The Hapes Consortium Asked and Answered Questions

What is the Hapes Consortium faction?

In simplest terms, the Hapes Consortium is a cultural faction that wants to go major through our restoration storyline of putting a Djo Queen on the Fountain Throne.

Are we loyalists?

Yes. This faction is fundamentally a restorationist and monarchist movement moving under the Djo Banner.

Are we heroes?

Not necessarily.

Many characters may see themselves that way, or see themselves as patriots fighting for their homeland's freedom, but that does not actually make them so. Others may be opportunists, traditionalists, nationalists, or individuals seeking revenge for their personal wrongs or vendetta's. Some may be the types who want to see the Galaxy Burn, just to feel its warmth. Insert anecdote here about chaos being a ladder.

All of that to say, we won't be prescribing to the Jedi or Sith's ideas of morality, but rather want to explore what morality looks like through the lens of Hapan perspective.

Why are the Hapans hostile toward outsiders?

In our stories narrative, many of the Hapans who are backing our Djo Queen, believe their people have repeatedly suffered because outsiders involved themselves in Hapan affairs. Whether it was the Galactic Alliance, Black Sun, or Mandalore, foreign powers have continually shaped the fate of the Consortium. This has led, in our story, to deep resentment, distrust, and a renewed sense of Hapan nationalism among many within the population.

Does every Hapan have to agree with this ideology?

No.

While the faction itself is restorationist in nature, individual characters are free to hold differing opinions and challenge one another's beliefs.

Can I play a member of a noble House?

Yes, we will even provide a list of canon noble houses, should you like to join or write them.

Can I create my own noble House?

Yes, we love when others want to be creative. There are hundreds of worlds within the Hapes Cluster for your Ducha to rule over.

Can I play a male Hapan?

Absolutely! We ask that you just keep in mind that Hapan society is traditionally matriarchal, and male characters often face societal limitations and expectations that their female counterparts do not. However, this can create some incredibly compelling stories and character arcs.

Male Hapans may seek equal rights and challenge the system, accept their place within society and navigate its expectations, or pursue influence through marriage, politics, wealth, and other forms of soft power. Some may even embrace the traditions of Hapes and become their staunchest defenders, or as in the Canon EU, run off to become a Pirate.

Why should I join the Hapes Consortium?

Our goal is to tell stories that feel like "Game of Thrones in Space" through the lens of Hapan culture and Star Wars. If those are the kinds of stories you enjoy telling, then the Hapes Consortium is the place for you.

Do you have a Senate?

No.

The Hapes Consortium is an absolute monarchy. Individual worlds, conquered or otherwise, do not possess independent representation or votes in a galactic senate. The word of the Queen Mother is law, and what the Ereneda decrees, goes. That does not mean there are no politics within the Consortium, however. The Queen Mother is advised by a royal council, and there will be numerous positions, offices, and avenues through which characters may seek to influence HRH.

Will the Hapes Consortium be invasion-focused if it becomes a Major faction?

Not necessarily. The Consortium's primary goal is story, and the restoration and preservation of Hapan sovereignty and the reclamation of its place in the galaxy.

However, that does not mean we will shy away from invasions or expansion should the story call for it. If we believe that an expansionist course would create compelling stories and benefit the faction as a whole, then we will go that direction.

Can Houses feud with one another?

Yes, and we even encourage it! We just ask that the conflict remains collaborative, enjoyable, and follows the story. The best way for that to happen is through ample communication to avoid any miscommunications. The site's rules still apply, and OOC boundaries should be respected at all times.

If another writer asks you to stop involving their character in your stories, tells you they no longer wish to write with you, or otherwise sets a boundary, respect their decision and move on. You are free to be disappointed, but it is not the responsibility of the faction or its staff to mediate personal disputes or force people to write together. If we get wind of harassment, it could result in a permanent ban from this faction, and its stories.

Can I play a Jedi, Sith, or Force user?

Individual Force users may still exist within Hapan society, but they are traditionally looked down on by Hapans. That said, you are welcome to play a Hapan who was trained as a Jedi or Sith, or simply a Force-sensitive character with their own beliefs and practices, if that's your desire (we already have the Vahla operating within the transitory mists, for example).

However, this is not a Force-focused faction, so we don't plan on providing roleplay stories centered around the Jedi Temple, Sith academies, or dedicated Force-based institutions. If you are interested in that type of story telling, there are already several factions that would be more than happy to have you.

How can writers participate if their characters aren't Hapan?

This faction is an opportunity to explore a corner of the Star Wars EU canon that has a long history of influencing galactic events, but has not previously been given the spotlight of a major faction status on Chaos, so naturally we want our characters and stories to reflect that.

That said, while our stories will focus on Hapes and its people, the Consortium is still part of the wider galaxy. There will be opportunities for non-Hapan characters to become involved through diplomacy, alliances, trade, foreign visits, and other interactions with the Hapes Cluster. Heck, you could even have distant Hapan family members that bring your character in! Either way, there's definitely a place for you.

How do you plan on lasting? Cultural factions don't usually last very long and can be difficult to attract members to.

Our goal is not to exist indefinitely on the map, simply for the sake of existing. We are here to write stories, create memorable characters, and have fun within the setting.

If the faction lasts for years and people are enjoying themselves, we will continue building those stories. If it has a shorter lifespan, then we will work toward giving those stories a satisfying conclusion, rather than forcing the faction to continue beyond what is enjoyable.

Are you the next New Imperial Order or Galactic Alliance?
No.

We are the Hapes Consortium.

This question and accusation has become a tired and lazy way of attempting to define new factions and entire groups by the actions, reputations, or controversies of factions that came before them. It is not constructive, and it does not contribute to meaningful discussion about what a faction is actually trying to build, and we're not going to entertain attempts to force those labels onto us.

Will you collaborate with other factions for invasions and stories?
If we reach the point of becoming a major faction, then yes! We would love that. We are more than open to working with other factions, especially when it creates something engaging and worthwhile for everyone involved. Inter-faction stories can be some of the most fun threads to take part in.

Why don't you have a social Discord like other factions?

We wanted to try something different and see how it worked, simple as that. Before faction Discords became the norm, most coordination happened directly through the site itself. We thought it might be worth returning to that approach and seeing whether cutting out some of the background noise and distractions would help keep the focus on writing and posting. Beyond that, it's also helpful and inclusive for those who don't have discord, or may not want to use it, to keep things on the board where others can see and still be part of the faction.
