STRENGTHS

DESCRIPTION

Perhaps one of the deadliest (and technologically-complex) sidearms ever created, this weapon was commissioned for the use of Colonel Darren Konrad, at his exact specifications.

Surprisingly for a weapon carried by a trusted lieutenant, the Rejoinder is unornamented, minimalist, and utilitarian in its design. Despite this unassuming appearance, the materials used in its creation are second to none, including staggeringly-rare Helixium with a Shiftsteel finish. It can be dropped from great heights, subjected to significant damage, or liberally used as a club, and retain more or less full function. Likewise, it rarely (if ever) requires regular maintenance, and can gradually recharge its own magazines, though the slow speed of this process ensures the user is nearly always better off simply reloading to a fresh one in the midst of combat.

The pistol's damaging mechanism is a two-stage one. When the trigger is pulled, the weapon launches a short-ranged beam of meson-disrupting energies. These cause no damage as such on their own, but can render a target's chemical structure momentarily unstable. The second stage (fired a split-instant later, with little enough delay as to be functionally instantaneous) is a ray of focused, incredibly destructive microwave radiation. In essence, it is an ingenious (and incredibly costly) miniaturization of Helix's starship-grade pulse-masers, albeit using a secondary stage more similar to the operation of the K96 Silencer.

If all functions as intended, the target's armor (or flesh) may be rendered pliant and ineffective right before the microwave-beam impacts, typically disintegrating flesh and explosively-vaporizing bodily fluids.

Given the quasi-ephemeral state of this weapon's "projectiles", they are neither feasibly parryable with a lightsaber nor simply absorbable with most man-portable forms of armor.

As such, this weapon's effects can be as lethal as they are flashy and intimidating. Though achieved by different means, its effects are similar in nature to that of Disruptor weaponry, and a direct, center-mass impact can leave very little intact matter by which to identify its victims.

Tougher materials, such as light vehicles or large creatures, often fare little better. The weapon's energy output is enough to turn most metals into bubbling molten goo, and usually won't stop before it reaches the crew. Nonetheless, the Rejoinder's opponents will fare better behind cover, as the weapon can still take several shots to bore through armored metals. This is time the weapon can ill afford, as its short range, slow firing rate, and exceptionally poor magazine capacity ensure that the user had better make every shot matter.
