Name: Marrow & Illskins Alchemy Shop | Annaj Store Location

Classification: Artifacts & Alchemy Supplies Shop

Location: Planet - Annaj. Southern hemisphere. Ikkermill Swamps. Southwest of the small town of Ikkermill.

Marrow & Illskin's have several shops in key locations throughout the galaxy to help distribute rare and questionable items without drawing too much attention. The shops are often found in hidden away areas not immediately apparent to the casual passerby. In many cases one must actually be given the location of the shop to find it by someone who has already been there. It goes without saying that its clientele are discreet members of society that do not give the information out to just anyone, being that the shop is closely linked to the Black Market and other unmentionables.
Affiliation: GLF Inc. | Dissero | [member="Gabriel Sionoma"]

Description:

House-on-stilts in the middle of a swamp. Inaccessible by transport (cannot land small ships due to tree cover, terrain too unstable for land transports) and must be found on foot.

In it's original incarnation the swamp shop of Annaj was a boxy sort of thing situated several meters from the surface of the swamp by large log stilts. Compact and aging, it was a store in need of a lot of love and upkeep. The wood was aged and rotting, the shingled roof had several leaks to speak of, and damn near every floorboard inside protested bearing any weight at all. Despite all this the place suited Dissero just fine for what he required for his storefront. It was small, inconveniently out of the way, and almost impossible to find if you didn't know how to. A two-story accord, the first floor shop featured all the key rooms every M&I location has:

Each shop maintains a fairly identical layout - rank with the dark, morbid, and gloomy. They tend to be cramped and packed full of items such as artifacts, relics, and other questionable curios. Most shops double as the shopkeeper's home, so there are typically more levels devoted to their living space.

There consists four areas to a shop:

  • Main Shop - where the shelves are piled with oddities and artifacts, the aisles are narrow and often filled with unintentional traps of things hanging in the way or sticking out. Often there is a layer of dust settled on must surfaces.
  • Armory - a small side room with aged display cases baring weapons of various alchemical properties and varying stages of ill repute.
  • Apothecary - a sectioned corner devoted to the ingredients and tools required for alchemy and sorcery.
  • Archives - a room of tall, dusty stacks at the back of the main shop filled with old books, tomes, scrolls. The lucky shopper might find a holocron or datacron or two, though the value of the contents can vary substantially.
The second floor, accessible by a narrow and circular staircase behind the counter, served as the Shopkeep's living quarters. For one person who lived by simple means this was quite spacious with ample room for belongings. For anyone of modern lifestyle, it proved to be small desperately out of date for technological needs. This shop in particular does not employ electricity for anything and so all manner of living needs were about as old-school as one could get.

That was, of course, before the shop was destroyed by a band of pirates and rebuilt under the guidance of Gabriel Sionoma.

The new shop is pictured at the top of the submission article.

Deciding that perhaps relocation was pertinent. Gabriel was provided with a team of GLF employees and a rather large purse of credits at his disposal to quietly rebuild a new storefront in the Ikkermill swamps. Located about 4 miles southwest of the original, a drier patch of land was chosen to base a larger store upon. While the layout of this store is markedly similar to the first, it is larger to allow for more product, with an expanded living quarters for the Shopkeep. It also features a small workshop space where custom pieces could be assembled on-location where orders permitted.

The Annaj shop features local elements in its construction including a thatched roof laid overtop very durable wooden shingles that managed to survive the destruction of the original. The shop was upgraded technologically as well and employs the use of electricity through various means of underground, vented generators as well as solar-powered cells installed around the premis. The store is largely hidden from view by the thick swamp canopy as well as the typical spooky-swamp setting of bog gasses, fog, and thick forested foliage. While various skulls of local beasts adorn the outside of the store, the Annaj shop is the only one to feature the massive skull of an adult Nabooian Tuskcat that was once the loved companion of its former Shopkeep, [member="Cerusia Darke"]

To get to the shop is a tall order. One cannot simply fly in on a ship as there are no suitable locations to land and taking terrain transports any larger than a boat or a repulsor-speeder simply won't clear the otherwise thick swampland trees and vegetation. Beyond the land upon which the shop sits the waters of the swamp can get quite deep and mucky. Dangerous creatures live in those waters and within the forest itself. There is a hidden pathway of slightly raised earth that leads a winding trail from the town of Ikkermill at the swamp's northeastern boarder all the way to the store itself, but to find this path one must be attuned to the barely noticeable minutiae of Force spells that conceal it. Comparable to attempting to follow a spider's thread where too much effort could easily break it and not enough will lose it within a blink. It can be followed with a great deal of concentration and those who do so successfully will can usually make their way to the shop without mishap. Those who fail to maintain proper focus will be lead astray and lost.

The pathway has a habit of concealing itself as one moves along, almost as if it had a mind of its own.

Curiously enough, animals seem to find this pathway instinctively, even those who are not particularly attuned to the Force.

History:

The second store location to come to fruition, the Ikkermill Swamp shop of Marrow & Illskins was carefully placed within an old swamp cabin that had long since been abandoned. On a physical timeline, this location was by far the oldest of structures and needed a fair amount of repair before it could be opened. Dissero chose from his employ of Great Leap Forward Inc. an older man by the name of Jaster to run the shop. Jaster stayed on for about two years before he was moved to another location in order to make room for Dissero's sister, Cerusia, who had a strong background in ancient artifacts and Force antiques and also needed a quiet, isolated retreat to slowly transition into this new chance at life.

It was here at the Annaj shop that Gabriel Sionoma first was introduced to Marrow & Illskins as well as Cerusia. Over the course of nearly a year, Gabriel visited the shop and developed a friendship with the Shopkeep as well as Ereza Kep, the face of the man who owned the string of shops. As a man who was comfortable in bartering for his needs, Gabriel agreed to fix the roof in exchange for supplies and items from the shop. He later played an integral role in saving Cerusia from a band of attacking pirates, though the shop was unfortunately not so lucky and suffered a great deal of destruction. The shop sat in ruin for several months while Annaj underwent the annual rainy season and floods overtook Ikkermill and the swamps.

By the time the waters had receded there was little left of the shop proper. It was decided that a complete rebuild was best and who better than the man who provided a roof that withstood not only pirates, but an entire season of devastating floods. In exchange for his help in building the new shop, Gabriel was offered partial ownership and management of the Annaj store. The new shop took several months to construct and fill with product, but now stands open and ready for customers.

Intent: To expand upon and describe more in detail the well-used locations of the Marrow & Illskins storefronts that have played an integral part to several PC characters stories.

I knew this was familiar, I judged the original! I see nothing to poke at here. Approved, pending secondary.
