Galactic Republic Weekly News

You stay classy Galactic Republic.

I know I usually end with those words but they seem particularly relevant to open with today. For news is emerging that the GrandMaster of the Jedi Order has been captured by the One Sith during the current invasion on Manaan.

Details are sketchy but all of the available witnesses say [member="Kiskla Grayson"] was alive but unconscious when she was bundled into a ship before leaving the planet. And there are unconfirmed reports of fatalities and other abductions and we’ll bring those to you as soon as we can.

Our thoughts are with those that risked their lives for the Galactic Republic. And take comfort in the knowledge that only the weak turn to the Dark-side.

In associated news, it has been confirmed that the much talked about change of capital could well be finalised by the time you read this report. We can bring you more next week.

And I’d like to end with the following. A well respected RP judge posted something in one of the OOC Invasion threads and his words struck a chord:

There are two stories at work here, as there have always been. One story is, “We're better than you and therefore we will win.” The other is, “I don't care if I get karked up so long as the story is good.” Until the latter becomes the former, we will continue to be outgunned.

In an ideal world, we’d win and tell a great story. So the open question is this: Who wants to win at all costs and who’d rather stay classy?

A: I think Sarge was addressing a very specific mind-set that was verbalized in that very specific thread topic. I don't believe he was speaking broadly or in an all-encompassing manner. I am very familiar with the craftshop mindset of win-at-all-costs and escalate until your opponent rage-quits. I doubt very much that anybody on this forum would support such a silly mindset either. So, I think Sarge just meant: that if you don't risk something, you can never gain something. Especially during an Invasion.

Just my perspective. I'm sure he can speak for himself. However, I very much believe that any writer can enjoy being as ridiculous as they want, (whilst still not godmoding/flaming/powergaming,) and remain classy too. :D :p

this has been my first forum rp, and win or loss it dose not bother me I have enjoyed every moment.
everyone so far have been supportive and the co-operation has been amazing. I thank everyone whom I have interacted in this event, and I'm eager to see how this ends leading onto the next story.

so far I've been very impressed and I think I definitely made the right choice in fraction.

I don't want to speak on anyone's behalf but I think we all care about the story. There are just moments when we get too much into it, take things too seriously, and lose ourselves in the process. We lose sight of how important the means are in favor of the end goal of winning (also a Jedi tenet :p).

So with that being said, we're all wont to err. We shouldn't victimize those who lose sight. They could easily be us, and in fact, it probably has been at one point or another. I can speak for myself on that account at least.

I'd also like to take a page from Sanya's book and thank everyone who has participated in threads with me thus far (and put up with my stupidity at times).

Thank you for the role-play!

I've always been the type to think that losing a planet should bolster activity and strike a chord for the faction that lost it, but often times people get so bogged down in the technicalities of who did what and who should have won that this never happens. People are just too concerned with winning everything rather than writing a great story and having profound experiences.

If we're giving examples, I can tell that Kiskla Grayson's writer knows exactly what this means, considering her character was allowed to be abducted.
