- Shield's Bane: Energy bolts shot through a Hurrikaine Crystal Lense are able to pass through weak to moderate shields while doing devastating damage to double-layered shields or particularly large or powerful shields.
- Excessive Heat: The more energy that passes through a Hurrikaine Crystal Lense the more heat is generated. Excessive or continuous use usually causes the lense to crack from the heat stress causing it to be ineffective or even potentially explode. Thus the Hurrikaine Crystal Lenses are useful for slow-firing weapons but not rapid fire weapens such as beam weapons or repeating blasters.
- Wavelength Weakness: Should the secret of the helix-bolt, that is central to the Hurrikaine Crystal Lense's devastating firepower, be discovered shields could be built or reprogrammed to create a frequency which could untangle the helix and make the bolts ineffective.
- Delicate Structure: The Hurrikaine Crystal Lenses are remarkably thin and incredibly delicate. A direct hit or sudden impact against the weapon they're being housed in can cause the lense to break, making the weapon inoperable.
After being acquired by Mandal Hypernautics HMC was put to work attempting to find a way to transfer the shield-destroying properties of Hurrikaine Crystals, first observed in light saber weaponry, to blaster weapons. At first the weapons R&D team focused on replicating light saber technology, using the crystals as a focus to alter the effects of a blaster's XCiter. This, ultimately, had devastating effects usually destroying what ever prototype it was implemented into as the energized gas within the XCiter would interact with the Hurrikaine Crystal creating an explosion of devastating energy. Many other prototypes were attempted, but ultimately they settled on using the Hurrikaine Crystal as a lense.
By machine-precision carving the Hurrikaine Crystals into the correct shape for the prismatic crystal housing within blasters it allowed the excess energy of the beam of particles and light from the XCiter interacting with the crystal to be vented outwards. When the particle and light beams pass through the Hurrikaine Crystal Lense they are shaped by the crystal's unique crystalline structure into a helix-shaped purple bolt which deflector shields found difficult to diffuse or absorb. While the beam simply looked like a purple blaster beam with the naked eye, the helix beam looked very different under microscopic observation. Because of the excess energy created through the process of refining light and particle beams into a helix beam, the lenses were incapable of producing coherent beams such as in a Proton Beam Cannon or within a Lightsaber as the excess energy would quickly begin to melt surrounding metal and crack the Hurrikaine Crystal Lense.
