Idris was born into the noble family of Voahan, a mix of Human and Kiffar genes. The news of his mother's pregnancy had come as a surprise. The couple had been married for many years without their marriage bearing fruit. It was something never spoken of, but their doctors had estimated that Idris' father was incapable of producing children. The child was nonetheless perceived as a most welcome blessing, their struggle forgotten. Idris grew up without siblings.

While not entirely neglected by him, Idris’ father was hardly present on account of being an active Sith, and so as a young boy he was left much to his own devices and the care of his mother and their servants. The nature of his birth assured that he grew up not wanting for anything. He received a top education, and as was tradition in his family he was given a warrior’s training.

Even in this life of excess Idris found flaws, particularly with his father. Everything material was in place, but Idris felt their core growing rotten. They behaved in the way that was expected of them as nobility, but they did not believe in it with any conviction. It was a charade, and the difference between them and the newly rich rising from humble beginnings was slimming. Adding to this impotence was the fact that his father had never risen above the rank of a Sith Knight. While he acted as if it was only a matter of time before he claimed the mantle of Lord, Idris was no longer the child with a blissfully ignorant belief that his father was strong enough to overcome anything. He was starting to drag on in age, and what he had not yet accomplished, Idris doubted his father would ever achieve. Fates would later prove Idris right, as he died an unglamorous death in some battle.

Bypassing both mother and uncle, either of which would’ve been seen as a likelier candidate to take over as head of the dynasty, Idris assumed the mantle for himself. His uncle was encouraged to back down and support Idris after rounds of intimidation and blackmail. Idris’ mother withdrew from public life on account of grief for her husband’s passing, and has since lived the life of a glorified prisoner. It would seem Idris had inherited his father’s abilities but luckily not his limited potential.

Publically Idris distanced himself from his father and cut ties with the Sith, and for the most part managing to sweep it under the rug or at least play down his family’s affiliation with the Dark Side religion. In reality, however, Idris was an avid follower. Fuelled by both his own vision of the ideal being as well as a hatred for the complacency his father represented, he vowed to take the Code and lessons of the Dark Side more seriously. Occupied by his new public persona as the head of his family and the ambition of establishing his own business empire, the young man began to lead a secret double life, as both Idris of House Voahan and Arsaces the Sith.
