[HR/Jedi] And the Livin’s Easy

And a touch of the blues
Kattada was a Mid-Rim paradise world. Tropical, atolls, warm ocean, cool sea breezes. It didn't make for the best training location, if anyone wanted to learn how to actually survive in the wilds, but it did make a good world for living, and practicing their own knowledge in the Force and for exploration. But that was only what the Enclave offered to the Jedi as a whole. What they were doing today? What Vodet and Coren Starchaser agreed upon? Have a little open house.

Open the Tech Specialist and Consular rooms, the ExplorCorps map rooms. Show off a bit.

But more importantly was that they were working with the village of Tidehome. And that had many of the guests out on the beach, volleyball, grilling out, swimming, sailing, people could name it, and Kattada would have it offered.

Vodet knew that Jared Starchaser Jared Starchaser was here and out on the water, showing off some of the sailing vessels with the Witch Brooke Waters Brooke Waters , but he himself? He was standing at the main entry, under one of the thatch huts among the brick walkways. The Temple and the grounds were wide and vast, and open to all. What the Kattada Enclave was trying to do was give a decent welcome to the other Jedi traveling, specifically the ones coming from the High Republic.

There had been a few already arriving and the day was half over. Vodet was chatting to several of the Consular hopefuls, young Knights and older Padawans. "The Temple here is glad to work with so many Enclaves… Its good to see people enjoying it grounds…"

Come one. Come all.

Welcome to the Kattada Jedi Enclave. We specialize in explorers, tech specialist sentinels, and sentinels leaning towards consular.

The grounds are open for a great beach party. Enjoy each others company, the beach, the sea, and the small idyllic
village for some well deserved R&R with other Jedi.

Yasima had come to this tropical planet to explore the Enclave and she had done, it was interesting and it made her feel very comfortable considering her more rural upbringing. But this afternoon was time for her to let her hair down a bit. She had played beach volleyball with some older locals who were significantly better at it than she would have been without the force, but in the end she was glad to get out of that sand filled costume and do something else. When she had seen some local boys riding these canoes she knew that was what she was doing. Eshvika on Naboo was a lake side settlement so fishing was an important part of her community and everyone physically able to was expected to know how to sail. These boats were different to the ones that the Eshvikans and their Gungan hosts used but a sail boat was a sailboat and she found herself quickly comfortable with the simple rigging setup.

She was humming a tune to herself, something about the land and the sea when she hit a wave and felt the canoe briefly leave the water and come sailing back down abruptly. The grabbed the rope and leaned out onto the outriggers to stabilise the vessel and turn it into a less bumpy course. There was another couple of people out here on the water with her and she smiled as their boats came close enough that she could reach out and bump fists with the other rider (this could be you) the next challenge was over the reef, Yaz could see another small island in the distance that she had set as her target, it apparently had a population of unusual lizards that the local that had hired his canoe to her said she couldnt afford to miss.

You can do this!

The Jedi Pawan thought as he swam out further away from the shore, several others had followed suit and many had already been out here for hours.

Aiden had been training for this for a long time. A quick move, steady on the rise maintain balance and essentially go with the flow. Everything had to be perfect, maybe not completely but close enough. One was coming, he started to rise and then he laid back down as the wave passed over him. He laid on the board, calm and confident as the next buildup of the wave came.

The ascent.

"Alright." Aiden whispered as he stood up perfectly, keeping a good balance. "I'm doing it!" Aiden exclaimed, however he did not expect the wave to get as big as it had. And before he knew it he had a wipeout.

He swam to the surface, taking that first big breath of air and he started to laugh. He was just glad he wasn't the only one that was falling.

The Jedi was able to retrieve the board and try again.

While Yasima Zyntra Yasima Zyntra was busy driving the canoe, Voli was in the back placing her feet up on the raft. On Voli's lap, was a small book that she bought from a book owner while shopping in Theed. The history of Witches and Magic by: Lansen Taper was the title. Voli had been on the hunt for any signs of dark magic and occults essentially going back to her first love. Naboo was a quaint and lovely place but once again it was a picturesque place that was bereft of anything interesting. If anything, Naboo was too perfect not to dissimilar to the upper levels of Courscant that Voli's parents dumped her in. Like the people on the upper levels of Courscant, Naboo was isolated from pain, suffering which to Voli made them ignorant and out of touch to what other people endured in the Galaxy.

It also made them not want to tap into the arcane or the esoteric. From the time Voli spent on Naboo, she felt like she fell down a rabbit hole into a land filled with people oblivious to well..... everything. Voli didn't know whether she was going to die of boredom or just submit to her darker impulses and just practice dark magic in the streets. At least seeing the horrified expressions of the people would be amusing but of course Master Dreidi Xeraic Dreidi Xeraic would give her a lecture that would last for a future length Holofilm.

It was a miracle to find a book like this though, like in the Jedi Temple in Courscant, Voli isolated herself from her peers preferring to be alone, but Yasima whom Voli was acquainted with lately dragged her to go rafting. Grabbing her swimsuit, Voli might as well relax and try to enjoy the Sun even though the Sun's rays felt agonizing like she was on Tatoonine or something like that. The Padawan had a black straw hat, black sunglasses that she pressed up on the bridge of her nose, and a black bag with her Pre Built Lightsaber inside along with some sunscreen and other things for the Naboo river. Her Holopods were pressed firmly into her ears listening to the music as she slowly rocked her head back and forth reading her book.

"So far it's a bland read," Voli thought staring at the book. "I would've thought there could be some Naboo cultists somewhere."

The village had been the primary draw — swimming down through the iridescent bubble fields and walking through their market, perfectly safe despite the water all around. Tilon had spent years on Manaan, a waterworld, but the Selkath had a different undersea aesthetic and tech base. Wandering through Tidehome's submerged portions was a whole other experience. Like Naboo but less swampy. He'd even procured a few small bottles of purported witch elixirs, which he kept in a shoulder bag; otherwise, he wore only a swimsuit.

"Thanks for the hospitality, Master Vodet," he said. "It's a beautiful village. I feel like there are so few places I can relax."

A few of his peers murmured thoughtful agreement or alternate thoughts.

"You're with the New Jedi Order Service Corps, am I remembering that right?" he added to Vodet. "Or are the Jedi here Shirayan?"

A day at the beach was a great way to relax and the very pale Echani would have to apply strong sun protection to avoid burning since she was never going to be someone who have a beautiful tan compare to others. Her tanned was someone else's normal appearance, which made her chuckle. The warm weather felt pleasant and Lily was thrilled to see who else would be around and who she could talk with and spend the day enjoying the summer weather with. Lily was wearing a cyan sarong, humming to herself as she wandered the sandy beach. Feeling the hot sand against her bare feet as she walked.

Looking around, she spotted a couple faces she had seen around the temple on Naboo, giving a wave to those people before she set a towel down on the sand and sat down. Figuring it would be a nice time to bathe in the sunlight and enjoy that before attempting to wade into the waters. "Perhaps I should have brought a Lady Velvet novel with me...." Lily thought aloud to herself, thinking that reading a good romance novel while she sunbathed would have been the perfect way to spend the day.

Vodet affected something in his mouth that was essentially a smile. but from a large Yinchorri, it felt out of place. Hearing the praise for the village here, he knew that it wasn't for him, not completely. It was for the ones who really set that up. Master Starchaser and the Witch known as Token. Kattada and the village around were designed to be a place of reprieve for not only Jedi, but all light siders.

"Its our pleasure to host the gathered. A nice place to take some time off."

"As for my history. I worked as part of the ExplorCorps, and the AgriCorps. Not with the New Jedi Order, but more... with this enclave. And when Master Starchaser had to leave... I stepped to fill the role of caretaker. We do our best to remain a place for all Jedi and don't count ourselves into anything beyond the Jedi Network."

The Yinchorri had a full idea of what he was doing.

What they knew was that there was a treasure vault on Kattada. One that was rumored to hold so many interesting treasures for Jedi and things they didn’t want out in the opening.

The raiders came aboard an ancient Republic Venator. Held together by an aggressive team of mechanics. Drop ships were launching from the vessel, and sure long range scanners would pick them up. But it was a Jedi Enclave. And none of the pilots were worried about them having the right weapons to defend themselves.

It was the lightsabers. Luckily they had the counter to the Force.

Ysalamiri. Vong Amphistaffs. High yield explosives.

Not that they were going to strafe. They had morals. But the landers found themselves outside the Temple and readying blasters.

“Move. We need to get to the vault.”
Said the leader. A hissing Trandoshan with a small squad of battle droids.

"Sounds nice to me. I'm unaffiliated myself - haven't yet found an order to suit. I'll need to drop by this place more often when I'm in the sector..."

Tilon trailed off, squinting up through the wispy clouds of this beautiful sunny day.

Drop ships were launching from the vessel

But the landers found themselves outside the Temple and readying blasters.

Tilon did not make a habit of swimming with his lightsaber. It was in his little ship maybe twenty minutes' walk away. He had his shoulder bag with little bottles of newly acquired Blue Coral Clan draughts and elixirs. He clinked and shuffled past several bottles of Draught of Navigation and assorted others to the pricey one, the Elixir of Travel. Eyes on the landing dropships, he uncorked it, sniffed it dubiously, turned in the direction of his ship, and drank it down.

The beach and the temple rushed past and away in a sizzle of oceanic bluegreen. He found himself pinwheeling in the air a good ten meters up. He called on the Force to land well in uncertain sand and got his bearings: he'd overshot his landing site but was much closer to it than before. He hurried down to swap his shoulder bag for his lightsaber, sucking witch elixir aftertaste out of his teeth.

It wasn't always that the Arch Witch known as Token arrived at every settlement she worked with. But something about the day, something from Starchaser and Vodet stating they were inviting Jedi to the Kattada Temple and onto the steps of Tidehome. It made her curious and gave her a reason to come out of her travels and back to what she really saw as the capital of the Blue Coral Divers, and their galactic adventures. She was strolling the streets of Tidehome, her blue robes light and airy.

On her hip was her bag, and if anyone looked closely, the lightsaber attached was visible. She was a Witch but had once been among the Jedi. Their dogma was limiting but their mission statement made sense to her. A few of her Witches were selling the potions and draughts that they created. And others were helping people get acquainted with the sea, and touring the reef.

She saw the pirates. That was a surprise. She knew Starchaser was keeping strange things in the basement, but she didn't expect that someone was brave enough. Where was Kattada now, in the grand scheme… All these planets and routes moved… The blonde called on her magick, and all but melted away into the sea, coming up closer to where Tilon was, in one of the fountains.

Not super sanitary but necessary.

Moving her hands in a somatic pattern she hardened the water and telekintically flung it to the next arriving LAAT.

The elixir's passage left Tilon nauseated, armed, and in the presence of the most dangerous witch he'd yet encountered. He found all of this situation frightening. A vehicle got spiked by ice or high-pressure water in midair. Back the way he'd come, another had Jedi swarming it with lightsabers before it even landed. He looked at the saber in hi s hand and realized that, no matter how necessary the village's safety made violence, the raiders deserved sympathy for picking very much the wrong target today. He wouldn't add to their body count.

He popped back into his ship and came out with sets of manacles imbued with a Wall of Light echo, his father's creation. If they'd hold a Sith Lord they'd hold a pirate. He set out to catch some.

Ah poodoo, sand had gotten under her one-piece somehow. Now Casaana was trying to shake it out without being obvious about it in front of the visiting Jedi (especially that cool one with the white hair) while she walked through the surf. Looking out over the water, she considered going further out and swimming to get it out. Or she could just call it quits and change, maybe get a bonfire going on the shoreline? She thought she'd seen Tilon around. It'd be fun to catch up to him and show him around after Yavin.

A dropship whined through the sky and Casaana traced it back to a dagger shaped cruiser. Her heart rate spiked, Sith? Wait, it actually looked similar to that ancient Republic ghost ship she'd once explored. Ironically, with a Sith Lord and the troopers he'd lent her. The Lilaste were weird, but this wasn't that one either. A second dropship flew by as the first landed by the above sea portion of her beloved temple. Something felt wrong, the surrounding Jedi were reacting with confusion, and a knot of worry began to form in the pit of her stomach. There weren't expected guests.

Sand be darned, she started running off the beach and inland through the scrub and island trees that clung to the sand with their bony roots, already circulating the Force through her body to keep her endurance up. Casaana trusted the Temple Guards and the local Planetary Guard to keep the temple and its few secrets, but that didn't mean she shouldn't help.

Even at a dead sprint, it took her a few minutes to arrive at the old and much battered Quonset hanger she used to store her most prized possession, an emerald green Zephyr skyhopper she'd purchased second hand and fixed up. Flinging the door open, the little Jedi hit the controls for the big hanger door even as she rushed to pull on the grease-stained coveralls she'd wear when working on the little ship. Then she was stomping her sand-covered feet into her boots and never mind the laces as she was scrambling into the citrusy-jasmine and lavender smelling cockpit, an eternal reminder of spilled perfume, and began an abbreviated start-up sequence.

The beings were coming down and Vodet turned to look. He had so many Jedi here. Clearly the pirates didn’t get the memo. As Tilon had jumped… teleported? Away, Vodet looked to the others. “Seems we are under attack.” His voice and clip was slow. Steady. Understanding.

A small klaxon was in the distance. Not to light up the whole village and Tidehome, but just the Temple. It wasn’t one of the ancient mythic temples, it was modern, with the tools it needed to defend itself. Vodet had turned from the group.

“Perhaps you should take cover, unless you are fine with stalling these beings.”

The ships were coming in, LAATs and fighters flying low over the beach and sea. He could feel Jedi arming themselves, and seeing the Witches do what they did. Spells.

He continued to move towards the Temple door. Intent on getting to the vault.

Someone made a mistake. The Transdoshan captain of the carrier-corvette in orbit hissed to himself. “A big damn mistake.”

The scans showed colors of green and blue and yellow and purple. Lightsabers igniting. And what he knew to be Witches, only from the time he lost his arm, twice. They were a thorn in his side. But the Scaled Pirates had firepower. And more than just Trandoshans in their team.

“Attack at will. Cause chaos.”

The ships came speeding in, LAATs firing blasters at the Temple, seeing the red bolts bloom to purple splashes and fade into the blue of the energy field.

In short order Tilon found himself covered in sand, sloshing around in the shallows, wrestling handcuffs onto Trandoshans, doing his best to kill only when necessary, with scale-burn on all the skin his swim trunks left exposed, and wishing he'd made better choices in life from start to finish.

Only once he'd successfully cuffed a Trandoshan Elite ankle-to-wrist asymmetrically did he start getting some breathing room. That was actually more correlation than causation: the other witches and Jedi and Vodet Vodet and so forth were drawing plenty of attention themselves. He took the opportunity to pick up the Elite's very heavy ACP repeater, a weapon with a proportionately heavy trigger pull but simple, simple, simple functionality, and begin spraying the nearest LAAT's belly. He could start to see how some Jedi — not him, you understand, but some Jedi — might get used to this gun thing.

For whatever reason, Brooke had not expected to see one of the skyhoppers launching. Her brother had one once upon a time, more the T-16 variety than this one. He always said it was fun to buzz the girls taking the boats out on Pamarthe, and Chandrilla. The Waters family had a bit of coin, and they both survived on it. Then Brooke started to use her money and influence in a way to help those other Witches, and the One Who Dwells. Not that she was too aware she was doing that.

Maybe @Ashin was.

Still, as she took the water whip and hit the LAAT. It wasn’t quite ice, but definitely not just water. It was water with a purpose.

And maybe a little electric jolt.

What she didn’t expect was Tilon with a gun like that. Wasn’t he Quill’s kid? More mild tempered?

“Careful for that Skyhopper!”

As the ships kept moving, the larger corvette was moving into high atmosphere. It could at least throw down some fire, even if it was going to be random and light. The atmospheric airspeeders, V-Wing knock offs were starting to launch now that they were able to hit atmosphere as several of the LAATs touched down, releasing pirates; Trandoshans and Quarren mostly. Blasters and vibroblades at the ready.

One of the V-Wings, piloted by a frail soft-skin human was moving and chasing after the green skyhopper.

That was Paulie. He was aggressive, but not too bright.

The Scaled King shook his head as he moved away from the bridge to where the last LAAT was waiting.

As he boarded, he could see the V-Wing still in pursuit, triple-blasters firing and overheating, firing, and overheating as he closed range on the Skyhopper.

“Careful for that Skyhopper!”

Mildly aghast at his own audacity and also the onrushing tide of raiders, Tilon dropped the large gun. It was mostly empty anyway. The LAAT in question pancaked into the ocean and floundered in a recently ventilated way. He was fairly sure, fairly, he hadn't hit the skyhopper, but it really had been hopping quickly.

That onrushing tide dominated his attention rapidly. Fortunately, while his Quarren was poor, his Trandoshan was near fluency thanks to an ill-fated affair. Long story.

<No trophy here is worth your time!> he howled. <No trophy but me!>

He put his foot on the Trandoshan Elite he'd hogtied, flounced his iridescent hair for all he was worth and took off running down the beach away from town.

He was aggressively, perhaps single-mindedly, pursued.

"Hey now!" Casaana yelped as blaster bolts came streaking past her cockpit. She'd been hoping to get some shots off on the landing ships with her underslung heavy ion gun, not a dogfight! She twisted her little craft through the blue sky over the tropical paradise of her home like she had when playing 'keep up' with Braze Braze and angled towards one of the LAAT's while keeping an eye on the guy behind her. Checked her breathing, tried to calm her mind and act with purpose, not out of fear or indignation.

Swinging through a turn, she let loose with the heavy cannon, scoring ion hits on the unshielded craft that played merry-hob with its systems. Despite the invasion of her home, she didn't want to kill, and even through this likely left them falling from the sky, it gave the raiders the best chance of surviving. Albeit, pretty injured. Seconds later, more blaster shots spattered against her shield, bringing it down and sending an alarm blaring as Paulie closed in. "Finally," Casaana huffed, figuring he was close enough and well drawn into the chase.

She hit the Zephyr's air brakes at the same time her foot flipped the retro thrusters and the engine scoop swung closed, redirecting the full force of the light skyhopper's turbothruster forward. Even with the inertial dampeners, she was flung forward in her harness as her craft went from full forward to reversing in a near instant. With the V-wing in her sights, Casaana gave it the good news, opening up with her own quartet of wing-tip blasters as she sighted in the ion cannon and let him have that too.

Pulling back on the stick, Casaana did one of her flashier aerobatic maneuvers as she opened up the engine scoop for forward thrust, bobbing the Zephyr in a vertical stall over the beach as she flipped it 180 to go racing back towards the temple and the circling LAAT's.

As a Witch, she was afforded a whole lot of different goals and approaches to the galaxy. She understood the limits of the Jedi, and respected those that held to those limits. They just… weren’t for her. Still, this world, Kattada, was the first major settlement she assisted with, and was as much home as Pamarthe or Chandrilla or Dathomir to the blonde Arch Witch. The Skyhopper was one of the Padawans that frequented the world.

And that meant they were under her protection. Now Brooke wasn’t the type to go around and broadcast just what she could do, but everyone here knew that the Temple and a clan of water-based Witches inhabited the same space, in a decent peace.

If someone forgot? The Witches would more than happily remind the antagonists.

Another bit of somatic movements and chanting, and there was a small whirlpool under the V-Wing, almost following it, starting to rise up, but as the skyhopper closed in, Brooke waited to see what was going to happen. Should she have to catch a friend? Or douse the V-Wing…

It appeared to be neither.

She let the Force go for a moment, turning to Tilon.

“Do you need another potion to get back to the Temple?”
She nodded in the direction of the other landers.
