Karlie Lynn Destat
Conspiracy Theorist and Investigator (IBI)
Pain.
Karlie jarred her eyes open to pain, and darkness.
A minute, perhaps several minutes passed as she desperately tried to get her bearings.
Nothing whatsoever felt right...
Where the hell was she and how did she get this way? Something was immobilizing her, but in the pitch darkness she couldn't make out what or anything at the moment.
Panic was starting to ensue.
That is until memory flashes of her ship, system failure warnings flashes and siren blares... she had collided with something.
Had it had been a dream...the crash? Karlie remembered the instant her proximity alarm went off....then, mayhem... everything just seemed to have crashed, one thing cascading into another...there had been no time-
She had been in hyperspace...yes, Karlie remembered that part well. Hell, it had all gone well before-
"Frak..."
Well, it sure wasn't a dream now, as bits of jarred memories found their way through the pain. Berkana (God) her head throbbed. Karlie then recalled the last second before her ship, everything around her blacked out.
"Gasp"... She started to fumble with what she now expected to be the harness of the pilot chair she should be strapped to. It had been the last thing she attempted to do before it all went black.
Her ship's system had picked up a gravity well, but due to the velocity she were traveling, an 0.3, there hadn't been much time to correct it's course.
There.
Karlie felt the release hasp. The harness was tight..extremely tight and her head were throbbing...nothing about her felt right.
Right.
Right?
"Shiet..." She realized she were topsy-turvy...upside down. Her ship had crash landed upside down!
How far would she fall to the ceiling? Hell if she ever thought about how tall her cockpit ceiling was. well, it couldn't be that high..right?
"Oh frak me.."
Click.
"Gah!"
Tathump... she slammed onto the ceiling below her.
"Ouh..." Karlie landed hard on her shoulder.
"Frak!...frak....frak..." She cursed laying there a moment, trying to let the pain pass.
Yes, she were free.
Not only that, but discovered she could breathe better, no longer bound as she were.. But everything hurt...everything. Her headache had subsided a bit, but was nevertheless still there. Karlie gave it another moment for her blood to re-equalize. How long had she been strapped in her chair upside down? ...she couldn't guess.
Slowly she rolled herself over and in theory should be looking up at the floor.
One... three...then several little indicator lights came into focus. Her ship's systems had crashed but there was still some power...emergency power?
Yes, of course... "Whew...the emergency life support system..." she muttered to self. It were the only explanation as to maybe why she were still breathing. But where was she and why was it so dark? Her ship had duraglass windows. She should be able to see something-
Stars.
Karlie could see a few stars from what she assumed was one of the windows. It were nightfall then.
"Heh..haha..." she let out her first meager sign of relief. She were alive. A relief that was needed to help her fight, subdue the panic that was building up inside her. She were getting some answers as to her current situation. Answers that would mean she 'd be able to find solutions to...if and when she could catch some wind. She were utterly spent, feeling like she went a few rounds with her former drill Sargent.
It were nightfall...
She were too tired, too beat up at the moment to fumble about in the dark. Maybe... just maybe, this rock orbited a star and she'd wait for daylight to filter through the windows so as to get a better bearing on what was functioning and what wasn't.
Yes... that sounded like a good idea in her head.
She'd wait for daylight...
" ...wait...yes, wait for daylight...." she told herself closing her eyes.
