There were many handheld weapons out there, more than you could conceivably use in a single battle, than even the most hardcore soldier could hope to use in their entire career. Although Locke and Key were known contributors to that pile of weapons they were trying to do something different with the god-eye. Instead of producing one more weapon, the god-eye was a system designed to be installed into existing or new guns. Using a system of cameras, sensors and other electronic components the gun was able to transmit data to a user interface, be it a HUD or a datapad.
Ammunition count, targeting information and gun diagnostics, the system could feed them all to a user to allow them to make choices with the best information about their weapon. Able to pair with a HUD for better accuracy or to fire from the hip the god-eye wasn’t a world-changing weapon, it wasn’t a weapon that would shake up the market but a solid component to improve a fighter’s quality of life.
