SPECIAL FEATURES
Strengths:
  • Crossguards.
  • Due to non-dimetris circuitry, it cannot be shorted out by cortosis, only blocked.
  • Due to a modular setting, the blade can soar in cutting power. It ranges from being that of a simple training sabre to powerful enough to rend and melt through Beskar, Phrik and several other normally lightsabre resistant materiels with relative ease. This also makes it easier to cut overload power-glands in Yuuzhan Vong biots. In addition, it can cut through normal materiels at a faster rate than a standard lightsabre.

Weaknesses:
  • Use of the maximum setting renders the blade unstable. In that setting the lightsabre is more prone to shorting out. In this setting the weapon does not function underwater and can be shorted out by cortosis.
  • Ssi-Ruuvi ion paddle beams can only be deflected by a lightsabre if it has been specialy calibrated beforehand. It is unable to deflect blaster bolts while in that setting.
  • Lightsabres are weak at blocking conventional bullets (slug rounds etc.).
  • Hilt is tough, but can be destroyed or damaged by direct lightsabre strikes.
DESCRIPTION

For millennia, lightsabres have been the standard weapons of Jedi, Sith and various misc. Force-users from a myriad backgrounds and traditions. The reasoning is quite simple: They can deflect and reflect blaster bolts, thereby protecting the wielder against the standard ranged weapons of this Galaxy. At least unless the wielder in question is being swarmed by various blaster-wielding shooters. Furthermore, they can cut through most materiels and are awfully good at amputating limbs.

However, technology has marched on. In this day and age, guns that nullify or severely mitigate a lightsabre's protective qualitifes are rather common. Examples would be Bolters, Shatterguns, Ssi-Ruuvi Paddle Beamers, Railguns and so on and so forth. Furthermore, metal alloys such as beskar, phrik, ultrachrome etc. are commonly used by elite forces of various galactic governments and corporations. While they do not grant immunity, they have a high resistance to lightsabres.

As an Angelii, Kaida Taldir was trained in the use of the traditional melee weapons of the Eldorai's elite troops, namely a Sarix blade and a Sarzmigar polearm. While she continued to use these weapons after being exposed to the greater Galaxy, she also took an interest in lightsabres. She built her first one during her time as a Corporal in Omega Pyre, and continued using it after returning to the Angelii. In battle, she utilised a hybrid style that merged her old training with the new, often using a battle shield alongside a lightsabre. This served her well in several battles, such as on Skor and on Thyferra. After she recanted her Angelii oath and joined the Eldorai Exiles who sought to build a new future for their people outside of the confines of the Monarchy, she decided it was time for a new weapon. Setting aside the desire to start a new chapter in her life, there were practical reasons for it, as outlined above. Her old sabre had been very old school and while it had served her well throughout many battles, it was time to upgrade her arsenal a bit.

Her new weapon is a reflection of her personality. For it is a practical tool that is supposed to help her slay her enemies. She does not entertain fanciful notions about it being a 'more elegant weapon for a more civilised time'. The hilt is decorated with Eldorai runes. These are completely mundane, but display the wielder's heritage. A Faraday cage around the electronics provides limited resistance to ionic attacks. Thanks to a bifurcating cyclical ignition pulse, it can function underwater. To increase hand protection and give her some options in melee combat, Kaida added crossguards. The Sarix had crossguards, so this was how she was used to fighting. The dual-phase setting allows the frosty elf to play with the blade's length, which can potentially give her a reach advantage in combat.

Ice Fang has been modified by Kaida to give her more options against opponents who utilise lightsabre-resistant materials for their armour and/or weapons. As she noticed herself, these have become increasingly common in the Galaxy. To elaborate, the weapon possesses a secondary energy source in form of a small amount of Isotope-5. It is located below the primary powercell. It can sustain a power cutting blade for any amount of time. Using this feature, Kaida can make the blade soar in cutting power. However, this comes at a cost, as she risks destabilising it. The weapon draws a large amount of power from the energy cells. This goes far beyond the standard and reduces its battery life to a considerable degree. As a result, Kaida has to be careful as to how many times she uses the blade at the highest power setting.

On the one hand, the lightsabre can cut through lightsabre-resistant materials, including Beskar and Phrik, with greater ease. This also extends to Vong biots. Penetrating Ultrachrome is more difficult in comparison due to its heat dispersal qualities, but still easier than when trying with a conventional lightsabre. This is obviously in combat with enemies using amphistaves, electrostaves, beskads and so on. It is generally unable to cut through items enhanced via Sith Alchemy though, unless they are very simplistic and possess only basic resistance to lightsabres. On the other hand, using the highest setting renders the blade unstable. It is more prone to shorting out due to electrical surges and ionic interference. Moreover, in this setting the blade cannot be utilised underwater. It also becomes vulnerable to being shorted out by cortosis despite the use of non-dimetris circuitry, which on the normal setting means that the blade can only be blocked, but not shorted out. Furthermore, blaster bolts deflected by the sabre bounce off a lot more randomly.
