OUT OF CHARACTER INFORMATION
Bryn'adûl
Draelvasier
GENERAL INFORMATION
  • Name: Helhass
  • Designation: non-sentient
  • Origins: Draemidus Prime
  • Average Lifespan: Birthed: 20 years, Cloned: 5 years
  • Estimated Population: Planetary
  • Description:
The Helhass are a drone variety found on Draemidus Prime, known for being ravenous hunters and voraciously vicious creatures best used to either overwhelm and enemy with numbers or to guard sealed off spaces. They also see use in specialized hunter units within the Bryn'Adûl.

PHYSICAL INFORMATION
  • Breathes: Type I & II [can breathe in oxygen rich and poor environments, though is more reliant on carbon to be present]
  • Average Height of Adults: [ 1.4m ]
  • Average Length of Adults: [ 3.5m. ]
  • Skin color: can go from pale, milky white to Soot black, with pinkish hue near join areas and with a permanent red shine on their back.
  • Hair color: White, see through, glass-like
  • Distinctions:
MALE VARIETY: Male Helhass are generally slightly smaller and shorter than their female counterparts and have two red bulges on their back, right where their shoulderblades are, which glow more brightly the more they exert themselves. Males have generally longer snouts and thinner limbs. Just like all members of this species though, they always run in a hunched position, making full use of the wider track of their front legs to climb, quickly change direction and keep momentum while doing so.

FEMALE VARIETY: Female Helhass lack the glowing red bulges on the back and are generally somewhat larger and longer, having a more sturdy build. Their snouts are less long and more broad in form. They also possess stronger, more muscular limbs.
  • Races: N/A
  • Force Sensitivity: Non-Sensitive
Strengths:
  • Fast Breeders: Helhass have a bi-annual mating cycle, with a single litter usually consisting of up to ten Helhass pups, which in turn only need two months to grow up to their adult size and reach phyical maturity.
  • Extreme sense of smell: Helhass have an acute sense of smell, able to pick up even the slightest whiff of a specific smell from over a kilometer away. Males are said to be able to smell a female's pheromones from up to ten kilometers in the right conditions.
  • Agile and limber: their specific built grants them abnormal speed and agility, allowing for it to climb the steepest mountains and through the most complex mazes as long as the surface isn't too smooth for them.
  • Neural link with Draelvasier, allowing for greater combat abilities and specialization of use.
Weaknesses:
  • Need neural linking: Without a neural connection, Helhass are simply like all predatory animals, only looking out for themselves and if encountered in the wild without having had any proper training and induction, they'll turn even on their own kind.
  • Light sensitive: Helhass usually live underground or in dark places, extreme lightsources may permanently blind them and their skin does not properly filtrate UV and infrared, resulting in overexposure to light actually being able to cripple, wound and even kill them when prolongued.
CULTURE
  • Diet: Omnivore, with preference to live prey or carrion, even indulging in cannibalism when food is short.
  • Communication: A mixture of barking sounds, hisses and heavy use of the tail is implied to be their method of communication.
  • Technology level: Non-existent, though through observance an awareness of tools has been noted.
  • Religion/Beliefs: N/A
  • General behavior: Helhass are commonly territorial in nature, living in packs of around forty to fifty mutts with around three to five females respectively. They live in dark places with low humidity, though they can also be found underground. Usually when it is mating ime, the males will exert themselvesto try and make their red bulges on their back shine the brightest to convince the females in their troupe that they are the most worthy. Pups conceived from these bi-monthly matingperiods grow up rather fast, being fed from their mother's teets for about a week until they start eating solid food in the form of left over scraps and after two to three weeks tops, the young join the adults in hunting outside of the next, having already reached about fifty percent of the adult physical size. Though Males are thought to be just simple packhunters with basic hunting instincts and basic sociological understanding, females are considered relatively smart and intelligent, having been observed to understand the concept of tools and learning to actually plan things in advance when given the proper nurture.
HISTORICAL INFORMATION
Helhass are thought to be an ancient species of Draelvasier, never having evolved into a sentient form, thus never suffered the cataclysm which befell the original evolved Draelvasier. They never truly evolved beyond that ancient, primitive form as there was no need. Within the harsh environment of their homeworld, aided by their rapid growth and constant replenishment of their numbers, the Helhass thrived all over Draemidus. Though never atop the food chain, these creatures where always looked at with caution, as a whole troupe of Helhass mutts could considerably damage any and all parties aimlessly wandering through their territory.

Though they had not evolved for eons, recently changes were visible when members of the newly revived Draelvasier started to capture and breed their own helhass in captivity, increasing the learning capacity of these animals and introducing neural linking to them, allowing for a beastmaster to control a female helhass and thus in turn control a whole group to be used as advanced hunters, spies and guards for Bryn'adûl facilities, campaigns, etc.

Though the preferred ones are the live-birthed helhass, the Draelvasier have been able to clone them as well, allowing for far greater numbers, but this at the cost of their lifespan, which has been greatly reduced to only about a quarter of the originallifespan.

- This is a nice addition to the Draelvasier lore, though, the reproduction rates actually remind me of Gizka. Between bi-monthly cycles and cloning - Do you have any concerns that they may eventually overrun certain areas? Or is there some sort of natural predator/condition (aside from age) that keeps their population from exploding?

- I would also suggest adding something about the "Neural Link" to strengths as well. Why? It makes them advanced hunters, spies and guards.

- "Designation: non-sentient, Hivemind properties"
I would suggest elaborating on the subject of a "Hivemind" somewhere, or, are you referring to the neural link? It just seems strange that some members of the species would have this and it isn't mentioned anywhere but there. It also doesn't state what properties that are being referred to.

Otherwise - This is neat. Scary little beasties that I wouldn't want to cross a pack of. Please tag me and let me know your thoughts on this. Thank you!
