High Flight (Jake Faron)

[member="Jake Faron"]

Poy sat in the ready room aboard the battle carrier Illustrious, which was now docked at the Galactic Alliance Navy’s homeport, waiting for their new pilot to arrive. He was a young kid straight out of flying school, and one of the best in his class. The door to the ready room opened and he stood there nervously in his freshly cleaned flight suit, with his nametag and zippers still shining bright; she would make sure that the flight suit became dirty, and well used, in time.

“Welcome aboard Illustrious!! I am Flight Lieutenant Luroon, Black Squadron,” she took his hand warmly and shook it in a friendly greeting, smiling at him; it was interesting to see how he would react around a battle-hardened veteran - many new pilots were nervous and would often make fools of themselves.

She stood up, and could see he was in awe of meeting a bona fide ace. “And welcome to your first operational squadron. I know you will fit in perfectly with us, and you will be introduced to the others, later on, but I’ve been tasked with training you in aspects of aerial combat tactics at the Alliance’s aerial combat training facility,” Poy’s second job, besides being one of the top X-Wing pilots, was helping to train all their new pilots in basic and advanced aerial combat.

The Twi’lek led the new boy from the ready room to a lift that would take the pair down into that hangar, where his own combat-tested and well-used Starfighter was waiting. Stepping into the lift, Poy pushed that button marked “H”, which stood for “Hangar” - the doors whooshed close and it went down in a hurry. It arrived at the hangar floor in several seconds and then opened up to reveal a hive of activity; mechanics were crawling all over X-Wing fighters and patching the fleet up after their last great battles against the One Sith and the First Order.

“Alright, let us go and have a look at your fighter,” Poy took him over to an old X-Wing, that she had flown on occasion, that was being handed over to him - this would be his personal steed in battle. It had several faded kill markings on the side, showing off the prowess of many of its former pilots in aerial battles.

“Isn’t she a beauty?” Poy said happily, remembering the fun times she had in this particular Starfighter, dodging those TIE Fighters and TIE Interceptors, as she threw it all over the sky. It managed to bring her home every single time, and she just knew that this X-Wing would bring Jake Faron home every time.

“Shall we get started?” Poy climbed up the ladder of her T-85 X-Wing, and put on her gaudy coloured helmet, which she had customised once she found it.
