The HEX Fragmentation Grenade is a rather ambitious armament crafted by Czerka Arms and is a modern-day update to a Classic design. At a glance, it is simply a fragmentation grenade composed of durasteel; however, there is much more underneath the surface. Upon pulling the pin and release, via throw or being fired by a grenade launcher, an explosion takes place which releases a deadly sum of shrapnel and durasteel fragments. In particular, the fatality radius of the fragments and shrapnel is five meters; with the injury radius being thirty meters. Of course, depending upon angle and other circumstantial factors, fragments and shrapnel can be launched to well over fifty meters. Yet, despite its effectiveness as a fragmentation grenade, the strength in the HEX armament lies in the vial of diluted trihexalon within its core. Upon detonation, a cloud of the chemical is released in a form reminiscent of green dust and is quickly dispersed about the immediate area. Specifically, the cloud of diluted trihexalon has an initial radius of five meters, but can quickly spread to a maximum of ten meters in a matter of seconds.
Trihexalon, as history has demonstrated, is an exceptionally deadly chemical that can cause complete biomass conversion within an organic being, thereby resulting in disintegration. Undiluted, a mere vial of the chemical can result in the death of at least three hundred organics. However, due to the monumental sum of legal restrictions upon the chemical, Czerka Arms was only able to procure a small sum of trihexalon. Due to this, its presence within each and every HEX grenade is vastly diluted; resulting in a cloud of gas that does not cause nay-instantaneous disintegration upon contact with the skin. However, the diluted trihelaxon still works through contact with skin or through inhalation. Upon entering an individual's system, the process of biomass conversion begins within the body. While far from being instantaneous, the sensation of one's internal organs, bones, muscles, and skin slowly, but surely, reducing to nothing is anexcruciating experience. By far, this process is dehabilitating, as the sheer level of pain coupled with damage to one's internal organ is not something that can be simply shrugged off. After several minutes, or even hours depending upon the size of the individual, complete biomass conversion occurs; resulting in disintegration.
However, Czerka Arms has developed a curative agent that can dispel the presence of the chemical within an individual. Known simply as Dehexalon, the substance is included with every order of HEX Fragmentation Grenades and instantly, upon being ingested or injected, causes the chemical's presence to disperse. From here, surgery and an extended period of time in a bacta tank can return a victim to normal; thereby leading to the grenade's popularity as an interrogation tool or means to capture a target. Dehexalon aside, the grenade is not without its shortcomings. First and foremost, the chemical is only effective if it is inhaled or if it enters the body through contact with skin. Diluted Trihexalon does not have the ability to seep through fabrics or metal, thereby meaning that the average individual is moderately protected; just from everyday wear. Second, if utilized against a Force user, a simple telekinetic breeze or a force-based barrier can more than effectively protect against the effects of the chemical. Furthermore, as aforementioned, the chemical does not eat nor seep through metals; thereby meaning that droids and electronics are not affected.
Despite these shortcomings, the HEX Fragmentation Grenade is exceptionally unique armament that would be an excellent addition to any combatant's armament.
