GR Invasion of Ord Mirit

[member="Elian Sarcos"]

IMHO, I think it is reasonable to say this popular and widely used virus you plug in/broadcast and it magically infects and hacks everything would encounter firewalls and Force knows what else taking the thread's setting into consideration. Not to mention all sorts of professionals who are watching over the network and ensuring they don't get hacked, as that is expected from the opposing side.

And no, just because nobody reacted to your post doesn't mean hacking the OS network is OK. 99.9% of people in the thread are doing what they signed up for - helping their faction complete the chosen objective. That's what the thread is about. That's what you signed up for, too. Your character runs around and does his own thing instead of doing the objective, plus you tagged nobody when you "hacked" the OS. You can't expect people to chase after you when the nature of the thread is about something completely different than you're doing.

What my man, Darth Veles, said. Firstly, tagging Rev and Ali isn't serving a purpose beyond the OOC aspect of it, we are in the midst of waging war and Rev is hooked into a cognition throne.

On top of what Veles has asserted, this fuel depot has never been rped before the start of this invasion. In fact, I would argue that Ord Mirit is one of the least rped planets on the site. So putting a virus on a computer in the middle of a fuel depot not used by the OS is akin to putting a virus on the moon and expecting it to somehow travel down to Earth. It's just not really applicable and appropriate, given the purpose of the invasion. The fuel depot was for setting only and there has been nothing to indicate it's 'connection' to encrypted OS channels or anything constituting a capacity to become infected by a virus.

I am like 99% certain that [member="Darth Venefica"] already took care of potential viruses and slicers by destroying the only valuable information on the fuel station and destroying the only connection from the depot to anywhere else. And I believe that was about 5 pages ago.

Ship computers control just about everything. Think about the ramifications of that.

If she did then it must have been in post one, because I established a comms center early on, page 2 I thing. If the latent thing is worthless then I don't really care. Frankly I expected someone to stop me.

[member="Darth Veles"] [member="Reverance"]
Actually it does mean that it works. IF I were a GR member and no one tried to stop me it would be the same. However, if the latent program doesn't work, then no big deal.

Now the other, I got my datapad set up to work on the encrypted system. I am broadcasting on all channels and have not posted it being effective. That is entirely in the hands of anyone that I vestigates. There are a ton of ways to get around what I did and you or anyone else could freely post them rather than complaining in OOC about my character trying to cause a little mayhem. I won't stop you from stopping it. He ditched the datapad after all.

I didn't sign up to help the faction. I signed up purely to RP. My character wants the OS to lose.

When ao.eone initiates an action, and no one posts in an attempt to stop it despite people seeing the posts (I know for a fact that at least one writer of a Sith character saw what I was doing because my posts got likes) then that action doesn't cease to exist. Also, by definition of historical actions, unless something is stated about people countering hacking attempts then it isn't happening. I've had that rule used against me a million times. Now, I waited two days for someone to post trying to stop me, even NPCS would have been acceptable, but no one did.

In conclusion: a reasonable amount of time was offered for countering, people saw the posts and knew I was up to no good, there are a myriad of Sith nearby that could have come to stop me, and no one did anything g to counter my move. Therefore the action succeeds. Now the extent of what that a tion does is up in the air, but it does succeed.

Not all that strange.

How do you think Ferus picks up his women?

[member="Elian Sarcos"]

As an OS member you're there to help, or you're not there at all. If you want go mess with the One Sith, make a different thread, rather than trying to sabotage an invasion, which often has enough OOC issues.

Invasions are used for pvp between opposing factions, not extra stories that distract writers in an already hectic situation.

Just my two credits on that subject.

Let him do what he wants and then patch it up afterwards. We're in the middle of an invasion, there is little to no inbound communication that would link up secure information to Ord Mirit with the potential loss of the planet in the instance that we don't succeed.

Actually.....I had already put the fuel depot system in shut down mode and transferred every piece of vital information out of the computers to the Dark Lord, which was like on page four post #71......your post where you pout a virus (into a shut-downed system) didn't take place until page 7, post #131.

In other words, you placed a virus into a dead system.

I'll do what I want, and what my character wants, not what you want or anyone else wants, thanks. I'm not letting OOC dictate my IC if I can avoid it anymore. The loss of Ord Mirit serves my characters goals. That's all.

[member="Darth Venefica"]
I jacked into the system prior to page 7, I do believe, but either way I don't really care. Also, the virus is attached to the outbound distress signal. I haven't really dictated what the other, latent program is yet. And it can linger in a dead system until it's reconnected, anyway. As I said, doesn't really matter. I didn't enter this dead set on succeeding. Unlike most, I don't have to win every engagement I'm in. It's all for a grander scheme than one battle anyway.

And again, I was never after information, so the lack of it makes zero difference to me.

At last, someone with a sensible thought.

You get so defensive over everything :)

People try to pointe things out to you, and you fire back with an attitude. You did it to [member="Sage Bane"] in the OOC. You did here toward [member="Darth Ferus"] and myself. Regardless of what goals you/your character have planned, one thing that is not needed is your attitude.

This is a fun site and most people get along, the OS for the most part is a big family of misfits. We help each other, write together, and at times, argue with each other. But in the end, everyone gets along....poor attitude free.

You don't like the OS, we get it. You want to unravel everything we are doing, we get that, too. Nobody is trying to tell you what you can and can't do with YOUR character, but they are politely trying to explain to you that you signed up for the invasion with understanding you are working with us. Obviously everyone was wrong. We get that as well.

But anyway....carry on. Enjoy yourself. Have fun.

People have tried and sometimes succeeded in doing various cyber attacks on the OS all the time. I don't really see an issue with it because, quite frankly, it can be dealt with when it needs to be. I dislike the sudden jump from one thread to the next of completely anti-OS stuff without any real history to justify that sort of reasoning, but it doesn't really bother me because I really don't care. Enjoy the invasion, just be aware that being caught doing this, both now and afterwards, probably means a pretty sizable reason for any Sith across the board that has any relation with the OS to hunt you down if they feel the need. Not that I will, because I don't really do that kind of stuff, but poking the bear isn't the best of ideas all the time.

I don't have an attitude, lol. I'm just a straight talker who tells it how it is.

I don't hate the OS. Nothing against it, or most of the people here. Elian is a Chiss with a backstory of wanting to change Chiss society, and subsequently also fixing the galaxy as a whole. If the OS loses Ord Mirit, it would benefit his ability to take control of the Chiss, as that arm of OS control would dwindle (in theory, of course). That's what it's about. The whole ridding the galaxy of all galactic governments is also part of it.

Unless, of course, you enjoy causing mayhem and want people to put a bounty on you. I like a good story.

I suppose. I do have an honorary bounty by the illustrious leader of the Galactic Senate, though I'm sure they all think I'm (my real identity, anyways) is dead.

A while ago I could have gotten behind this, but I'm not invested in continuing this character anymore beyond things that really give me enjoyment, like writing with a couple of writers with her to give them something to do with me.
