OUT OF CHARACTER INFORMATION
PRODUCTION INFORMATION
  • Manufacturer: Bard Independent
  • Model: Hellraiser Gravity Charge
  • Affiliation: Closed-Market (Any character can use this if they have explicit permission through, for example, a marketplace purchase)
  • Modularity: No
  • Production: Semi-Unique (Only A Handful of Characters)
  • Material: Plasteel, gravity bomb
TECHNICAL SPECIFICATIONS
  • Classification: Bomb
  • Size: Large
  • Weight: Heavy
  • Ammunition Type: Capital-scale graviton pulse
  • Ammunition Capacity: Ongoing gravity pulse until destroyed
  • Reload Speed: Depends how long it takes you to wrestle a barrel into your airlock, Crybaby launcher, etc.
  • Effective Range: Point Blank (no propulsion, relies on inertia)
  • Rate of Fire: Typically a ship will only carry one or two of these, and deploy them one at a time. See 'Reload Speed.'
  • Stopping Power: Choose from Very Low (direct damage) Extreme (involving artificial gravity fields, as described below)
  • Recoil: None (launching involves dropping barrel out of ship)
SPECIAL FEATURES
  • Gravity bomb
  • Compatible with common methods of deploying barrel-sized things, such as Crybaby modules.
Strengths:
  • Any artificial gravity fields within range of the blast will go berserk in the best sense, causing structural damage.
  • Shields are ineffective against gravitic weapons.
  • Hilarious.
Weaknesses:
  • No propulsion.
  • Rare; you're unlikely to be carrying more than one or two.
  • Not compatible with standard warhead launchers or bomb bays.
  • No effect on ground-based targets.
  • No effect on ships that have turned off their artificial gravity systems.
  • Minimal effect on starfighters, which typically have a single artificial gravity generator and powerful inertial dampeners.
DESCRIPTION
Every spaceship manufacturer in the known galaxy has used artificial gravity for dozens of centuries, if not longer. The technology is ubiquitous. But what if I told you it was also a gigantic liability?

A typical gravity bomb is a slow torpedo designed to attack capital ships. The explosion from the weapon generates intense gravity waves designed to shake targets to pieces by disrupting local gravitic fields. (Wookieepedia article, lightly edited.) A gravity bomb turns a ship's own artificial gravity against it, causing extreme structural stress. After using a comparable tactic to great effect at the Battle of Utapau, Connory built a dedicated bomb type to achieve similar effects. The end result is the Hellraiser, a barrel charge suitable for boarding, sabotage, and assisted getaways.

Imagine, for example, you find yourself up close and personal with a Star Destroyer. All is not lost. Chuck a Hellraiser out the airlock and run away while the Star Destroyer's crew deals with their fractious, deeply spooked artificial gravity. The effect will vanish (apart from hull stress, system strain, and profound nausea) as soon as they destroy the helpless barrel charge. Congratulations: a clean escape that will make nearly everyone laugh.
