- Tough Armour - Forged in Mandalorian steel the breastplate is very tough, and the triple layered fabric extension section also provide significant protection to all of the wearers vital organs, particularly against short range knife attacks. The emergency shield projector, while limited, provides an extra protection that can cover the entire body.
- Discrete - Lightweight and form fitting, the armour is very discrete and difficult to detect from a casual visual inspection. The hidden compartments also allows the storage of small items in a manner that is difficult to detect.
- Self repair - The Dral Kayatr alloy is capable of repairing itself over time. This is not fast enough to provide real time repairs during combat but given enough time the breastplate will repair damage to itself.
- Partial coverage - The armoured plate covers the centre of mass and protects the heart and lungs from the most serious attacks. The body suit gives a lesser protection to the rest of the torso but the head and limbs are entirely unprotected unless the emergency shield is activated.
- Metal Detection - The breastplate is made of metal and as such will be detected by metal detectors and x ray scanners if worn at more secure facilities.
- Limited resources - In order to keep the breastplate light and small, sacrifices had to be made. There is no built in power plant. Although the low amp battery can last a long time, there is only enough battery life for an hour of shield time and enough air in the rebreather for 2 hours of breathing. Once depleted the battery takes around eight hours to recharge, but the battery is very high quality and will retain its charge effectively indefinitely until used.
Mairéad Solus's first completed armour set was her own, her second was for a friend and mentor within The Family.
Caporegime Marcella Fiora enquired whether Mairéad would be able to make a discrete but functional piece of armour that could be worn under clothing, and Mairéad set to forging this breastplate and using techniques transferred from making her own suit, created an attractive and function plate, complete with a partial body suit. The breastplate is designed to take direct hits from kill shots from a variety of weaponry. The bodysuit is less durable but will shrug off shrapnel, small arms and maybe even the occasional light saber attack. It's triple laminated weave makes it particularly resistant to knife attacks.
Mairéad forged the breastplate to be discrete under clothing, including shaping it to more closely resemble natural anatomy. This is counter to efficient armour design, but the high quality material and effective metal working help make this sacrifice less significant. Her last design choice was the external mouldings, designed to make it wearable as a fashion piece in its own right, even the exposed parts of the recessed rebreather was reshaped to make the breastplate more attractive.
