TECHNICAL SPECIFICATIONS
- Classification: Shrapnel Charge
- Size: Small
- Weight: Average
- Explosive Type: Repulsor-projected X18 shrapnel
- Delivery Method: Thrown/Launched
- Effective Range: Average
- Area Of Effect: Point-Blank
- Damage Output: Very High
- Causes a tiny, self-contained explosion
- Adheres to surfaces it impacts.
- Sticky Bomb: The GMG briefly superheats when it detects impact, fusing itself to any solid surface that it touches.
- Toxic: The GMG utilizes X18, and as such poses a radiotoxic threat in addition to the risk of fragmentation.
- Tiny Radius: The GMG inflicts no damage whatsoever outside of its small radius.
- Tick Tock: The GMG possesses a fairly lengthy detonation timer, allowing quick-thinking foes ample time to escape to safety, or pry it off of themselves.
A cruel but effective weapon, the GMG grenade is Helix's answer to the need for in-house grenade production.
The weapon appears as a small, metallic blue orb that can fit comfortably into the palm of a typical humanoid hand. When triggered, an 8-second fuse is initiated, and the user would do well to throw or launch it as soon as possible.
When it detects contact with a solid object or surface, the grenade briefly increases its surface temperature to several thousand degrees Celsius, a temperature sufficient to melt most objects and partially fuse the grenade to a given surface.
When the timer is up, the grenade projects (for a short few moments) a dual-polarized deflector shield bubble, intended to prevent any fast-moving shrapnel from flying beyond a very limited radius (some 3 meters). It then detonates a sizeable X18 charge around which is packed thousands of tiny, diamond-shaped metal shards.
The result is a perfectly-spheroid whirlwind of contained, chain-ricocheting shrapnel, as a hail of supersonic projectiles bounce around inside the interior of the force bubble. Against infantry, the results can be messy, with observers likening it to "throwing a Muja Fruit in a blender". Of course, like most deflector shields, slower-moving objects (such as enemy soldiers) can simply walk or leap out of the radius unimpeded.
As such, the weapon fulfills an "offensive grenade" role, intended to be used in very close quarters without the risk of friendly fire, clear small rooms, or force hostiles to move out of cover. Anything that rests even a millimeter outside of the radius will be entirely unharmed.
Against armored vehicles, the GMG has been known to melt through thin points in hulls before detonating, harming or killing the crew, or damaging droid brain components in the case of autonomous vehicles. As such, it possesses some limited anti-tank capability.
Given the incredible lethality of this weapon, it possesses a lengthy fuse as a safety measure, giving friendlies plenty of time to get away in case of accidental activation. Of course, this also cuts both ways. Hostiles with sharper reflexes have plenty of time to escape the radius, pry the grenade off if it sticks to them, or even hurl it back at the original user.
