02 ◆ GENERAL INFORMATION
Planet Name:
Gan Moradir
Demonym:
Gan Moradiri
Region:
Mid Rim Territories
System Name:
Gan Moradir System
System Features:
The Gan Moradir System is centred upon a stable yellow-orange main-sequence star and contains several predominantly rocky worlds, a broad asteroid belt and a single outer gas giant.
GAN MORADIR
The principal inhabited world and population centre of the system. Gan Moradir occupies the star's habitable zone and is distinguished by an exceptionally dry climate, almost no dependable surface water and six enormous aquifers buried deep beneath the planetary crust. These aquifers are slowly replenished by geological seepage from surrounding water-bearing strata, though their natural rate of recovery is far below the unrestricted consumption demands of the megacities above them.
VEYRAN
A small, irradiated and airless inner world. Limited automated mineral extraction occurs across several commercially useful deposits, although Veyran has never supported a substantial permanent population.
THE MORADIN BELT
A broad asteroid field containing useful metallic and mineral deposits. Prospecting and industrial operations are scattered throughout the belt, though it contains no accessible water reserves on a scale capable of materially supporting Gan Moradir.
ORDAN
A cold, barren rocky world in the outer system. Ordan possesses little atmosphere, only trace volatile deposits and no significant accessible reserves of water ice. A small number of scientific and industrial installations operate there.
CAELUN
A large outer gas giant surrounded by numerous small moons. Fuel-skimming, scientific observation and limited orbital industry take place around Caelun, although neither the planet nor its satellites offer a major commercially viable source of water for Gan Moradir.
ORBITAL INFRASTRUCTURE
Gan Moradir is surrounded by an extensive network of freight terminals, customs facilities, passenger stations, communications infrastructure and defensive installations. Much of the system's heavy interstellar traffic passes through orbital facilities associated with Tressan before cargo is transferred planetside.
SHIPPING LANES
The system maintains heavily travelled approaches connecting Gan Moradir to regional trade routes. Continued access to these routes is strategically important due to the planet's dependence upon offworld water, food and industrial imports.
Location:
Xan sector, grid square Q-15. Exact Chaos Galaxy Map placement pending.
Major Imports:
Water is Gan Moradir's most strategically important import. Although the six great cities were founded above deep subterranean aquifers, extracting water from them is slow and their natural replenishment slower still. Pumping is closely monitored and can be reduced or suspended when an aquifer approaches established safety thresholds, allowing geological seepage to gradually replenish the reserve while imported water compensates for the shortfall.
Major Exports:
Gan Moradir possesses commercially valuable native crystal deposits separate from the offworld corusca-gem operations of Deepstar Holdings.
Unexploited Resources:
No strategically significant unexploited resources are presently known.

04 ◆ LOCATION INFORMATION
Capital City:
Merovar
Planetary Features:
Gan Moradir is centred socially and economically around six colossal vertical megacities, each built above one of the planet's major deep aquifers. The cities lie far apart, their locations determined by access to water rather than by proximity to one another.
Each spreads across a vast metropolitan footprint while rising hundreds of levels into the air. Towering central districts dominate the skyline, with newer construction extending outward and upward in successive layers. Hundreds of millions of people can live within a single urban region, leaving most of Gan Moradir's surface thinly populated.
These cities are complete living environments rather than industrial hives. Homes, schools, hospitals, parks, commercial districts, public institutions, workplaces and entertainment are distributed throughout their vertical structure. Many citizens can spend much of their lives within the same broad section of a city without needing to travel anywhere near the planetary surface.
The older lower levels are not automatically poor or neglected. Many have been rebuilt or renovated repeatedly over centuries, and some contain prestigious historic districts, long-established institutions and architecture that cannot be found in newer parts of the city. Expansion has generally pushed farther outward and higher rather than leaving the oldest districts behind.
Outside the six metropolitan centres, settlement becomes sparse. Smaller communities, industrial sites and private outposts are scattered across the wastes, but few have access to dependable independent water sources. Most rely on supplies transported from the cities and maintain extensive recycling and storage systems to reduce how often those deliveries are needed.
Large harvesting domes are also found throughout the desert surrounding the megacities. These sealed agricultural complexes use reclaimed water and controlled growing conditions to produce dependable staple crops in otherwise unusable terrain.
Their most important crop is Ganwheat, a hardy cereal bred for high yields, nutritional density, efficient water use and long storage life. It has little flavour on its own, having been developed for reliability rather than taste. Most is processed into flour, meal or concentrated food additives, then used in locally produced foods to increase caloric value, add bulk and stretch more expensive imported ingredients.
The domes do not make Gan Moradir self-sufficient. Fresh produce, meat, specialist crops and many other foodstuffs still arrive from offworld. Ganwheat and similar staples instead provide a degree of security when outside supply is interrupted.
Solar collection fields cover large stretches of open desert around the major cities. In some regions, these arrays continue for hundreds or even thousands of kilometres and supply a substantial share of civilian power. Energy is stored and distributed through hardened substations and transmission networks. Reactor systems, along with locally skimmed or imported fuels, provide additional capacity when needed.
Life beyond the cities is more demanding. Communities in the wastes place greater emphasis on self-reliance, careful management of supplies and preparation for periods when outside support may be delayed.
◆ ◆ ◆
THE GREAT URBAN CENTRES OF GAN MORADIR
MEROVAR
CAPITAL ◆ GOVERNMENT ◆ FINANCE ◆ DIPLOMACY
Merovar is the capital and largest city on Gan Moradir, and the centre of the planet's political, financial and diplomatic life.
The Crown Administration, the royal residence and many of Gan Moradir's largest commercial and financial institutions are based there. The city is polished, cosmopolitan and deeply conscious of the influence it holds over planetary affairs.
Its oldest inhabited districts grew around the settlement historically associated with House Varellan, though modern Merovar has long since spread far beyond those early colonial foundations.
Merovari culture tends to prize education, presentation and civic involvement. Outsiders sometimes find its residents self-important, a reputation many Merovari acknowledge with some amusement.
VARDRAN
DEFENCE ◆ SERVICE ◆ STRATEGIC COMMAND
Vardran is Gan Moradir's principal military and defence centre.
The city is home to major academies, strategic command facilities, training institutions, armouries and logistics centres, along with much of the planet's defence industry. Its culture has long been shaped by military service and civic discipline, while House Brelm maintains particularly strong historical ties to Vardran and its martial traditions.
Vardran was also the site of one of Gan Moradir's most serious modern infrastructure crises.
A major rupture formed in one of the city's deep-water distribution trunks, allowing extracted water to escape into the porous strata beneath the city. The problem was not immediately obvious. Automated systems responded to falling pressure by drawing more heavily from the aquifer, making the loss appear at first to be an unexplained surge in demand.
Water continued disappearing underground until monitoring systems detected a widening gap between recorded consumption and the rate of depletion.
By the time engineers isolated the damaged section, the aquifer had fallen below its normal safe operating threshold. Extraction had to be sharply reduced while repairs were carried out, forcing Vardran to rely increasingly on imported water throughout the recovery period.
DEMERIS
INDUSTRY ◆ MANUFACTURING ◆ PRODUCTION
Demeris is the industrial heart of Gan Moradir. Heavy manufacturing, fabrication and industrial processing dominate much of the local economy, supported by extensive construction, consumer production and skilled trades.
Practical expertise carries considerable weight in Demerian culture. Engineers, tradespeople, production specialists and experienced supervisors are generally well regarded, particularly those with long records of proven work.
The city supplies a large share of the materials required for Gan Moradir's continuing urban development and is also one of the planet's main sources of manufactured exports.
ORTHEON
ENGINEERING ◆ INFRASTRUCTURE ◆ DEVELOPMENT
Ortheon is Gan Moradir's leading centre for engineering, architecture and large-scale development.
Many of the specialists who expand, reinforce and modernise the planet's megacities are trained or employed there. Water systems, transit, environmental controls, structural engineering and public utilities are among the city's most prominent fields.
Ortheoni professional culture tends to look forward. Its institutions often treat Gan Moradir as a continuing engineering challenge, and their influence can be seen across the planet in new districts, transit networks and the infrastructure needed to support dense urban life in a harsh environment.
LYRADON
ACADEMIA ◆ MEDICINE ◆ RESEARCH
Lyradon is Gan Moradir's principal academic, scientific and medical centre.
Universities, research institutes, archives, teaching hospitals and specialist medical facilities shape much of the city's professional life. Its institutions draw students, researchers and medical specialists from across Gan Moradir, with a growing number arriving from offworld.
Lyradon is known for a strong culture of intellectual competition, though some of its older institutions can be insular. Several universities and learned societies trace their traditions back centuries and remain influential within their fields.
The city also plays a major cultural role, with prominent museums, galleries, performance venues and historical collections.
TRESSAN
TRADE ◆ FREIGHT ◆ LOGISTICS
Tressan is Gan Moradir's main commercial gateway to the wider galaxy.
Orbital freight, customs, warehousing, shipping contracts and import-export brokerage account for much of the local economy, supported by the distribution networks that move goods onward to the other megacities. Offworld merchants, freight crews, contract workers and temporary residents are a familiar part of daily life, giving Tressan a particularly cosmopolitan population.
Tressani culture is generally more commercially minded and less formal than that of Merovar. A large share of Gan Moradir's imported water, food and raw materials passes through the city's logistical network before being distributed across the planet.

Tressani culture is generally more commercially minded and less formal than that of Merovar. A large share of Gan Moradir's imported water, food and raw materials passes through the city's logistical network before being distributed across the planet.
05 ◆ POPULATION
Native Species:
No known native sapient species.
Immigrated Species:
Population:
Heavy, approximately 2.1 billion permanent residents.
The overwhelming majority of the population resides within the six megacities, each supporting hundreds of millions of inhabitants. Only a small proportion of Gan Moradir's population permanently resides elsewhere on the planetary surface.
Demographics:
Gan Moradir is predominantly Human, reflecting the ancestry of its original colonial population, though centuries of trade and immigration have produced substantial Near-Human and alien communities.
The major cities are generally open to offworld settlement, with Tressan and Merovar possessing the most visibly cosmopolitan populations. Planetary law recognises no formal species-based caste system.
Primary Languages:
Galactic Basic, alongside numerous commercial and immigrant languages.
Culture:
Gan Moradiri society developed around a simple reality: survival on the planet depends on planning.
Water, housing, transport, infrastructure and population growth all require careful management on a world with billions of inhabitants and almost no meaningful surface water. Long-term preparation and competent administration are widely respected as a result. Obvious wastefulness is frowned upon, especially where water is concerned.
Within the megacities, this rarely means harsh personal rationing. Deep aquifers, modern reclamation systems and managed imports allow most citizens to enjoy a high standard of living. Conservation is instead built into daily life and the systems around it. Water is recycled extensively, leaks are taken seriously, and public infrastructure is designed to recover and reuse as much as possible.
Green spaces carry particular cultural weight. Parks, enclosed gardens, arboretums and artificial water features are signs that a city has the resources and infrastructure to maintain them. Most rely heavily on reclaimed water rather than drawing directly from fresh reserves.
Food culture reflects many of the same pressures. Ganwheat provides much of the basic caloric foundation for locally produced food. It is nutritious, efficient to grow and stores exceptionally well, though it has little flavour by itself. Flour, meal and concentrates made from Ganwheat appear throughout everyday cooking, usually combined with more desirable imported ingredients. This helps stretch offworld supplies without making them unnecessary. Few Gan Moradiri would choose plain Ganwheat for its taste, but its reliability has made it an ordinary part of life.
The six cities maintain strong identities of their own. People commonly think of themselves as both Gan Moradiri and Merovari, Vardrani, Demerian, Ortheoni, Lyradoni or Tressani. Rivalries between the cities are common, particularly in sport, education, professional fields and popular culture.
Each city's traditional specialisation also shapes the environment its residents grow up around. Military institutions are a familiar part of life in Vardran, while universities and hospitals are similarly prominent in Lyradon. These differences influence local culture without restricting where people are free to study, work or settle.
Public service is generally held in high regard. Civil administrators, engineers, medical staff, infrastructure workers and others responsible for keeping essential systems functioning tend to enjoy considerable professional respect.
Arts, entertainment and sport are widely available throughout the megacities. Local traditions sit alongside broader galactic culture, with particularly strong Gan Moradiri influences in architecture, design, historical preservation and civic festivals.
Religious practice is varied and largely treated as a private matter. No single faith dominates the planet.

06 ◆ GOVERNMENT & ECONOMY
Government:
Gan Moradir is a centralised hereditary monarchy supported by an extensive professional civil administration.
The planet is governed through the Crown Administration under the authority of the Sovereign Prince. The sovereign holds final legislative and executive power, including the authority to enact or amend law, appoint senior officials and intervene directly in matters of planetary government.
Most day-to-day administration is handled by a large professional civil service. Its responsibilities include water management, healthcare, education, housing, infrastructure, taxation, regulation and trade, alongside the many other functions required to govern the planet. Each of the six megacities also maintains its own municipal administration within the broader framework of planetary law.
Succession follows absolute primogeniture. The eldest eligible child inherits the throne regardless of sex.
Affiliation:
Wealth:
Wealthy.
Gan Moradir has a large, developed economy built around manufacturing, engineering, research, commerce, native crystal exports and extensive trade with the wider galaxy.
The Crown Administration maintains substantial financial reserves to deal with emergencies. Major water shortages, infrastructure failures or disruptions to interstellar supply can require significant spending with little warning.
Public finances are kept separate from the private wealth of House Varellan and Deepstar Holdings.
House Varellan has still used its own fortune throughout Gan Moradir's history to support hospitals, urban renewal, infrastructure and other civic projects. This has been most common where using state reserves was considered unnecessary or where a project could be funded privately without placing additional demands on the planetary treasury.
Stability:
High.
Gan Moradir has stable institutions, a respected civil administration and a generally high level of confidence in the existing political order. Most citizens enjoy a high standard of living, major infrastructure is closely maintained, and the monarchy has historically drawn much of its legitimacy from competent government and material security.
Political disagreement and criticism of government are not unusual. Older families, regional institutions and the six cities all have interests of their own, and disputes over spending or policy can become sharp. At present, however, these tensions do not amount to widespread civil instability.
Outsiders can generally visit, reside and conduct legitimate business on Gan Moradir without unusual restriction.
Freedom & Oppression:
Gan Moradir is an absolute monarchy. Final political authority rests with the Sovereign Prince rather than an elected planetary legislature, and the Crown retains extensive legal powers.
In ordinary life, citizens enjoy broad personal, social and commercial freedom. They may own property and businesses, move between cities, travel offworld, pursue education or employment, practise religion and organise their private lives with little routine interference from the Crown.
Most government is carried out through established law, civil institutions and professional administration. Direct royal involvement in the affairs of ordinary citizens is uncommon.
The main political limitation is that sovereignty ultimately belongs to the Crown. The monarch does not depend on electoral approval to remain in office and may intervene directly in government when considered necessary.
For much of Gan Moradir's history, public acceptance of this arrangement has depended heavily on results. Reliable infrastructure, material stability and effective administration have sustained support for the monarchy across generations. That legitimacy is closely tied to the Crown's continued ability to deliver them.

07 ◆ MILITARY & TECHNOLOGY
Military:
Gan Moradir maintains a professional planetary defence force charged with protecting the six megacities, orbital approaches and the infrastructure needed to sustain the population.
Vardran is the institutional centre of planetary defence. Strategic command facilities, military academies, training grounds and logistical centres are concentrated there, along with a substantial share of Gan Moradir's defence industry.
The wider defence network is spread across the planet and surrounding space. Orbital sensors, patrol forces and defensive platforms monitor the main approaches, while every major city maintains its own garrison and local defensive systems. Command and support functions are distributed so that the loss of one installation does not cripple the entire network.
Infrastructure receives particular attention where its failure could endanger large civilian populations. Water extraction and distribution, power generation, major solar substations, orbital freight facilities, communications and important transit routes are all treated as strategic assets.
Civil defence is similarly well developed. Emergency shelters, evacuation plans, reserve supplies and redundant utility systems are built into the six cities.
Gan Moradir is not a fortress world, and civilian life is not heavily militarised. Its defence planning is focused on keeping the planet functioning and protecting its population through attack, blockade or periods of wider galactic instability.
Technology:
Gan Moradir operates at Galactic Standard overall, with particular expertise in water reclamation, environmental control, civil engineering, high-density urban infrastructure, solar power and large-scale resource distribution.
Its water recycling systems are highly mature after centuries of continuous development. Water moving through the cities is treated and reused repeatedly, reducing the amount that must be replaced from aquifers or imported supplies.
The scale of the megacities also requires extensive automated monitoring. Utility networks, structural systems, environmental controls and transit infrastructure are tracked continuously, allowing maintenance crews to identify problems before they become serious.
Solar power supplies a substantial share of routine civilian demand. Vast collector fields spread across the desert near the major cities, feeding high-capacity storage and distributed urban grids. Reactor networks provide steady supplementary generation, while fuel skimmed from Caelun and imported energy resources support heavy industry, orbital infrastructure and strategic reserves.
The energy network is intentionally diversified. Solar arrays, reactors, storage systems and fuel supplies are spread across separate facilities, reducing the risk that damage to one part of the system will compromise an entire city.

08 ◆ HISTORICAL INFORMATION
Gan Moradir was settled as a colony on a world that proved far less hospitable than its first settlers had expected. The atmosphere was breathable and the planet held useful mineral wealth, but dependable surface water was effectively absent.
Exploration eventually uncovered six enormous aquifers deep beneath the planetary crust. Permanent settlement became possible around them, and six major population centres formed over the largest known reserves. Even then, water remained difficult to extract. The aquifers were vast, but geological replenishment was slow, and unrestricted growth could easily outpace it.
Among the early colonists were the families later known as Varellan and Brelm. Neither was noble at the time.
The Varellans settled near one of the major water sources and became involved in trade, distribution and civic organisation. The Brelms took a different path after an early disagreement between the families, refusing permanent residence in the Varellan-associated settlement and remaining more closely tied to communities in the wastes.
That choice shaped the family for generations. Brelm descendants developed a strong culture of self-reliance and retained a degree of suspicion toward the increasingly organised urban settlements. Tensions between the two families persisted as Gan Moradir expanded.
During the Galactic Civil War, the planet fell under Imperial occupation. Members of House Brelm became prominent in armed resistance and the defence of local communities. The Varellans contributed through their expanding commercial networks, moving food, water, shelter supplies and other necessities where they were needed.
After the Battle of Endor, New Republic forces removed the Imperial presence before later withdrawing. Pirate groups quickly exploited the resulting vacuum. Food shipments were seized, fighting damaged water infrastructure, and several extraction wells became unusable. Communities already dependent on carefully managed subterranean reserves were pushed into severe shortages. A Xan colonist named Geeska Dotalo eventually travelled to Chandrila to seek New Republic assistance.
The crisis reinforced lessons that would recur throughout Gan Moradiri history: local reserves mattered, critical systems needed redundancy, and institutions could not assume outside help would arrive when required.
Both the Brelms and Varellans earned lasting reputations from this period, though in very different ways.
As the settlements grew, the Varellans became more closely associated with infrastructure, stability and material development. Members of the family repeatedly entered civic leadership and administrative roles through the political systems of the time.
Their growing private wealth gave them even greater influence over that development.
An ancestral investment in corusca gem diving eventually grew into Deepstar Holdings. The profits placed resources at House Varellan's disposal far beyond what local taxation could provide, and successive generations invested heavily in the planet.
Water infrastructure expanded. Hospitals and public institutions appeared across the growing settlements. New districts rose around and above older ones, while transit and utility networks were extended to support increasingly dense populations.
Repeated success in civic leadership gradually made the Varellans politically dominant. Authority accumulated around the family over generations, first through elected and appointed office and later through hereditary rule. From that process emerged the monarchy and Crown Administration of the modern era.
Gan Moradir's environment had a strong influence on the political culture that developed alongside it. Supporting large populations required long-term planning and institutions capable of maintaining systems whose failure could threaten millions. Government came to be judged heavily on whether it could keep those systems working.
The six cities continued to expand as the population increased, each developing a character of its own. Merovar became the centre of government, finance and diplomacy. Vardran grew around defence and military service. Demeris became the industrial centre, Ortheon a focus for engineering and infrastructure, Lyradon for medicine and academia, and Tressan the main commercial gateway to the wider galaxy.
Periods of isolation encouraged the same preference for reserve capacity and redundancy. Harvesting domes spread through the wastes, with Ganwheat becoming the principal locally produced staple. Solar collection fields expanded around the cities and reduced reliance on imported energy. When reliable interstellar trade returned, Gan Moradir chose to strengthen its import networks rather than pursue complete self-sufficiency.
Water, however, remained the planet's defining constraint.
Modern Gan Moradir supplements its aquifers with extensive offworld water contracts. When a reserve reaches its established safety limit, extraction can be reduced or suspended while imported supplies support the affected city and natural seepage slowly restores the aquifer.
The importance of that system became particularly clear during the reign of Sovereign Prince Olasen Varellan.
A major rupture developed in Vardran's underground water-distribution network, allowing extracted water to drain into porous dry strata beneath the city. Automated systems initially responded to the falling pressure by increasing extraction from the aquifer, feeding additional water into the breach and making the problem harder to identify.
The scale of the failure became apparent only when monitoring showed the aquifer declining far faster than recorded consumption could explain. Engineers eventually traced the discrepancy to the damaged trunk and isolated the section, but by then the reserve had fallen well below its normal operating margin.
Extraction was sharply reduced to protect the aquifer from further depletion. For an extended period, Vardran could no longer meet ordinary demand from its own supply.
Olasen chose not to draw heavily on another city's reserve. Instead, he used House Varellan's private fortune to purchase enormous quantities of water from offworld. Shipments were sent to Vardran in sufficient volume to sustain the city and begin restoring the depleted aquifer while repairs continued and natural replenishment resumed.
No repayment or political concession was demanded in return.
For House Brelm, the source of the assistance mattered. The water had not been purchased from the planetary treasury, nor had Olasen simply redirected public funds toward Vardran. House Varellan had chosen to spend its own wealth restoring the long-term water security of a city and family that had distrusted it for generations.
The gesture did not erase that history, but it softened Brelm hostility and helped establish closer relations in the years that followed.
Olasen's later death placed the throne in the hands of his eldest child, Arcelon Varellan, considerably earlier than expected.
Arcelon inherited a prosperous and functioning state. The civil service remained capable, financial reserves were healthy and the monarchy still enjoyed broad public respect. His early reign has focused largely on maintaining those strengths while addressing areas that had been neglected or left vulnerable.
Lower-city renewal has accelerated. Additional redundancy has been added to critical water infrastructure, and Gan Moradir has continued broadening the trade relationships that support much of its material security.
Modern Gan Moradir is wealthy, technologically sophisticated and home to more than two billion people, most of them concentrated within six immense cities.
Beyond those cities, much of the planet remains dry, thinly populated and difficult to inhabit.
That divide has shaped Gan Moradir since its earliest settlements and still influences how its people build, govern and prepare for the future.
