permanent home, but it was out of the way enough that he had hoped for time for his people to catch their collective breath. But it wasn't meant to happen, so they were on the run. Again. Time to find a new hidey-hole and wait it out.

A trio of technicians were in one cavern off the main corridor, packing up the last of their equipment. "Get to your transports," Karryar Ren admonished them, his voice echoing off the sides of the cavern even as the thudding of walker feet caused snow to come sifting down in sheets. "They'll be upon us shortly."

"Yes, my lord," called one of the technicians. "We have all we need here. We were just completing a wipe of the database."

"Very good. Are you the last in this area?"

Another technician answered: "We believe so, my lord."

Ren nodded and proceeded his rounds. He didn't find anyone else in the caverns, and when he arrived at the main hangar, most of the transports were gone, with others in the final stages of loading. He could feel the slow but steady thrum-thrum of the ion cannon firing a corridor clear for their evac out in the icy cold. He waited and watched until the transports were loaded. Karryar Ren could do no more, so he boarded his fightercraft and launched, streaking towards the sky and then to escape.

Matidia looked over at the agent and sighed, bloody purebred Imps. She cursed and checked the Agent beside her, and held her hand out giving the sign for her to wait and stay. She trekked the small distance between herself and the brunette woman, boots imprinting against the snow with the Mandalorian purposefully scuffing them behind her. "Ni rejorhaa'ir gar at nari," gruffed the beskar-helmted woman and ordered, "narir ya bu'yraolyara."
Although it was apparent the woman would not be moving any time son. Matidia knelt down and scooped the brunette (Nima Vantoon ) into her arms, and then turned around. She trekked back toward the Agent ( The Major The Major ) the Mandalorian looked between the two and exhaled. She knelt down again and shifted the brunette down onto the ground. Matidia briefly left both of them in search of something, a tarp, blanket, or anything large enough to pull them both.
It took roughly five minutes to find something and another seven to fashion it so the Mandalorian could pull them and have some sense of security that neither one would be rolling out of their respective sling. Once everyone was secure and tied in to Matidia's satisfaction she began the climb out of the frozen hell they'd all been in.
Eventually - and Matidia never looked at how long, only that the sun was now starting to go down.
She herself collapsed out onto the snow and took the next few moments to rest before flagging down a squad of Stormtroopers on patrol. Before they had a chance to question the Mandalorian, she was gone. The two women would be given medical attention and the Mandalorian sent out an encrypted signal. She made a mental note to return to Hoth soon, to make sure that everything in the archives was dead and gone.

Lydia stood in near-blizzard conditions as her makeup artist tried her best to finish touching her up. "I don't see what the point of this is," said Lydia. "It's snowing sideways. No one is going to be able to see me." The makeup artist, who was used to dealing with Lydia Reed's faux attitude, said nothing and continued working.

"We're live in five," said the camera operator.

"Yeah, OK, she's good," the makeup artist said, quickly capping her tools and returning to the warmth of the heater near the shuttle. When Lydia went live, she was standing on a bluff overlooking the ruins of Echo Base and Outpost Veers and, true to form, most of it was obscured by the snow. "Good evening everyone, I'm Lydia-Finn Camden and this is a Camden Media Group Breaking News Alert. I am broadcasting live from Hoth where the local temperature is a balmy negative sixty degrees centigrade. I'm here to confirm that the First Order has returned to Hoth following reports of a pirate stronghold here in a makeshift base in the ruins of former First Order base Outpost Veers."

Lydia inclined her head; even bundled in a fur-trimmed coat, hat, and gloves with artificial heat-emitters to prevent her face from becoming frostbitten, she was uncomfortably cold. "The First Order Moff Council has confirmed in an exclusive to the Camden Media Group that First Order forces were able to take control of the planet after destroying or driving offworld the pirates who had taken up residence here. Hoth, long a site for clandestine rebellions and criminal elements due to its remote nature and freezing cold temperatures, will now be patrolled by First Order forces. The surrounding space and asteroid field will be installed with beacons and sensors to alert defense officials should unauthorized vessels come near the planet."

The reporter's tone turned more optimistic. "The Foreign Office today confirmed the successful cooperation on defense exercises with elements of the New Imperial Order's armed forces, one more in a line of promising positive interactions with New Imperial counterparts. We will have more on that for you as the story develops. I'm going to send it back to you in the studio, Janis, once again this has been Lydia Finn-Camden bringing you a Breaking News Alert from the Camden Media Group Network. Good night."
