HYPORI SYSTEM, HYPORI
NEW E'Y-AKH, THE DEPARTMENT OF LAW

There was only the sound of fingers drumming impatiently on the desk to disturb the otherwise silent office. The Director of the newly minted Department of Law stared daggers into the bureaucrat seated across from him. The bureaucrat, in turn, shifted uncomfortably. It was never a good day for whoever got the short straw and had to give "unfavorable" news to Gerion. This was no different, particularly when the subject matter included a corporation that had apparently been razed by the One Sith- one of the largest in the galaxy -scrambling to take up a new residence in the Techno Union.

And then taking up residence in the Techno Union.

Without a word to the Techno Union.

"I'm going to relay what you have told me back to you, then you tell me if my understanding is correct." Gerion leaned back in his chair, folding his arms across his chest. "And then you can go."

The bureaucrat, nervous, spindly little Gran that he was, nodded eagerly. Anything to get out of here sooner rather than later.

"Titan Industries alleges it was attacked by the One Sith, so they announce they are relocating to the Techno Union while simultaneously placing a bounty on their abandoned facilities and any Sith who would attempt to stop the destruction of these abandoned facilities. Meanwhile, we maintain a military alliance with the One Sith... Correct?"

The Gran, named Jorveth, nodded.

"And prior to arriving over Roon and constructing their MegaTriangle..."

"Gigabox." Jorveth correct, impulsively.

"Whatever. Their Gigabox." Gerion rolled his eyes, 'Gigabox' leaving his mouth as if it left a poor taste there. "Prior to that, they contacted...?"

"No one, uh, sir."

"The Executive Council? The Foreman?" Gerion pressed, but the Gran only shook his head.

"The Obsidian Order? The Spynet? The Department of Security? Any department? Any Viceroy?"

For all this, Jorveth only had a negative response. Either a shake of the head or a muttered 'no.' Generally speaking, it was the Department of Law's duty to keep a look out for suspicious corporate activity. That is, in addition to suspicious activity from other branches of government to a degree. But this right now took the cake and required his full attention. A large, intergalactic corporation was currently prancing about the galaxy shouting about how it had made enemies of the One Sith and were relocating to Techno Union space. And they had done so without any actual dialogue between any branch or level of the Techno Union's government.

"I think you may be able to see why this is problematic."

Especially with the apparently non-consensual construction of UltraTrapezoids over the Techno Union's capitol planet. Normally Gerion may have flagged this immediately and moved on, but since this was Titan Industries and Gerion was more than happy to allow for an added opportunity to break up the Techno Union-One Sith alliance... Well, he was sure that whatever happened was just a delightful mistake. As soon as someone spoke with this Tefraxis fellow, it would be all cleared up. No one else seemed interested in taking initiative, so Gerion would opt for the duty himself. Then file his report and recommendation to the Executive Council accordingly.

"Go get into contact with Titan Industries. Inform them that their owner is expected to appear before Department of Law officials within a week. I'll be presiding over this myself. You're dismissed."

Grateful to be dismissed, Jorveth got up from his seat and shuffled off to do just that.

To: The Department of Law
From: Hyperion Consulting
Subject: Investigation Regarding Recent Events

We regret to inform you that one, Mr. Tefraxis Obauldi is currently in hiding at a mobile and secure facility of his choosing due to the real and obvious threat of assassination that he must currently deal with. Due to current events and obvious threats to his life, contact with one Mr Tefraxis Obauldi is currently impossible. Even we, his lawyers at Hyperion Consulting, are unable to contact one Mr. Obauldi at this time, but are more than authorized to represent our client in a professional and legally acceptable manner. If you would be so kind as to clarify as to the questionable activities you are referring to, Hyperion Consulting will gladly answer any and all questions within a period of three standard galactic weeks after we have thoroughly investigated the matter. Additionally, I feel I must remind one, Mr. Gerion Ardik that the galaxy is a large place. As a Neimoidian who calls the Outer Rim his home, I can personally attest that even the fastest ships often take days or weeks to travel distances that would take mere hours among the core worlds, as I am sure you are more than aware as a denizen of Hypori. As such, and due to the unknown location of one Mr. Obauldi, I must insist that the current deadline of one standard week be extended to three months. Furthermore, I do believe one Mr. Gerion Ardik is in error, as intergalactic law's standard statements on legal rights makes abundantly clear, the right to legal council and representation is unrevokable by any officially recognized government or agency. However, should the Techno Union wish to revoke its current recognition with the banking guild, I, one Mr. Guude Juu'louya, would be more than happy to facilitate a line of communication on your behalf, as my office neighbors that of the banking guild's primary headquarters.

We sincerely thank you for your time and look forward to working with you to clarify this and all matters pertaining to one Mr. Tefraxis Obauldi in an appropriate and acceptable time-frame and in full compliance with local and intergalactic laws.

From: The Department of Law
Subject: Investigation Regarding Recent Events

Salutations,

The Department of Law cannot recognize Hyperion Consulting as a representative of Mr. Tefraxis Obauldi if Hyperion Consulting, in its own words, is "unable to contact one Mr. Obauldi at this time." Representation and investigation are rather difficult affairs when a primary individual cannot be reached for questioning. When Mr. Tefraxis Obauldi appears before the Department of Law, he may do so with the accompaniment of his legal counsel. He will still be expected to answer all questions himself. The Department of Law does not call for individuals rather than representatives lightly. These are questions that must be answered by Mr. Obauldi himself, for it is not just the Department of Law that will be hearing and acting upon the answers given.

We are aware of the location of Mr. Obauldi. Roon is not more than a few days travel to Hypori. This is more than the allotted time frame. We cannot attest to having knowledge that Mr. Obauldi is anywhere but in orbit of Roon aboard the titled "Gigabox." We would be happy to adjust the time frame if he is located elsewhere, but seeing that Hyperion Consulting has not been in contact with Mr. Obauldi and cannot reasonably attest that he is elsewhere, we will have to wait for confirmation from Mr. Obauldi himself.

If Mr. Obauldi has concerns regarding his safety, then the Department of Law will be happy to arrange for a full military escort. The Department of Law's headquarters is a highly secure building, featuring the latest in security screening systems and a large droid garrison. We can assure you that Mr. Obauldi's safety will be more than accounted for, especially with the addition of whatever security assets Titan Industries currently employs.

We expect to hear from Mr. Obauldi shortly and will keep you abreast of his well-being once we hear from him.

Director Gerion Ardik, Department of Law

To: The Department of Law
From: Hyperion Consulting
Subject: Investigation Regarding Recent Events

Dear Mr. Ardik. We, the lawfully appointed legal representatives of one, Mr. Tefraxis Obauldi can neither confirm nor deny the current or recent whereabouts of our client, as to do such would needlessly endanger the life of our client. What we can do is assure one, Mr. Gerion Ardik that he is indeed our client by providing the Department of Law with a physical copy of the contract he signed with our company. You can expect the physical documents to arrive withing six standard galactic weeks, at which time we fully invite the Department of Law to investigate said documents to be anything other than legitimate and legally binding. In the meantime, we would advise the Department of Law to clarify the 'questionable activities' to which one, Mr. Gerion Ardik referred to in his original message that we might further facilitate the prompt and timely compliance with the requests of the Department of Law. Additionally, in order to facilitate the prompt compliance and resolution to the concerns of the Department of Law and their representatives, we ask that copies of any and all questions and evidence be provided to Hyperion Consulting that we might provide the sound legal council and advice to which he is lawfully entitled.

Your concern and interest in the safety and well being of our client is noted and touching. I can assure the Department of Law that the safety and security of one, Mr. Tefraxis Obauldi is of the highest concern to our financial department and is being personally seen to by many a trusted and respected individual. At such a time as we are contacted directly by our client or his caretakers, we will ensure that one, Mr. Tefraxis Obauldi is made abreast of the polite requests made by one, Mr. Gerion Ardik on behalf of the Department of Law. Once such a time has come to pass, our client will also be made aware that he will have three standard galactic months to appear before the Department of Law Headquarters on Hypori. As I am sure you are aware, no individual can legally be expected to comply with a timetable to which he has no knowledge, and any demands to the contrary are in violation of intergalactic law and come with full and appropriate fines and sanctions, enforced in part by the Banking Guild.

We do, however, thank one, Mr. Gerion Ardik for inviting the security forces employed by one, Mr. Tefkraxis Obauldi on behalf of Titan Industries to accompany Mr. Obauldi on his visit to the Department of Law's Headquarters on Hypori and will gladly inform the head of Hyperion Security of that development. We look forward to meeting with one, Mr. Gerion Ardik upon Mr. Obauldi's timely visit to the Department of Law's Headquarters on Hypori and, in the meantime, will keep one, Mr. Gerion Ardik abreast of our client's well-being once we hear from him.

Salutations,

The Department of Law will happily investigate the documents as you have requested, though we do not expect to find anything amiss with them. The Department of Law will also be more than happy to clarify and expound upon the details of the questions reserved for Mr. Tefraxis Obauldi- to Tefraxis Obauldi once he arrives before the Department of Law. This will take place within the allotted time of one week, as we have yet to receive confirmation your client is not presently situated on Roon. The Department of Law will not be adjusting the parameters of its time frame when there is not substantial evidence that calls for the adjusting of said time frame.

There exists no fully binding, official Intergalactic Code of Laws that all nations are beholden to.

We will continue to await, with great anticipation, the arrival of Mr. Tefraxis Obauldi before the Department of Law within one week's time. Again, this timetable is fully adjustable if Mr. Tefraxis Obauldi can himself confirm that he is three standard months worth of travel from Hypori. This is a relatively easy thing to confirm and we trust that he will before the one week period has ended.

It should be noted that the Department of Law was referring to the individual droid and security personnel working directly under the operations of Titan Industries. This does not apply to Hyperion Security and we were in no way "inviting" them to accompany Mr. Tefraxis Obauldi to the Department of Law. Mr. Tefraxis Obauldi's security will be accounted for solely by Techno Union security forces once he enters the building.

Signed,
Director Gerion Ardik, Department of Law

At the Department of Law, two men, as well as an armed escort, would arrive with a sealed case. Within the case was a small transceiver and a data pad. Unmarked in appearance, it was a Spynet Grey terminal. Connected to the second most secure backbone network of the organisation formerly known as Abrion Intelligence.

The Department of Law was essentially a civil matter, Spynet only contacted them to when data had been declassified to be used in criminal matters. As such, they had no need to be connected to Spynet systems permanently.

The armed guard stayed with the terminal and would decrypt it when a minister of sufficient standing was identified.

A single message was waiting:

"Re: investigations.

What is the purpose? Move into Abrion space was legitimate. As for 'external matters' that are ongoing outside of the Techno Union borders, are you liaising with a foreign department on this matter? Are you being pressured by a foreign power to conduct this investigation?"

[member="Raziel"]

"There are men from, uh... Well, they wouldn't say. They have a message for you."
"How clandestine. Send them in."

They set up the terminal in Gerion's office. One of the men, silent and stoic individuals that they were, decrypted the terminal to display a message for Gerion. The two technicians who set up the terminal excused themselves, but the armed guard remained. Gerion would have to take a shot in the dark and assume that these were Spynet personnel, seeing as they managed to clear security without murdering them. Perfectly legal, and seeing the message, perfectly just. He was unperturbed by the development.

Another agency just performing their duties to the Techno Union, as was transpiring at the Department of Law.

"Re: Re: Investigations

The Department of Law has not liaised with a foreign entity of any sort on this matter. We have been contacted by Hyperion Consulting, which has purported to represent Tefraxis Obauldi in the matter currently being investigated. However, Hyperion Consulting has alleged to be unable to contact Mr. Obauldi and so we will not be resolving this matter through them.

As I am sure you are aware, Tefraxis Obauldi is currently engaged in hostilities with the One Sith. The One Sith, I am sure you are also aware, is an entity which we are currently engaged in a legal alliance. Tefraxis' reluctance to have contact with members of the Executive Board, the Foreman, or any local government officials of any stripe despite this unprecedented move to Techno Union space and flagrant hostilities with one of our allies has been deemed rather suspicious by the Department of Law.

As such, we deem an investigation to be necessary. And it will be ultimately more reassuring to everyone in the Techno Union to hear an explanation from Tefraxis himself. We are sure he is not guilty in the slightest of any wrong-doing, and are sure he will arrive in a timely manner to clarify his actions. At which point, the investigation will conclude and all matters will return to business-as-usual.

Is there a reason for this message?"

We would appreciate a transmission containing any and all information - beyond that which is in the public domain - pertaining to hostile activity in One Sith space. The activities of a company that potentially undermine Union security is our business.

No requests for extradition have been received from the embassy, nor have any legal bounties been posted. The correspondence you have received concerning the safety the CEO of Titan potentially highlights alternative methods being south by the One Sith for recompense. However, we are already monitoring the situation.

A flipper tapped [member="Gerion Ardik"] on the shoulder, followed by a large flimsy file that was promptly shoved into his hands by a Herglic peon.

"Relevant data," he grunted, then lumbered off.

How he'd fit through the doors was anyone's guess.

The file contained a report from Darkwater Security on the veracity of Obauldi's claims. Herglic bodyguards had been contracted out to high level Titan executives. The bodyguards reported that there was no word of assassination from within Titan Industries executives, nor had the headquarters building been broken into. In fact, the only verifiable data appeared to be that Mr. Kuhn simply did not show up to work one day. And that was that. The source of all assassination claims seemed to stem from Obauldi himself, so far as the bodyguards could tell.

A second, smaller sheet of paper was typed up in bold font. It bore only a few sentences.

We both know the One Sith did not do this. Perhaps the question is not who did it, but rather who didn't?

-Orcus.

[member="Raziel"]

"Very well. You may expect to receive a transmission with all relevant data in the near-future."

[member="Hion the Herglic"]

A large flipper tapped Gerion on the shoulder, prompting him to turn away from the transmission just in time to see the glorious visage of one of Darkwater security's imposing Herglics. Theirs was the fury. Surprisingly, the lumbering whale was not here to spill anything over Gerion- as transpired during his last formal meeting with a Herglic. No, this time the Herglic brought a folder filled with assorted flimsiplast documents. Gerion always liked flimsiplast documents. There was no intercepting them unless the courier was tracked down and assaulted, which tended to cause a scene and was generally difficult to do in a galaxy chock-full of people.

He leafed through it, taking note of the documents therein and the short message from Orcus. "Go make copies of this and back it up, please." Gerion said, handing the folder off to his assistant.

The lobby of the Department of Law's holodial began to ring. A secretary answered.

"Good afternoon, Department of Law, Tech Union, 'where your business is our business' - how may I help you?"

"This is Tefraxis Obauldi, CEO of Titan Industries. Transfer me to Director Gerion Ardik, please."

[member="Tsavong Kraal"]

"Tefraxis Obauldi of Titan Industries is on line 1, Director."

Gerion snorted. What was that Hyperion Consulting had been babbling on about? Unable to contact their client? Hogwash, and he had figured as much from the start. As of now Tefraxis Obauldi hadn't come to him in person, but Gerion could settle for a holocall. Especially if he was squatting on the other side of the galaxy and was calling to confirm that. The Umbaran reached over his desk and depressed the button on the communicator, patching Tefraxis through to him. The CEO of Titan Industries was now on speaker.

"This is Director Gerion Ardik of the Department of Law speaking. How can I help you today, Mr. Obauldi?"

The holocall patched through, and an image appeared on Gerion Ardik's desk.

"Next time, you should really have your stenographer type 'in person'. Appear 'in person' at the Department of Law. Otherwise, you're going to have a lot of CEO's annoyed that they're having to do the calling, rather than being called. My number is publicly listed, Director. What is so urgent you have to make a call for my arrest?" The small image of Tefraxis stood, looking annoyed. He was dressed in a business suit and was dorning a rather ridiculous looking feathered tophat. It seems the man was either on vacation or trying to appeal to a strange culture, a culture uncivilized in the way of the Core Worlds.

[member="Tsavong Kraal"]

Was that a feathered top hat? Strange. "I apologize for the personal inconvenience this has caused you. Especially if the message was unclear to you, Mr. Obauldi. It seemed that your legal counsel at Hyperion Consulting understood that you were to arrive in person rather clearly. Are you able to arrive within the arranged time-frame or will you require it to be adjusted?"

The Umbaran drummed his fingers rhythmically on his desk, looking at Tefraxis rather expectantly as he did so.

"Absolutely not," Tefraxis folded his arms behind his back, staring at Gerion stone-faced cold. "I am not a citizen of any planet registered under the Techno Union. I wish to do business on Roon, and was told that my legal department had filed for temporary permits in lieu of our registration with the Techno Union. These temporary permits are all that is required of Titan Industries to conduct business on Roon. Your... facade is not recognized to be a legal move against my person and my holdings."

He turned to address someone off screen, and then turned back to face Gerion.

"Questionable activity does not, nor will it ever, constitute the legal right to threaten to arrest my person. I wish to instruct you, Gerion," Tefraxis was no longer using the Director's titles, as he felt he no longer needed to, "That my company and my business is already moving all classified material and practices out of the Gigabox, as per the threat of unlawful acts conducted by the Director of the Department of Law."

He furrowed his brow and looked up at the Director.

"If the Techno Union's first move is to assert dominance over Titan Industries as the One Sith did, then Titan Industries' first response will be to leave the Techno Union as quickly as we came."

The cuts and bruises from his scuffle with the One Sith were still apparent, even in the fuzzy holoimage.

"You will forward your questions to my legal representatives from Hyperion Consulting, and we will conduct an answer when given an APPROPRIATE amount of time. And before filing a public warrant for my appearance, you will pick up the holophone, like a civil man of business.

You will do these things, or you will lose Titan Industries' business in your territories."

[member="Tsavong Kraal"]

"Absolutely not."

Oh. Well, that settled things then. Gerion could see that Mr. Obauldi was getting prepared for a rather long-winded rebuttal. This was not of the least interest to Gerion. If Tefraxis did not require more than week to arrive on Roon, then he would arrive on Roon in a timely manner. This was the simplistic order of the Department of Law.

"I am not a citizen of any planet registered under the Techno Union. I wish to do business on Roon, and was told that my legal department had filed for temporary permits in lieu of our registration with the Techno Union."

The Umbaran reached over to the communicator again. With little fanfare or circumstance, he depressed the mute button. Gerion then sat himself straight and meshed his fingers together on the desk.

"You are now on mute, Mr. Obauldi, because you are already incorrect. The issue at hand is not the legitimacy of your operations in Techno Union space. The issue at hand is that you have not voluntarily contacted any Techno Union official at any level and explained the details of what has transpired between your company and the One Sith government. You have held no conversations with the Foreman or the Executive Board. Meanwhile, the One Sith, have provided us detailed reports assuring us that they have not engaged in any attacks on Titan Industries. It is my assessment that these reports warrant an investigation of you statements."

"Now, a crude or unjust individual would simply take the One Sith for their word. They would have you, Mr. Obauldi, dragged out into the streets and flayed alive to appease those intolerable maniacs squatting over the core. I, on the other hand, would like to hear your story so I might vocally prevent just that from transpiring. I am interested in the truth, Mr. Obauldi, and it is easier to extract the truth- the whole truth and nothing but the truth -from the head of an organization rather than a hired legal consultation service. That is why you have been summoned here. That is why the Neimoidian gentleman will not be an acceptable replacement."

"You are being called here to verify your claims. To attest truth and provide an honest and detailed account of what has transpired. If you feel I am overstepping my boundaries as the Director of the Department of Law to investigate the actions of a reclusive corporation that has neglected to maintain communications with its host government following a scandal that wracked an ally of the host government and resulted in tremendous loss of life..." Gerion paused here to suck in some air through his nose, long-winded sentence that it was. "I would encourage you to speak to my supervisor- Mr. [member="Darell Irani"]. If you feel he is not suited to handle your complaint, you may instead contact Foreman [member="Marek Starchaser"]."

"But whether or not you file a complaint is neither here nor there. You are still very much expected to make your appearance before the Department of Law. I am going to un-mute you now, Mr. Obauldi. Following which, you will answer the following question with either 'yes' or 'no' and we will continue our dialogue from there."

True to his word, Gerion reached over to tap the console once. Tefraxis was now free from the oppressive shackles of the mute button.

"Do you. Require. An extension. Of the time-frame?"

As the official legal council of Mr. Obauldi, Guude Juu'louya was privy to any and all communications between his client and an opposing legal party. Be that party an individual, a corporation, or a government official, Guude had a legal right to mediate on behalf of his client. As such, the Neimoidian listened in on the brief line of communication between the two. <He's even more rude in person.> Guude thought to himself before writing a new message for the Department of Law bundler... Honestly... What sort of government body would have the mivonks to call itself the 'Department of Law' and then deny the existence of such a basic and universal law as 'right to legal council and representation.'

<The Barbarians make the Mandalorians look civil by comparison.> He mused as he tapped away at hey keypad.

From: Hyperion Consulting
Subject: Investigation Regarding Recent Events

Good evening Mr. Gerion Ardik.

It has been brought to my attention that you were recently contacted by my client, one Mr. Tefraxis Obauldi and politely informed of our legal authority to represent his and Titan Industries interests and involvement with the legal body of the Techno Union. It has also been brought to my attention that the focus of your investigation into 'recent activities' is centered around events that have recently transpired on property legally leased by a government body known as the 'One Sith' to a corporation known as 'Titan Industries'. Had one, Mr. Gerion Ardick informed Hyperion Consulting representatives as to the specific 'recent events' to which he was referring, our firm would have already been able to assist Mr. Ardik in his investigation. I have been informed by my legal partner, one Mr. Zach Porcelain, that our client's recent violation of his lease agreement was unfortunate, but that all appropriate fines regarding early termination of lease and property damage have already been addressed and paid in full. Fortunately for Mr. Obauldi, and due in part to the outstanding insurance policy we have filed on his behalf, the Banking Clan has already provided full compensation to Titan Industries for all loss and damages sustained during a sudden and unprovoked act of terrorism. With these credits Titan Industries is fully able to pay the fee written into his contract with the One Sith government. As you can clearly see if you review the legal documents signed between Titan Industries and the One Sith government, the fee for failure to deliver an order in a timely manner is actually quite low.

And since the regrettable loss of material goods occurred before ownership of any manufactured products could be transferred over to the One Sith government, our client is only liable for a delay in the timely delivery of a great many orders. However, I can assure one Mr. Gerion Ardik that Titan Industries need not worry about profit loss due to their products. As you will clearly see should you review the contract between Titan Industries and the One Sith government, the means through which TItan Industries identifies and disposes of faulty products is entirely up to the discretion of Titan Industries representatives. The entire loss of inventory is currently being classified as a 'workplace accident' and Titan Industries is being compensated appropriately by its insurance provider.

For your convenience, I have included in this transmission all our current reports related to the recent activities. These reports are quite detailed and include video logs from Titan Industries security cameras as well as written and audio statements made by Titan Industries employees who personally survived the vicious and unprovoked attacks by unidentified individuals. I leave interpretation of these files to your own discretion Mr. Ardik, but I can personally attest feelings of relief as to the negligible loss of life during the incident, as the destruction of property and evacuation of surviving employees appears to have occurred long before any armed mercenaries were able to arrive at any of the facilities leased by Titan Industries.

As the now officially recognized legal representatives of one, Mr. Tefraxis Obauldi, I eagerly anticipate receiving your further questions for our client and look forward to all future interactions between our two organization.

Signed,
Senior Partner Guude Juu'louya, Hyperion Consulting

((OOC Note: consider all Titan documentation as completely contradicting all Sith documentation. The contradictions are obvious... their legibility is solid enough to promote strong doubt as to which of the two is the fake.))

Raziel sat back in his office on the Umbra, reading through the holonet messages between the Department of Law and the newcomers. Spynet spent a great deal of resources ensuring they had sufficient coverage across the backbone of the Holonet in TU space to monitor everything of interest. When you controlled the network, you controlled the information. They appeared to have a bulldog at the helm, chasing after companies for scandals. If that was the tack he was consistently going to follow, it was eventually going to be bad for business. In the Techno Union, bad for business was bad for the Union. If every company with suspicious activity was hounded in this way, Mr Ardik was going to quickly become more trouble than he was worth.

Never mind. Accidents could always be arranged.

For now, he penned a quick message to the foreman.

Your new legal laptop seems to be picking at scabs unnecessarily. Suggest he may be being influenced unduly by external organisations, potentially One Sith. Suggest you have a frank discussion given the potential tax revenue generated by Titan. Tax that could further the destruction of the Rebel Alliance. Suggest a frank chat, or simply yanking the chain.
