OUT OF CHARACTER INFORMATION
  • Intent: To create a modernized droid brain for EIC produced droids.
  • Canon Link: N/A
  • Permissions: N/A
  • Primary Source: N/A

PRODUCTION INFORMATION
  • Manufacturer: Eshan Industrial Corporation
  • Affiliation: Eshan Industrial Corporation, The Directorate, Closed-Market
  • Model: Hardfiber Droid Cerebral Interface
  • Modularity: Changes to programming can be made, but the structure never changes.
  • Production: Minor
  • Material: Bio-fiber, Echani Graphite, Phrik, Polyfibe, Silver, electrical components

SPECIAL FEATURES
  • Advanced Processing: Due to the nature of the construction, and the use of bio-fiber in the processing unit, the speed of processing is greater than the typical single core or dual core processors.
  • Friend or Foe Programming: Echani have made a name for their friend or foe programming going all the way back to the first Echani Mimic Battle Unit. The programming in this new unit can be easily altered, but relies heavily on the senses to identify enemies. Primarily it relies on eyesight to identify foes, with a large database to draw from if necessary. The unit can be programmed by the user for specific identification. This newer model can also identify hostile intent by reading body cues and as such can be programmed to react situationally as well.
  • EMP Detection: A sensor within the brain utilizes visual cues and changes in the energy of the air to detect when an EMP burst is about to hit, which causes the unit to shut down for a short period of time to protect it. This does leave the unit vulnerable for a brief period, but allows it to return to service if it isn’t destroyed much faster than if it were hit during operation.
  • Personality Programming: The level of personality programming the system incorporates is modular. The droid can be given a high level of personality, close to but not reaching AI level, or it can be devoid of personality altogether, such as in a combat droid.
  • Skill Base: What the droid is programmed to accomplish is modular. This unit can be used in everything from protocol droids to combat droids. It all depends on what the owner wants it used for.

STRENGTHS
  • Lightsaber and Blaster Resistance: The use of Echani Graphite and Phrik provide resistance to sabers and blasters.
  • Adfvanced Processing: These units process much faster than standard dual cores, meaning split second reaction times.

WEAKNESSES
  • Not Proof: It’s resistant to sabers and blasters but under repeated abuse will fail.
  • Acid: Like most metals, this unit is susceptible to high strength acids.
  • EMP: Bursts of electronic energy cause it to shut down.

DESCRIPTION
Designed specifically to function with the Hardfiber Droid Nervous System, silver wires with Echani graphite protective sheaths descend with connectors for attachment to the spine of the nervous system. This provides the linking node as usually performed by the brain stem in a living body. Much of the function of the brain itself is performed by a central processing unit with multiple cores for efficiency and redundancy, but additional processing is performed by thousands of synthetic neurons placed throughout the bio-fiber section of the droid brain. Given that no artificial system has the same processing power of a living brain, creating a synthetic form was deemed a positive way to enhance the speed and dependability of the processing unit.

Utilizing a phrik outer shell for the top and rear of the unit provides stability normally reserved for the skull in living beings, but also provides a level of resistance to unforeseen strikes from the rear, especially of the lightsaber and blaster variety. In addition, the inclusion of sensory relays to determine levels of rising electricity can preserve the unit in times of electrical distress, keeping the droid functioning after a short downtime as necessary to avoid the electrical strike.

The unit is highly programmable both in friend or foe identification, skillset, and personality, leaving it a widely viable alternative to conventional droid brain systems.
