STANDARD FEATURES
ADVANCED SYSTEMS
  • None
STRENGTHS
  • Heavy Bomber: Harriers have a massive complement of bombs and missiles that can break through even the toughest of armor, flesh, hide, shields, and terrain.
  • Beefy Shields: Boasting shielding as strong as that of smaller corvettes, Harriers can take a serious punishment before being brought down.
  • Long-Range: Equipped with a hyperdrive and plenty of space for provisions, Harrier-class strategic bombers are well-suited for long-range missions.
WEAKNESSES
  • Turns Like a Bantha: Harriers are cumbersome vessels limited by their large frames even in the vacuum of space. If forced into a dogfight, a Harrier will very quickly find itself outflanked by any dedicated starfighter.
  • Ion Vulnerable: Ion cannon fire can quickly bring down a Harrier’s shielding, exposing its vulnerable hull.
  • Not a Starfighter: Harrier-class strategic bombers lack any sort of cannons or similar weapons. If a Harrier’s pilot wishes to destroy a pursuing starfighter, it just either wait for an escort or sacrifice some of its missiles better used for heavier targets.
DESCRIPTION

The Harrier is Alge Imperial’s newest class of dedicated bombers.
Originally commissioned by the Caragachi Commonwealth, the Harrier-class strategic bomber plays a critical role in supporting both the Caragachi Army and the Caragachi Navy. For the Army, its large bomb bay allows it to be used for carpet bombing of enemy infantry and fortifications. Furthermore, the 20,000 kg limit on the bomb bay gives Army planners plenty of choices for using specialized munitions such as ion bombs, armor-piercing bunker busters, or even bouncing bombs.

For the Caragachi Navy, the Harrier’s function is even more vital. Since the Caragachi Armed Forces are unable to support large battlecruisers, the Navy’s bomber wing is, alongside the Orikan-class heavy cruiser, its primary force destroying extremely large capital ships. Deployed in air lances under heavy starfighter escort, Harriers are tasked with unleashing their missiles (and their bombs if it is safe to do so) against vulnerable parts of an enemy battlecruiser or dreadnought before quickly withdrawing to a fleet carrier or battle station to restock their munitions and receive repairs.

Though primarily used by the Caragachi Commonwealth, Harrier-class strategic bombers are also open to purchase by Caragachi allies as well as other customers approved by Alge Imperial Shipyards Engineering.
