SPECIAL FEATURES
  • Hyperweave is a remarkably versatile fabric created woven molecule-by-molecule on the nanoscale level. The end result is resilience worthy of being considered armour even in thin, silken sheets - and with no loss of comfort. Hyperweave is flexible and fantastically soft, yet stiffens to absorb blows as they land, stopping bullets in their tracks and making vibroblades slide off - usually without bruising to the skin beneath.
  • Hyperweave regulates temperature remarkably well. A thin turtleneck can retain heat better than arctic survival gear - or disperse heat better than going naked, especially in sunlight. It even blocks harmful radiation nearly twenty times better than lead by volume! Similarly, the fabric is generally produced in such a way that it doesn't absorb water and cannot be sullied by the vast majority of stains or contaminants.
  • Hyperweave is programmable; it can be produced to change colour or hardness and even expand or retract in response to stimuli, usually an electrical signal sent by electronics. It can even be made compatible with the Force, allowing Force Sensitive users to alter its properties with mental commands. Similar feats are possible for cyborgs (assuming they possess the right implants) and specially-trained shapeshifters.
    • It is possible to produce a Hyperweave suit, dress, or similar garment that can 'cocoon' the user's body on command, covering their skin to protect it from contaminants; air molecules can be filtered through the fabric to keep the user breathing.
    • Hyperweave can shift to resemble various materials; silk robes and jeans are equally possible.
STRENGTHS & WEAKNESSES
  • Quality Over Quantity: Hyperweave is comfortable, customisable, and more resilient than durasteel - it is the ultimate material for those who refuse to compromise where their safety and comfort are concerned. While able to stop a bullet or blaster bolt in its tracks, Hyperweave is not and is not marketed as superior to comparatively expensive armour - a phrik cuirass is obviously orders of magnitude stronger.
  • Disintegration Cascade: Due to a quirk of its unusual atomic makeup, disruptors 'resonate' through the fabric - while this means that the wearer could conceivably be unharmed by a centre-of-mass hit, it is more likely that a glancing hit makes their entire attire disintegrate.
DESCRIPTION
Developed as an in-house alternative to Polyweave, Hyperweave is similarly created by 'spinning up 'nanofabric' latticework on the molecular level', a process that is quite incomprehensible to the average consumer. The end result is difficult to contest, however - it is comfortable, resilient enough to stop a bullet or even a lightsaber strike, and sturdy enough that attires are likely to outlast the wearer unless regularly worn into battle.

A thin turtleneck with nothing beneath can shield the wearer from arctic cold (assuming the rest of the body is similarly covered - please do not try to survive Hoth in only a turtleneck because you misunderstood an ad); a partially see-through dress able to stop a lightsaber in its tracks (at least for a while - please avoid sustained contact); a bathrobe able to cocoon the wearer to protect them from a nearby dirty bomb.

There is almost no limit to the forms this miraculous fabric can take. Is it the perfect material, then?

Not quite. For one, it is egregiously expensive (would you like a new airspeeder or a new suit?) and notably less protective than similarly expensive armour, e.g., phrik battle armour or proper beskar'gam. A more niche issue is that hits from disruptors 'resonate' or propagate throughout any one contiguous piece of Hyperweave, usually disintegrating the whole - yes, a glancing hit to your billowing cloak can disintegrate your entire attire.

As a wise fashion designer once said, no capes.
