Hurt

WHAT IS HURT?
Hurt is an up and coming Syndicate thread that takes a step away from the conventional criminal roleplay. Most of the time when people think of criminal RP they think of grand city settings and shady planets like Nar Shaddaa, Coruscant Undercity, Nal Hutta etc etc, but that's what we want to defy in this thread. We want to tell more of a fringe western than a gangster ballad, and we have found the perfect setting and theme for it. We want to tell the story of a broken over the hill hero who is struggling to make the right choices in a galaxy filled with greed and malice. Someone who has fallen on hard times and have lost their faith in humanity and the inherent goodness of people. But we also want to be flexible in the outcome of whether that hero returns to the light or falls and sees no choice but to resort to committing evil in the name of the greater good. We will of course be pulling for that cinematic feel when it comes to roleplay by focusing on individual characters and their interactions with one another. More plot focused characters will have more posts and lines of dialogue to develop the story and plot, and more minor and supporting characters will help flush out those scenes and themes by contributing to the story in smaller ways. In my honest opinion a great story is built off these minor characters and the interactions with the protagonist of the story.

HURT'S PLOT
Yutan. Ever since the fall of the Republic the once proud planet had fallen on hard times. Economic collapse had devastated the planet forcing most to flee to other planets to find new sources of income, but hard times didn't stop there. When at its weakest the darkness struck and enveloped Yutan in its unholy snare. The taint of the darkside and the final fall of the Jedi's sanctuary on the planet has spread corruption that is now deeply rooted in the planet. What locals call "The Blight" has killed crops, forests, and has reduced the majority of the green planet into dead harsh badlands and sweeping deserts. Life on Yutan is tough, but it's story isn't done yet. Our plot centers around a beaten and aged Jedi who has seen war and death and has either stayed on Yutan or is there in exile. A person who is broken to their core beliefs and just wants somewhere quiet to live out the rest of their days and die. Though their story does not end here. Acting as the main antagonist, Syndicate who is now looking to expand its grasp into the Jedi themselves will be acting as the antagonists in this story, they will of chased down and caused a young Jedi youngling and knight (played by any volunteers) to crash on the planet. Syndicate's goals are to capture the child and brainwash them into serving Syndicate in secret as they grow up through the Jedi order infecting others until they subsequently own an entire generation of Jedi sleeper cells. That's Syndicate's goal in all of this.

But we want our protagonist to get roped into this and help the two escape the planet and the reach of Syndicate. Though it won't be easy. Yutan is now a planet that despises Jedi viewing them as failures and war mongers that brought the Sith to their doorstep. So not only will our lead have to get them through this, but fight Syndicate as well until they reach the local space port to send off the youngling and their master.

GENERAL THEMES AND FEELS
When it comes to Hurt, we want to channel a big fringe and western vibe to it. Films like 3:10 to Yuma and The Good the Bad and the Ugly really play a heavy hand in this. But we also draw a lot from other sources as well. We want to have this more fringy post apocalyptic sci-fi feel to it like the comic Old Man Logan or westerns like Jonah Hex. To best explain it when doing Dead to Rights we really wanted to keep that experience uniquely Star Wars while blending it with various themes from action movies. However here for Hurt, we want to completely pull away from Star Wars. We want to immerse these Star Wars characters in a gritty, dark, fringe environment that tells a plot about heartache, hopelessness, violence, and trying to regain faith after being broken to the core. Now I might get in trouble for doing this, but as we all know Chaos is PG-13. Now while I'd love to make this roleplay a hard R rating, I can't. But we are going to push the limits of that PG-13 rating. This means intense brutal action sequences, possibly some mild language, and a lot of adult themes. Now I don't mean nudity or anything intensely sexual, but we'll be dealing with a lot of adult based themes not suitable or particularly seen in the Star Wars universe. Themes like existential nihilism, suicide, and deeply rooted depression on a fundamental level. So if any of these subjects make you uncomfortable, we recommend you don't join this thread.

WHAT WE NEED FROM YOU
This is probably going to be a bigger thread than Dead to Rights, so we'll be needing a few things. Before you get into this thread we ask you that you can be an active writer and be able to at least post once a day and can post more than one paragraph. That's what we need out of the gate. Now when it comes to leading roles we need our protagonist, we need our broken Jedi. We'll also be needing a Jedi youngling. I can't stress to you that we are looking for a youngling and not a padawan, we want to be able to be able to destroy that inherent goodness and innocence of childhood by forcing this character to see what the fringes of the Galaxy is like, and to put them in a situation where they will need to fight and potentially kill to survive. We'll also be needing a Jedi knight to be escorting this kid. Now when it comes to bad guys, we at Syndicate have that covered. But we will be needing at least one Cad Bane style bounty hunter to track down our targets and help create more tension with either a epic showdown between them or the bounty hunter deciding to help our protagonists instead. We want to be flexible with these characters and plots. Now if you're interested in a cameo or other minor role then just say so and we can hook you up to the best of our ability.

THREAD DATE AND TIMELINE
Hurt won't be happening for a while. We still need to flush out the finer elements of the plot and first get through Dead to Rights. This thread is primarily here to just get people's reactions and to see if you like the idea of it. So if you do give us some feedback or just show some support with a like or a comment. Or if you want to be involved in the making of Hurt and we can plan out a role for your character ahead of time. And if you are the type of person who likes a really story driven faction, please join us. We do this kind of stuff all the time.

Almost makes me wish I'd waited for this thread instead.

Anyhow, assuming Sal is still alive I'd enjoy playing a supporting role in this. Rub off some nihilism onto the protagonist.

[member="Sal Katarn"] I'd love it if you were in this thread as well. If you're alive of course, which I hope you are lol. A good supporting role would be pretty tight.

Did someone say nihilism?

That being said, assuming I get a proper body constructed (and a decent picture outside this temporary one to signify, you know, the lack of body)...

I'd be intrigued to join in, especially considering the *entire point* of this particular character is his intense desire to die a meaningful death might blend well with the themes. Though I admit I'm unsure how exactly a glorified librarian AI is going to mesh if a body isn't constructed in time.

Though the body will probably be there. Probably.

[member="Miss Blonde"] Sounds like a really cool storyline. I'd love to play a part in this thread as well. The dark and gritty setting will give me a chance to really develop my character and write him like how I originally intended. Recently I've found myself writing him off as some happy-go-lucky criminal trouble-maker, but this seems like the perfect chance to write him with a more serious tone and really flesh out the kind of person he really is.

Perhaps I can play a recurring role in this one?

EDIT: I'd also be willing to create a new character to play the Jedi youngling. Would be a great way to start off a fresh character.

[member="Myles Vylumnar"] It all depends on what you want to do, I'd love to have you either or. Myles or the Youngling, but we can certainly see about setting you up in a more recurring role this time around.

[member="Vigil"] I'm about to pass out while I'm writing this so I'll certainly wrap my head around where to place an AI trying to die in the morning lol

[member="Miss Blonde"], what role will you be playing in this? Also, is that bounty hunter role still open? I'm hungry. If so I call it, as there is sure as hell not enough room for anyone else to tag along. Cad Bane never had a sidekick, so I wont.
