PRIMORDIAL ERA

In the beginning, two opposing forces clashed: Harmony and Discord. Their battles raged, unseen, throughout the pages of fledgling history. Where civilizations would rise and flourish, Harmony would reign supreme. Discould would chase Harmony to those worlds and infect the people. They would fight against one another, championing frivolous ideas such as Light vs. Dark.

Their battles came to a head one fateful day when Discord engaged Harmony in open combat. He tore her to pieces, casting out her eyes, heart, and limbs across the cosmos. Harmony mustered the last of her strength to banish Discord's power into the netherworld and sealed his body in a runed coffin.

Briefly, she believed that the war was won - but soon saw that Discord's ambitions were realized. The Galaxy now spiraled into a cycle of chaos. Broken, Harmony succumbed to her wounds, vowing to return should Discord ever return.

It was not until the modern day that the Galaxy learned of their true names: Medjai of Harmony and The Unmaker.

400 YEAR DARKNESS

During the height of the Gulag Plague, Naboo attempted to see if there were any worlds untouched by the Galaxy-wide pandemic. A colony ship called Veruna's Ascent was launched into the Southern Arm for this purpose. The Ascent lost contact with Naboo three weeks after departure and was considered a lost cause.

In truth, the Ascent passed through The Hollow - a perilous system plagued by hyper-storms. Damaged and stranded, the colonists managed to emerge from the Hollow and landed upon the first hospitable planet. They called this world Verun, after the vessel, and nammed the region Shiraya Expanse after the Naboo religion.

The colonists, unable to return to Naboo and unwilling to brave the plague-ridden Galaxy, settled on Verun. Over the centuries, their descendants spread across the region.

~700 ABY

The Expanse is a literal warzone, filled with numerous warlords. Their quarrels consume the region and many lives are lost daily.

On Verun, the Son of a Warlord is orphaned during a raid. Vowing revenge, he appeals to the suffering civilians to take up arms. Under his leadership, their band of commoners manage to overpower and topple those responsible for their father's death.

The Son then began to conquer, sweeping through the Expanse at a blinding pace. All opposing Warlords are eventually put to the sword. Now the supreme power of the region, he adopts the name Kaidu Khan.

Kaidu rules unchallenged until his passing. His realm, the sprawling Khanate, fractures as a succession crisis rips through the populous. Countless civil conflicts occur, reducing the Khanate to a shell of its former glory. To this day, the descendants of Kaidu raid and battle one another over the title of Khan.

~836 ABY

Cultists from the blood cult, Bando Gora, flee to the Expanse as their homeworld is destroyed by the Omega Protectorate. They, like the Ascent, fly through the Hollow and are assaulted by the storms. Unfortunately, they do not escape the region and take shelter on a world they dub Second Kohlma.

They discover the Unmaker's Coffin upon this world and unknowingly awaken the imprisoned being. He entices them with promises of power and coerces them into working towards his unbinding.

860 ABY

The Bando Gora, at the behest of the Unmaker, begin seeking out the scattered remains of Medjai. Using his old enemy's dormant might, he planned to break free of his prison. The cultists recovered one such remnant, The Eye, but were discovered by the famed Knights Obsidian. Their mission was foiled - but not before the Bando Gora used it to break the Unmaker's seal.

As a test of his newfound strength, the Unmaker unleashed his armies of netherworld beasts upon the Knights Obsidian, utterly decimating their numbers to a mere remnant.

867 ABY

The Bando Gora manage to locate two of Medjai's remains: her other eye and heart. The dig for the heart was found by the Knights Obsidian once again and their efforts were thwarted. This time, the cult could not awaken the Heart; and a remnant of Medjai's power released. She informed the Knights of her struggle against the Unmaker and implored them to stop him. This awakening also resonated with the vestige of her power - @Taiia Mataan - and empowered her to fight the Unmaker directly.

Unfortunately, the Bando Gora were successful in using Medjai's Eye. The Coffin was opened and the Unmaker returned. Feeling that Medjai lived through Mataan, he targeted the Knights' home nation - the Confederacy - for annihilation. His agents assembled a mighty armada of corsairs and slavers to help cut a path through the nation. This fleet was aided by the full force of the Unmaker's armies.

Every Confederate world was plunged into Chaos and the death tool reached the trillions. In the end, the Unmaker and Mataan met in open combat and was bested by his ancient adversary. Once more, he was banished from the world of the living. In the wake of his defeat, his armies and armada were scattered; and the Bando Gora fled back to Second Kohlma.

Though the death was astronomical, the Confederacy had "won." But, the recent refugee crisis, wars caused by sedition, and Unmaker assault broke their cohesion. The worlds decided to disband and survive independently - leaving what little remained of the government and refugees as a flotilla. The Confederate Remnant then wandered south of their former home, unknowingly entering the Expanse.

They landed on Verun and were immediately assaulted by the Khanate. What's more, some of their own, non-Human refugees betrayed them for the Khan. They attempted to assassinate the remnant's leadership in a daring suicide bombing. Though the attempt was unsuccessful, trust in non-Human facing beings plummeted within the Remnant.

THE FIRST AGE: PRESENT DAY (874 ABY)

CHAPTERS (LARGE STORIES)VERSES (SMALL STORIES)SYNOPSIS

Over the next seven years, the remnant and refugees established a formal nation: the Ascendancy. Due to the treachery of the non-Humans years prior, the nation yet distrusts the "xeno." Despite this, every man or non-Human can rise above their station by service to the empire. The Ascendancy yet battles the Khanate and has gained some ground - but the conflicts are far from done. Moreover, the Bando Gora still schemes from the Hollow, looking for the next opportunity to raise the Unmaker once more. Meanwhile, the Dominus of the Ascendancy has announced a new era for his nation. No longer would their people cower and simply defend themselves - they would extend their reach across the entire Expanse.
