“One day it can be yours.”

The monolith that was the Throne of the Sith boldly captured their eyes. A monument to the Dark Side, an Icon of Evil, a symbol of POWER.

The Dark Father stood close to his daughter, eyes shifting to her with his most terrible glare. A face filled with dark grimace, a menacing smile renowned for it’s haunting visage spreading from ear to ear in a sickening curl.

“It is your destiny, here with me.”

A sudden flash of brilliant light, roaring thunder flooded through the chamber and crackling lightning followed in a sputtering retreat throughout the enormity of the Sith Citadel’s amphitheater.

The Dark Lord’s hands rose from his tattered robes illuminated by the sinister brilliance.

“As a Sith.”

Jem couldn't feel her feet. If you asked her she would have said she left them behind, on the roof top where she had been cornered. Her graying complexion had not recovered. She stood at her father's side with a rigid back and felt nothing but the fear she tried to keep squashed down.

Dagon had been left one clue-- a black and gold saber left laying besides the false bomb she had been sent to undo. She didn't know if he would get it, but it was all she could do to avoid disappearing without a trace.

"The fact that you're still alive probably means something."

She wrapped her arms around her core and met her father's gaze.

"You want me to be your protégé," she echoed, emotionless.

“What I want is irrelevant.”

The Dark Lord, Kaigann Fossk, approached the throne slowly ascending the stone stair. He halted just before the ancient edifice, pressing his hand against it’s smooth surface.

“Come, daughter.”

His gaze shifted as his body turned, facing his daughter with locked eyes glistening in the dark.

“Take a seat.”

WherewasDagon.

She glanced behind her, hoping against reason to see a whole crew of him pile in kicked down the door. The hope caught in her chest. He wasn't here, nor did she really want him to be. He would just get himself killed... and then she would be right back to where she started-- trapped, her father angry.

try a different approach, then

She took a staggering step towards the throne that seemed to matter so much, her eyes locked on his twisted gleam. The whole area radiated darkness like an oppressive wave and he stood like a conduit to it all. How could she ever reach him inside of that?

Everything started to appear a little hopeless.

Keep him happy. Ishida Ashina Ishida Ashina 's words broke through her like a voice of reason, taking on a life of its own. It couldn't be real and she knew it, but it was a spark in her chest that chased away the shadows.

"I'll do what you want, on one condition. You leave my friends alone."

The Sith’ari chuckled under his breath in amusement. Even now, here, in the beating from heart of darkness his daughter was willing to do anything for her fellow Jedi, for her friends.

“You are not in a position to make deals.”

His right hand folded outward in gesture with eyes like piercing daggers honed in on her.

“Take. A. Seat.”

Jem's lips pursed into a tangible pout, his sharpening tone sending a healthy dose of adrenaline through her veins. Her protests were held back and she just glared back up at him.

If she had been raised as his child, she might have been more bold. But she only knew the darkness in him, and she only knew what he did when he was angry.

Keep... him... happy...

She bid her time and lowered herself into the seat, her lips parting for a daring quip that never had the chance to be spoken.

The moment the cool metal brushed her skin, the veil between her and the darkside ripped away. She gasped, her back going ridged as she fought against the wave dragging her under. Beacon of light? Ha. She was a flickering flame amidst a thundering storm. And it was trying to

snuff

her

out.

The Dark Voice watched as his flesh and blood sat within the confines of the throne, an act of appeasement. He detested the thought, but that’s exactly the mindset he sought to free her from. The Jedi had instilled within their ranks the need for obedience and the very chains they would shackle themselves with empathy.

He knew firsthand, he was once one of them, a Jedi.

“Good.”

The moment she was fully seated he could feel the connection bridge between her and the Dark Side itself. A monolithic wave of crashing darkness from the source, a sickening storm threatening to swallow her, drawing her in.

“Remember who you are.”

His voice faded, the surroundings of the amphitheater bleeded from view. Darkness. Emptiness. Alone.

She was alone.

There was nothing but the empty void and the distant sounds of crashing waves. A storm, a tempest that was the Dark Side.

Flash!

The void shifted, flooding with brilliant light. Screams, so many screams and cries out for help. Familiar voices, distant faces passing by. It all came to a close with one event, one beginning.

Flames flickered over the silhouette of a distant manor. A shriek filled the air as a crimson saber crackled to life. There was nothing stopping her from meeting her doom.

Jem’s Mother.

The saber cut through flesh and bone, her mother's skin going dull the moment life left her body.

"No!" Jem's shriek rang in sync, her hand extended helplessly as a head hit the ground.

Her mother's head.

She could only quake as the body swayed, then crumped in place, detached from the face she remembered now. She had seen this all in a dream, only it hadn't been a dream... it had been been her life. She could hear her brother's cries as rough hands tore them back-- toddlers stolen from their home-- toddlers forced to watch their mother die.

She remember it now.

She fought against the hands, struggling without effect to reach her mother's fallen form. But there were no hands, just her mind paralyzed by the vision and the grief the power feed on. It was all the darkside needed to seep in-- the cracks past her defenses.

She screamed again, a pulse of darkness battering off her.

The pulsating wave reverberated out, ravaging the landscape in a tidal wave of emotion. The figures immediately peeled away, their dark silhouettes becoming bright tan and brown robes. They stumbled and fell, succumbing the worst of the shuttering wave of palpable darkness.

Do they not deserve redemption too?

The air shifted, swirling like a tempest as the land broke apart into fine ash revealing a layer beneath of what appeared to be the New Jedi Temple on Coruscant.

Sort of.

Elements of the Jedi Temple were foreign, strange relics of the past. A snapshot of the Jedi Temple during the Sacking of Coruscant by the One Sith and.. the all too familiar temple she knew when the New Sith Order had come much much later. A young man knelt alongside her, his face full of doubt and dread, covered in the ash of his comrades as everything burned around him.

A young DARKCOM DARKCOM looked up, eyes glossed over.

“Just like me.”

A sudden look of fear, he crawled back as a figure approached from behind Jem. A silhouette of robed figure, it advanced without caution or worry. The unmistakable aura of the Dark Side oozing from their person. The flickering flames gave illumination as they closed in, revealing the face of Jem herself. Eyes bright light her father’s.

“We can finish what he started. The galaxy will be a better place.”

Hiss-crackle-pop!

The Sith-that-is-Jem brandished a crimson blade from her right sleeve and rose her hand high into the air. It was only a fleeting second before she dropped the weapon like a hammer blow aimed for the two of them down below.

She surged forward, out of the chair, her arms extended to block the blow to her father. Not a sith lord-- nor The Sithare-- but her father. The jedi. Her flesh and blood. She braced for the blow, prepared to do anything to save him.

The saber cut through her, her form dispersing and regathering without injury. She stood frozen, her stomach dropping as she heard a sizzling echo from behind her. She turned, her desperation dying to dread as she watched a line of molten lava draw across her father's body. His torso separated and fell with unquestionable finality.

"No!" The pitch reverberated, containing waves of anguish that battered at the chamber walls. Cracks formed and dust rained down from ahead. Jem turned to face the version herself, yellow creeping into her eyes. She dived, driving the attacker to the ground and smashing her head into the stone with her own hands. Again and again.

As if that would change anything.

As if that would bring her family back.

The illusion faded, the distorted reality settling in with the real as her surroundings gave way to what was. Lifted from the throne by her own measure, the daughter had cast herself upon a shrouded servant. A Sith cultist, a disciple of the Church of the Dark Side. One of many.

The head of the meager faithful crashed into the ancient duracrete again and again. The Dark Lord knew not what challenge or visions the Dark Side had shown her, but he did know the potency of such raw connection. Dust did indeed roll down from the shattered stone, the lifeless body of the robed acolyte fell still.

The Sith’ari approached his daughter, slow and purposeful.

Taking the life of another can be hard if you're sincere. It is a burden you take upon yourself, an act of selflessness. To face unending emotional pain, agony, to gain the power to create peace and order for billions of total strangers.”

He stopped just short of his daughter and kneeled down.

“That is the sacrifice we make. To be vilified by others, by people you know and care for, and for your personal sacrifice to be totally unknown. You must be the monster, be the one who steers the galaxy and does what needs to be done. The galaxy is dying, being a hero won’t save it. Only by killing the cancer that infects it can we save it.”

Kaigann looked upon Jem and extended his hand.

“Come with me. Daughter.”

He was right.

To kill you had to lose a piece of yourself. Her father thought the problem with the galaxy was the current way of things. Jem looked up, her teary gaze meeting the burning depths of her fathers, and saw the cancer as only one thing.

Him.

She raised her bloody fingers and placed into her father's outstretched grasp. Acceptance descended upon her like a numb blanket, wrapping her up as her resolve fell into place.

"I understand now," she told him, steal in her voice as she rose to her feet. "The galaxy needs real action. And sacrifice." She cleared her throat, grief bubbling up before it could be swallowed back. She was going to lose everything for this. Whatever way it panned out, this was the end for her.

She could only hope that Dagon would understand. ... Probably not.

She breathed the emotion out and found his gaze, certain of one thing. Her father was dead. She would stop what took him. No matter the cost to her.

"I'll join you."
