ADVANCED SYSTEMS
  • Electro-Proton Defoliator
  • Neutron Bomb Chute
STRENGTHS
  • Scorched Earth: The Crocotta is, unsurprisingly for a Helix fighter, armed to the teeth, possessing quad laser cannons and a dizzying variety of explosives, including mass-destructive Electro-Proton Defoliator ordnance.
  • Versatile: The Crocotta is a sluggish but powerful fighter, with armaments capable of engaging fighters, capital ships, and ground targets with equal ease.
  • Thick Hide: Easily the most durable fighter craft Helix possesses, with thick Impervium armor and strong deflector shielding, the Crocotta can take a beating and still reach its unfortunate victim.
WEAKNESSES
  • Carrion-Bloated: Due to the sheer weight of its ordnance, the Crocotta is neither especially fast nor especially maneuverable. While it can spin and weave with more grace than most bombers to avoid incoming fighters, it is nonetheless a fairly ponderous vessel and must be supported to perform its work.
  • Ion Vulnerability: As a droid, the Crocotta has a very poor time indeed if struck by ion weaponry, though it can resist it with more grace than other Helix fighters.
DESCRIPTION

Created at first due to needing a dedicated bomber craft to replace the ageing Hyena, Helix did what it has always done: take a good thing and make it great.

Sporting heavier armor and armaments than its forbear, the Crocotta exists in relatively small numbers compared to the Condor or Calliphora, and for good reason. Each is fairly expensive, and loaded down with even more expensive and exotic ordnance for a variety of tasks.

Perhaps the Crocotta's best virtue is its sheer versatility. Sprightly and maneuverable for a bomber, it can dogfight when it needs to, though it will usually call for better units for this task when faced with strong fighter resistance. Its true purpose is to blow things up.

Possessing torpedoes, missiles, and several different varieties of bombs, the Crocotta can bombard nearly any target at nearly any range, possessing traditional proton bombs for clustered enemies or fortifications, neutron bombs for scorched-earth tactics, and worst of all, Electro-proton Defoliator hybrid ordnance to decimate mixed infantry/armor formations in a massive radius, this do-it-all fighter craft is the strong point of Helix strike craft groups.

The Crocotta possesses a lazy, indolent personality, spending much of its time deactivated when not in combat, or vocally complaining about not being able to be inactive. Helix engineers are at a loss to explain why so many of the craft spend their time lounging about the hangar in inactive piles, but the craft's excellent combat performance ensures this eccentricity is usually tolerated.

Perhaps due to this and its heavy armament and armor, the Crocotta shares the Condor's relative sluggishness, and while agile by the standards of a bombing craft, it can be easy prey for much faster interceptors if it cannot get a lock.
