OUT OF CHARACTER INFORMATION
GENERAL INFORMATION
  • Name: GenoSense Bacteria
  • Designation: Non-sentient
  • Homeworld: N/A
  • Language: N/A
  • Average Lifespan: 1 month (outside of a lifeform), until affected lifeform dies/is removed
  • Estimated Population: Common
  • Description: Some call it the sociopath's virus. Others deny the extremities that researchers say it causes. Regardless of people's stance, the GenoSense bacteria is a very real threat, though the likely hood of it then developing to become the GenoSense disease and actually affecting somebody is reportedly 1 in every 10,000,000,000 (10 trillion) new sentient babies born, with that estimate placing the amount of affected individuals at 10,000.
PHYSICAL INFORMATION
  • Breathes: Type 1
  • Average height of adults: 2µm (micrometers)/single cell
  • Average length of adults: 0.3µm (micrometers)/single cell
  • Skin color: Deep blue
  • Hair color: N/A
  • Distinctions: The bacteria itself is actually extremely common, with it being able to inhabit any human-like gut harboring it in their stomach, though the process of it doing any damage requires it to be injected into a person's blood stream or to have parents who made the foolish mistake of reproducing.
  • Races: N/A

  • Strengths:
Extremely resilient - After successfully infecting a person's brain, there is no known medical procedure or actual way of removing the bacteria.
  • Slow but steady - While the bacteria is exceptionally slow at actually doing anything, it has been proven by various sources that it can enter a hibernation like state where it requires no glucose or oxygen to sustain its existence, though this stops the cell from dividing.
  • Hunger decrease - The life form will naturally feel less hungry.
  • Skincare - The bacteria has, unusually, large energy requirements. Some companies have taken advantage of this to develop products whereby the bacteria can be mixed with a cream and used to removed dead skin cells from a person's face, reducing natural blemishes, blackheads, pimples etc.

[*]Weaknesses:
  • Natural selection - The bacteria's symptoms work against itself. The most likely way to be infected is to have an affected biological parent, but the bacteria is known to make an individual's sex drive plummet.
  • Harmless - Despite the devastating affects it can cause, the bacteria rarely ever meets the conditions it needs to actually develop into the GenoSense disease, and as such most people who harbor the bacteria will never be harmed by it.
  • Antibiotics - The bacteria is exceptionally weak to antibiotics. A single dose can wipe out the entire population within someone's body so long as the bacteria are living within the gut.
  • Slow reproducers - Unusually slow at cell division. Where most bacteria will divide every 20 minutes, the GenoSense bacteria will only divide every hour.

CULTURE
  • Diet: Decaying cells, dead cells, nutrients such as fat, carbohydrates and protein.
  • Communication: N/A (Quorum sensing)
  • Technology level: N/A
  • Religion/Beliefs: N/A
  • General behavior: The GenoSense bacteria functions very similarly to any other regular bacteria, living relatively dormant in the gut and leeching off of its lifeforms energy supply. Every now and again though, the stars align. Whether that be someone's brain being injected with the virus through strange odds or an already affected person then passes on the genes to their offspring. Outside of that, the bacteria is known to be very energy efficient though is exceptionally low at reproducing. People with the disease contract it many years in advance, often it will take up to 20 years for any noticeable symptoms to be found. Symptoms generally begin as regular and painful migraines, though as the bacteria continues to produce it specifically targets the Temporal Cortex and the Frontal Lobe. From here, people could experience anything from severe seizures to simple involuntary spazming of limbs depending on the individual. Though one thing happens to every patient, which is the suppression of dopamine and other chemicals. The targeting of the bacteria also causes a breakdown in a person's moral judgement. While this does not automatically make them turn psychopathic, many will report that the only pleasure they get is from violence, along with seemingly unrelated past times such as sporting activities etc. Also of note, the degeneration from these areas, while not killing them per say, will reduce their activity levels significantly, reducing energy requirements.
  • In late stages of the disease, the semi-random seizures/muscle spasms will have ceased, though the individual's sex drive will be significantly decreased.
HISTORICAL INFORMATION

The exact known origins of the bacteria are unknown, and as to why it developed the way it does, though many theories suggest a possible patient zero who lived in solitude for the majority of their life suffering a brain injury allowing the bacteria to enter the victim's internal bloodstream. While the victim died eventually, they were soon discovered by a research team who attempted to investigate the unusual lifestyle of the lifeform, who unintentionally allowed the bacteria to spread and reproduce. Over time it has been suggested that the bacteria continued to target individuals living in isolation from society as a whole and just having underdeveloped emotional cues and responses. The bacteria, attempting to find a use, evolved to naturally cause degeneration in this area in affected individuals and as such reduce the individual's energy requirements, reducing starvation to some degree.

In modern usage, being infected with this bacteria in its primary form is exceptionally rare, the chances of being infected are less than a tenth of a percentage. Some companies have utilized the bacteria as a face cream to reduce the presence of dead skin cells for clearer skin.

OOC NOTE: No PC can be infected with this bacteria without OOC consent being given.

Hey! A nice submission overall but there's a couple of things I'd like to go over before I can stamp this.

Description: [Provide a short paragraph that describes this species at a glance. More in-depth descriptions can be added in distinctions below.]
If you could add a small description here, that would be great. A lot of your information in the distinctions section should probably be here instead as distinctions describe the physical attributes while the description handles more general things.

While we're on the topic, having almost all sentient humans and near humans infected, even non-harmfully, is a bit extreme for a species to pass through the Codex. That's going to have to be removed or altered.

I'll also ask that any references to rape are removed. While you weren't graphic, it's still a dark subject matter we don't allow in our submissions.

Tag me when the changes are complete!
