Request Give me some fresh Character Ideas

As most of the community is aware, I focus most of my time and energy on writing the Trade Federation and occasionally the InterGalactic Banking Clan. I have numerous other characters on my roster but I do not really develop them into what one might call proper characters with backstories and motivations as most of my writing tends to be focused towards "How do I make credits and expand my influence across the galaxy".

This is what I like to call me rping a High-Level NPC instead of what one might call a Player Character as the goal is very face-value and does not have a conclusion for there is always money to be made. While I have tried expanding into the force user base of the community there has been nothing that has really stood out to me as an interesting concept for me to explore.

Therefore I am kindly asking the chaos community to provide me with some character ideas for me to explore and really develop.

I am not your rolling wheels, I am a hive mind
So there's this one trick for character creation. Think about stuff you've enjoyed writing, past characters etc., and ask yourself why you enjoyed it. What traits or angles about the character, what kinds of threads - what was fulfilling and why? Then try thinking of a whole new character that works from all that 'why.' (As an example, I made Tilon Quill because I really enjoyed getting creative and tactical with Jorus Merrill's extremely niche, extremely specialized underdog skillset, so I gave Tilon something even more niche and underdog-y and ran with it.)

What's fulfilling for you about writing what you've been writing and are there any other angles that would get you the same feeling?

Since you ask for specific ideas, here's a couple that might play to your strengths and be a good time:
  • Run for Chancellor on a platform of 'just good business.'
  • Write a shipwright or R&D specialist/consultant.
  • Write a far-ranging prospector/explorer. Build worlds, get on the map more.
  • Tint Cad Bane green and go running as a Neimoidian in a cowboy hat.
  • If none of the usual Force character angles are interesting, make one in your own image. Have done it a few times, no regrets.
  • Alternatively, consider a crafting-focused tradition like Jal Shey or alchemy. It may be a crowded field but it's not hard to excel.
  • Write a hive mind. Get huge.

Excellent ideas. Will put them on the list.

Develop long-term and short-term goals for the character. Why are they important to the character? How did their upbringing shape their personality and drive these goals? Flesh out a core motivating trait for them specifically and build on it from there.

I suggest selecting an idea you enjoy and creating a character that reasonably aligns with that concept. Take a moment to review this suggestion. This process will not only help you understand the character's motivations but also provide depth to their journey. By examining their upbringing, you can highlight how past experiences influenced their aspirations, revealing a core trait such as resilience that propels them forward despite challenges.

If you're interested in exploring a Force user character, I would be happy to discuss some ideas with you. You can also join my group to give it a try. If this is the route you choose, I recommend creating a younger character designed to grow and change.

Might be a good philosophy. I'm leaning towards making a B'omarr Monk or a terrorist Ithorian. Just something to branch away from my usual

+1 to everything the GOAT Ashin said above. I'll add one more thing to the list: consider giving yourself a challenge in your prose. Something small, but something that keeps your brain working as you're writing. It can be something set by yourself or necessitated by the character -- for example, big goober Xeykard has to refer to himself as "this one"/third person, so it forces me to rethink my phrase packages.

I think you've got a better base than most when it comes to starting in this direction. You're kind of a chaos GM extraordinaire in my opinion, so to flip that script -- you could write the type of hero you'd want opposing your villains. Who are the people you've enjoyed writing with, collaborating with? What did you like about their writing? Their characters?

A single concept: A Talon Karrde type. Start with a scheming crime boss, get drawn towards the light due to their honour and falling out with the bad guys.

This is a very good outlook on it and will definitely assist me in becoming more character oriented.

Um can't quite see the gif. But will take that into advisement.

This is great advice as well. Something to really think about in my rp journey.

I'm getting ready to launch a more campaign / close knit interwoven story / group you're welcome to come experiment with us as I will be essentially a dm/ gm for most things we do. Give em a poke if you're interested.

The only advice I can give that hasn't already been stated is to also really just be true to what you want to play.

By that I mean that we all mostly have a sort of character concept that we adore, but sometimes we might worry what others think about it. A few years ago I'd have never made a character so overtly edgy as a vampire goth, but I knew in my hearts of hearts that I wanted to embrace the cringe.

The progression of RP is a circle, you start with the cringe characters, you progress into more serious ones, maybe at some point you fall deep into the 'gritty realism or bust', but eventually you circle back to 'actually I really enjoy the cringe characters'. Not to necessarily say everyone longs for the cringe, but you get the general idea.

The bottom line is be true to yourself; play a character that deeply resonates with you and you'll have a lot of fun.
