OUT OF CHARACTER INFORMATION

  • Intent: Another variant of the infamous MagnaGuard droid line.
  • Canon Link: MagnaGuard
  • Restricted Missions: N/A
  • Primary Source: IG-800 MagnaGuard
PRODUCTION INFORMATION
TECHNICAL INFORMATION
SPECIAL FEATURES
  • Limited lightsaber resistance
  • Limited blaster resistance
  • Limited electricity/ion resistance
  • Limited force power resistance
  • Duramentium-turadium alloy chassis/frame
  • Advanced combat learning programs
  • Advanced servomotors
Strengths:
  • MagnaGuard Design: This model stays true to most functions the MagnaGuards of old were capable of performing, able to engage force-users in close combat and hold their own. Simply cutting a limb or head off won't stop it either, as the back-up system in its chassis allows the Super MagnaGuard to keep functioning. While it may be a bit slower than the 800 model, due to its heavier armor plating, the advanced servomotors it uses to move still allow the droid to achieve great reaction times during battle.

  • Heavy Defenses: The IG-850 Super MagnaGuard sacrifices speed and agility, instead opting for a more brute force approach. The droid body is made of an expensive duramentium-turadium alloy, which is then plated by duranium that has been coated in liquid agrinium. This model can take a lot more damage than the IG-800, able to completely tank the average blaster pistol bolt, and requiring great strength to slice through with a lightsaber. If that wasn't enough, these droids are deployed with woven Terentatek hide cloaks, providing them with a certain level of resistance to force-power applications.
Weaknesses:
  • Design: These droids weigh a lot, and are much less acrobatic and agile than their previous model. Closed environments may also restrict this model from performing to its full extent, due to its size. Anyone that has prior knowledge of the MagnaGuard's capabilities, such as the torso back-up system, can take advantage of these reused features.

  • Back-up system: If a slicer were to successfully hack the IG-850, they would find that the droid's main programming is significantly more protected than the back-up system. The back-up allows the MagnaGuards to continue functioning to the best of their ability, even when decapitated and maimed. If the back-up system were to be disabled, defeating the IG-850 would become much easier, as all that is needed is for the head to be destroyed.
DESCRIPTION

The IG-800 MagnaGuards had been received well all over the Fakir system, with wealthy crime lords and politicians alike purchasing them for their own personal protection. The MagnaGuard was fairly advanced, and thus expensive to produce. Wanting to experiment with other builds, the researchers at Holowan Laboratories began to draft up another MagnaGuard model, one that would have several defensive and offensive features removed. This made way for the Super MagnaGuard's weighty frame and extra plating, allowing it to take far more damage than the IG-800. Holowan wanted to produce the next step of the MagnaGuard droid line, something with more bark, still capable of a fearsome bite. The result was a slightly taller and bulkier droid, its design intended to intimidate those that have seen it.

Initial field tests yielded good results, with the 850 naturally being slower than the 800, but boasting a greater damage threshold. The custom made cloaks that extended downwards from its head were not simply for show, as a Terentatek previously slain by Lord Mettallum had been transported to Halowan, its thick leathery hide extracted in a lengthy process. With knowledge of the Terentatek hide's resistance to force powers, Holowan had fashioned several cloaks, making sure to set them aside for future orders of the IG-850 unit. At the end of the day, the 850 model was seen as variety, not a step up from the previous version. It sacrifices speed for durability, and is not as versatile in function as the IG-800. The production of Super MagnaGuards is very expensive, and those who order them can receive either one or two to act as personal bodyguards.

Under Review.

Functionality: The IG-850 Super MagnaGuards act primarily as personal bodyguards. Unlike the IG-800, that is capable of performing a variety of tasks, the 850 model does not use long range weaponry such as blasters, and is unable to fit in the average pilots seat or starfighter cockpit. Usually ordered in pairs due to their expensive cost, the IG-850 serves best against small groups of combatants, still able to be overwhelmed by greater numbers and firepower despite its defenses.

In the light of the submission having a basic and limited resistance to every form of typical damage I cannot accept Functionality as a weakness. It's designed for a certain style of combat against what I suspect are FUs. It's not entirely different from saying a shotgun is ineffective as a sniper rifle. We can keep this as is if you'd like, but is there anything else you can tell that would be a tangible weakness?

I understand, that weakness is in comparison to the IG-800, but it still does point out the limits out the droid. What would you say is acceptable as an alternative, or addition?

How about something to do with remote slicing? I don't see anything in the special features that states anything about cyberwarfare. Maybe a slicer with a computer spike could disable this thing or temporarily lock it up.
